Pro and Open Class

Qualification for the 2002 World Championships for Pro
and Open Classes will be as follows:

Group A: 16 racers invited based on points earned in the FCR Series. Group A will be seeded 1 – 16 for the World Championship races, based on their FCR points. Group A will not race on Friday.

Group B: 16 racers invited based on points earned in the FCR Series. Group B will be seeded 1 - 16 in the Friday Qualifier, on Friday, Oct. 11, based on their FCR points.

Group C: 16 qualifiers. Group C: There will be 16 places available in the Friday Qualifier for racers who can qualify on Friday, Oct. 11. Anyone not seeded is invited to try to qualify for the 16 places available.

Qualifying Format

Group C qualifying: On Friday October 11th Group C will be determined by a two run qualification round. Each qualifier will be given two runs and the fastest time, including any cone penalties, for one run will be used to determine qualification. Cone penalty and DQ penalty will be established and announced at the racers meeting. The sixteen riders who qualify will be seeded 17-32 in the Friday Qualifier. They will be seeded in order from fastest to slowest. Women & Boys Open Classes will have at least four places available for qualifiers in each of their 8-racer Friday Qualifiers.

Friday Qualifier: On Friday October 11th the sixteen racers in Group B will race against the sixteen racers in Group C. The sixteen racers from Group B will be seeded into the 32 racer bracket in positions 1 – 16 based on their points earned in the FCR Series. The sixteen racers from Group C will be seeded into the bracket in positions 17 – 32 based on their qualifying times, fastest qualifier is #17, next fastest is #18 and so on.

The 32 racers in the Friday Qualifier will race one elimination round, comprised of two races, as per the FCR Series 32 racer bracket, #1 v #32, 2 v 31, etc. The sixteen winners from this round will be seeded
17 – 32 for the World Championship slalom racing on the weekend. Additionally four racers will be named as alternates for the World Championships. This will be based on the four fastest times from the “round of 32” losers. Alternates will practice on the weekend and act as replacements for any racer who does not start in the round of 32 on each day. A seeded racer who does not enter the Saturday race may choose to enter the Sunday race in that racer’s original seeded position. Women and Boys Open Class will each race an eight-racer qualifier on Friday, October 11. Three to four racers will be seeded and four to five places are open for qualifying in each Class. The four winners from the round of eight will advance to the weekend racing. There will be two alternates chosen also.

World Championship Races:

On Saturday October 12th the 16 winners from the Friday Qualifier will be seeded (17 – 32) against the racers from Group A (1 – 16). . Cone penalty and DQ penalty will be established and announced at the racers meeting. These racers will race in a 32-racer bracket, it is planned to be a GS. In each round two racers will race “head to head” on two parallel courses. They will race twice, alternating courses. FCR Series rules will govern the races. The racer with the fastest total time from the two races in each “head to head” round will advance to the next round. There will be rounds of 32, 16, 8, 4, finals (1 v 2) and consolation (3 v 4). The winner of this race will earn the title of World GS Skateboarding Champion.
Women & Boys Open Class will race a four-racer bracket to determine the World Championship for each Class.

On Sunday October 13th the same 32 racers from Saturday will be seeded in the same order and will race another race in the same manner as on Saturday. The winner of this race will earn the title of World Slalom Skateboarding Champion. Women & Boys Open Class will race a four-racer bracket to determine the World Championship for each Class.

Points will be earned for each race based on the FCR Series Point System.
The racer who earns the most points from the two World Championship Races will earn the title of World Combined Slalom Skateboarding Champion.

The racer with the most points for the entire FCR Series including the World Championship Races will be the FCR Series Champion as well as the United States Champion.
