The Bear Race will require the use of any FULL FACE helmet. The other races require the use of a helmet.

On Saturday the 27th we will hold the 5th annual Race at the Bear, the worlds largest banked slalom, course to be set by TimeShip Racing. To qualify you must drop in from the top....easy right? Then off to hit some of the spots we all love to ride with endless shuttles up the ditches. Being Memorial Day weekend, we also have the option of having an extra day if we need to roll one of the races over due to unforseen circumstances.

Saturday Night of the 27th we will hold a Skate Park Race at the Los Altos Skate Park at 7:00 pm.

On Sunday the 28th TimeShip will hold an 8.3 mile Cross Town Race. Anyone trying for the title of US National Skateboard Racing Champion will want to attend this one!

The rest of the weekend will be spent riding the endless terrain we all enjoy with shuttle vans, friends and an awards party at Kelleys Brew Pub. There will also be a Combined Award $$$ presented by TimeShip Racing for the racer that finishes the best in all events.

These hotels are reasonably priced, and right next to eachother. They are also near food and a five minute walk to the Los Altos Skatepark.

"Arryo del Oso" or "Bear Canyon" just call it the "Bear". Breakfast around the corner at Vics Daily Diner, hot chile!! Riders meeting at 9am, practice til 9:30am, racing starts at 9:31am.

Overall Results: The 5th Annual Bear Race Weekend went off without a hitch. Good weather, no injuries and a lot of big smiles. TimeShip would like to thank our title sponsor DREGS for kicking down $2000 in prize money and tons of product. This allowed TSR to keep the entry fee to a mere $50 for all 3 events, and still send everyone home with an event shirt, noodle legs from the never ending shuttle van and lot’s of product. Thanks to Gravity, Pressure Drop Long Boards, S-One, The Skateboard Mag, Red Bull, Flood Kontrol and South Shore Distribution. Big thanks to K-Lee for all the tabulations and results posters and to Steve and Martha for the timing at the Bear.

The first timers to Abq were all smiles, and the most stoked award is a tie between Sean O’Brien of Pressure Drop and Floyd Reid. Both were in total amazement that the ditches just go on and on and on, then back in the shuttle for even more. I’m sure they’ll be back!

The 3 races were each very different from each other and this is why the Overall winner deserves major props for his talent in the Banked Slalom, Skate Park Race and Cross Town Race. The US National Race Title is now underway!
Submit your best race finishes to K-Lee or TSR to be eligible for the US National Race Title and $2000.

Chris Miller and Mark Jeangerard brought our Bear start ramp to life to make a big drop even bigger. Thanks! When I was asked why have a giant start ramp at an already ridiculously giant drop in, and why I was prompted to approach it THIS WAY, my answer was………the Danny Way. Go BIGGER! John O’Shei would have approved. Faster is what racing is all about. Once again the Florida boys showed up, but a couple of previous champions did not. The one that did won $1000 cash. The Bear results were as follows:

Rob Palmer......BLR/Sector9.....17.17....$1000

The Bear race was followed by a Bear Style Contest which included all kinds of style from cross stepping and one footed jumps to switch to long drawn out slides, berts and boneless ones. The winner was Chuck Dinkins for his hat tipping style and long flowing runs. He took home $100, a pair of the new TimeShip Slider gloves and a fully dehydrated frog for his trophy case. 2nd place was Kelley Lynn, 3rd place was Bennett Harada.

The Skate Park Race was set in the Baby’s Arm which is all tranny and speed. No street course this time! 9 cones, tail drop start and a roll out finish with wicked fast bowl carves through all three bowls. EP showed everyone up going so fast that on his first run he ollied out at the finish and flew OVER the finish beam, not clocking a time! No worries, he more than made it up on his next run.

Sunday morning the Cross Town Race saw a much smaller group of racers turn out, probably because this event requires work, sweat and some fitness level. The defending champ (and record holder) was determined to keep his title and to cement the Overall for the weekend and pocket $500 for his efforts. 8.3 miles with the first half a full on DH in a smooth striped bike lane with drafting, foot braking and bright orange vests for running red lights and stop signs. The second half of the race is push, pump, tuck and push some more. The only up hills are right at the very end and are pretty tame. The finish requires racers to step onto the grass at UNM, some were too dizzy to find their way from the curb across the sidewalk to the grass. We cheered until they did.

Ryan Ricker..........25.22
Cody Raver...........27.02
Joe Lehm.............28.26
James West Jr........28.30
Chris Miller.........29.22
K-Lee................30.45
Paul Domski..........31.58

The Overall Racer for the weekend was determined by combining all 3 finishes and the winner won a nice hand made hardwood complete provided by Pressure Drop Long boards, an engraved trophy and $500.

Ryan Ricker.........TSR.......92 points....$500
Joe Lehm............TSR.......72 points
Chris Miller...................68 points
James West Jr..................64 points
K-Lee..........................56 points
Paul Domski....................44 points

The awards party at Kellys Brew Pub featured good food, lots of beer, tons of prizes all the way down to last place, and an 8 minute video that James West Jr. somehow put together in between all that racing! What a weekend! Thanks to everyone for coming out and we’ll race you again soon!

Next up, the North American Speedboarding Championships at Maryhill June 24th and 25th.
