The U.S. Slalom Skateboarding Federation and the DC Outlaw Slalom Series presents:
The 4th Gathering: When fun is outlawed only outlaws will have fun.
May 1 & 2, 2004 Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA
“The 4th Gathering” is…
1. A meeting of serious-minded slalom racing skateboarders, beginners and veterans alike, with the common purpose of doing a lot of riding, fostering community within the sport and providing a forum for the presentation, open discussion and consideration of ideas that may be relevant to its’ future form and direction.
2. A two-day event designed to allow each participant an opportunity to experience a variety of race types and racing situations.
3. A weekend event secondarily designed to allow the attendees to compete with each other, with nothing on the line other than bragging rights. “The 4th Gathering” should foster both a strong sense of camaraderie and a strong impetus for further competition amongst the slalom racing community.
4. A weekend event held at a semi-private, controlled-access venue, including rider’s meetings, networking and plenty of slalom riding.
5. An early season opportunity for the slalom community to come together, meet each other face-to-face, see old friends, new friends and even meet each other’s families, in a calm, fun, and relaxed atmosphere.
6. About cooperation.
7. About the future.
8. About FUN!!
“The 4th Gathering” is not…
1. Advertised or open to the general viewing public.
2. About prizes, money, product or otherwise.

Where: Seneca Creek State Park Pheasant Run Area/Cardinal Area Clopper Road Gaithersburg, MD
IMPORTANT! There is a $2 per person per day fee to enter Seneca Creek State Park. Please be prepared to remit this amount to park authorities at the park entrance. Your cooperation is appreciated and you have our assurance that this park entry fee is the only fee you will have to pay to attend The 4th Gathering. To keep our venue “rider-safe”, vehicular entry to the Cardinal Area/Pheasant Run Area will be restricted and controlled at the single entrance/exit. Again, your patience and cooperation are appreciated.Additional facilities and recreational activities in the park include barbecue grills, a playground and lavatory facilities, reserved in our area; as well as wildlife and mountain bike paths, a nature center, an 18-hole disc (“frisbee”) golf course, and some very nice hills to cruise. Skateboarding IS permitted in the park, beyond the bounds of our area, within reason and with all due respect given to the Park Rangers, who will have “the last word”.

Weather: According to the Weather Channel’s website, the average daily high temperature for this period is 70 degrees f. Springtime weather in the Mid-Atlantic region is notoriously difficult to predict. The old adage, “If you don’t like the weather, wait a few minutes; it’ll change,” definitely applies. Please plan to attend The Gathering, rain or shine. Although there will be NO formal racing in the case of rain or wet pavement, The Gathering is, first and foremost, about unifying the creative input and organizational efforts of as many slalom supporters as possible. While this can be accomplished, even if we do no skating at all, you can rest assured every effort will be made to find indoor alternatives, in the case of bad weather.
