 Here's a pic of the first non clay wheeled board I ever got ...... rubber wheels ... they were slow but it was before urethane hit and were tons better on our local roads than clay. If only I had kept it !

Dual hardness wheels

 Here is just one example of dual hardness wheels, hard on the inside for speed, soft outers for traction. None of them lasted long which probably said something. The set i had were slow and stuck when you carved so much it was weird on the control front .. as far as I remember anyway.

We put the mag ribbon in the spark thing on the tail, never had the truck gimmick, solid metal on coping is the best reward ! I remember a set up in a mag where something was put on the coping and a flint like thing attatched to the truck would 'set' it off ... no idea how it worked though.

If anyone has a Mk1 skuda in any condition I want it for a keepsake and will pay you handsomely for it !!!!!!
Can't remember if it was G&S or not but there was a speed spark thing we had, you fixed it on the tail and it was like a flint type affair which sparked when you did tail wheelies. I seem to remember a similar thing with something that fitted on trucks and sparked when you hit the coping with a grind. Anyway we found that magnesium ribbon 'borrowed' from the science lab at school worked real well with the speed spark thing ...

Does anyone of you ol' timers remember a product called "speed sparks", from
Gordon & Smith. I saw an add in an old Skateboarder magazine and i new i had to
have em. But since there not manufactured anymore, could anyone
please help me out so that i could make one of my own. What were they made of? And did they work?

Rich describes my board! It is made out of some kind of fiberglass. It`s really heavy and it got a metal inlay strip on the bottom.

hey nice picture - that was about the last skuda model they did. the first ones were flat, a fibreglasss kind of stuff put over a metal inlay strip (kinda like the jay adams z-flex) then they added a weak kicktail, the next model was a single kick plastic affair that then grew a double kick and then they went with the wooden affair. had them all at one time and would love to have one of the original decks again for old time sakes.

Here is a scan of an old magazine page showing the range of Road Rider Wheels and Sims wheels at the time - 1977.
The Gecko No. 3 in the bottom right of the page was the first wheel I ever skated on. They were crap, very slow, and actually started to crumble after a while. They came on my first board which was a yellow Pacer fibreglass. I think they were only sold in Europe.

Dear webmaster,
In Switzerland, ACS 651 still are sold. I've got a product review on my homepage(http://beam.to/lonecore). I found out that a new manufactor is making them. Because slalom skating is getting more popular in the USA, I think that they will be sold there in a few years.
I still use them, because there aren't any better slalom trucks exept Seismics.
I'll make some pictures later and post them.

I found the original Skuda board on a garage-sale! I`ts really small (smaller than the newschool boards), its made out of some kind of plastic and it is totaly flat! I can`t find any trucks that fits! e-mail me if you have any idea of what kind of trucks that will fit!

I just bought two unused decks in a skateboardshop here in Sweden one is called Duraflex and looks like an old surfboard with a very small kick.
I have no idea how old this deck is and I wonder if you guys know. It is made of solid wood with intarsiapattern on the top. It is really beatiful,
I cant imagine who would want to put grip tape on top of it. What should I do? Ride it or hang it on the wall?
The other one, a G&S Stacy Peralta II, is never used either.
The shop got hold of a lot of old gear, did you ever get the Elandecks in USA or were they only available here?
They came with see-through epoxy grip in various designs.
Elan got famous for its downhill ski equipment in the late 70s

Hey Mario, I am in a mad search for CASTER boards, I use to ride them in the 70's & 80's, & my pro hero for them was Chris Strople. So you may be referreing to CASTER boards, but if you do find one, let me know.....For every one else, take a look at the Buy-Sell-Trade, I have a list of boards I would like to find, under the heading of "Good ol pool boards"...thanx...
Trackers were always the best in my own little mind, I broke quite a few Indy's back in the days, but Tracker always held strong.

I just started making a longboard out of poplar because I remember a very nice board from the late 70's that was made out of poplar. Does anybody remember that one. I think it may have been a "Casper" or perhaps that was the model, in any case it was two plys of poplar with a very thin ply of darker wood (mahogany?) in the middle. Anybody that knows anything about these boards please write me.
As for half-tracks, they were my first truck and I still have them. The old ones had kingpins that were fixed in the aluminum baseplate (non-removable). The pivot was also very narrow compared to some later Trackers which made them good for 360s and freestyle, I guess. I bought them because I was small and my board was narrow. I eventually got mid-tracks which were much better. Full-tracks were ok but you ground the kingpins too easily.

I just took my old G&S Stacy Peralta (31.5") with Tracker Half-tracks and Gyros for a ride. I layed out a couple of berts, walked the dog, and kick flipped it. It was so damn fun I've taken it off the chopping block.

D-Beam trucks are the squirrelyist things ever made!
They have NO pivot bushing at all,just an axle bent over on top of a pin. NO adjustments. I have a set of Black ones and they also came in white,and from what I remember the white ones were harder plastic and a little easier to ride,but not much.

I am looking for some 1st generation Kryptonics, any colour, any size. Unused would be nice. I have stuff to trade if required.
I have put a picture in the Pics Preview section I scanned from a 1977 UK skateboard magazine "Skateboard! - Europe's Hottest Skateboard Magazine" showing a wheels page that I drooled over as a kid. Kryptonics are shown at the top, they have raised letters and say "Kryptonics Wheels" rather than just Kryptonics as the later models did.
And as for the Bones - well if you had a set of them when I was a kid, you were a God, or at least very popular.
