Per phone call to the Salem Parks and Rec this morning 7-15-2021, there is no conflicting event scheduled on the SBD Hill in Bush Park so I will be there with 2 courses and cones-a-plenty! Bring a park deck just in case of some unforseen inability to use the hill and we'll go to a skatepark(but very unlikely).
See You There!!! -The Management.

Hey Gilmour - Yeah, that's reminiscent of me and my burlap grain sack full of tin cans in the same era. Anytime either of my parents or family would go into town for anything, I'd grab my slalom setup, burlap grain sack bag 'o cans, motorcycle helmet "borrowed" from my friend's older brother, heavy leather work gloves, volleyball knee and elbow pads all kept in a stack in the garage for immediate short-notice deployments. It paid off, I won my first slalom race at a Parks-n-Rec skateboard contest and smoked all the guy older than me who had "real" slalom equipment. Those were the days!

In the summer of 1975, I was 12, before I owned real slalom cones we used Baskin and Robbins pint ice cream cups doubled up. And would slalom on 57th street and I think Lexington down a slight grade with a sign that read “ Saving to travel to the olympics for slalom, looking for sponsorship ‘ and brokers would toss cash into a box . We figured it wouldn’t be long.
https://www.newtimes.co.rw/sports/road-paris-2024-games-starts-now-vows-skating-federation
Well it took a bit longer after July in 2024 I’d be racing at 61 years of age

Yet, somehow, no reference to CMC, nor Adam exists in this 'wonderland'? I know Karl is in Germany, Mig is stuck shoveling snow in Quebec, and I am waxing my Sno-Moto for the freshies left unused by Plankers, Boarders & fools. So, where did this Lead? I ask as a plead? Are we then Lost, and as such, about to be Tossed? Best ya'll gather about, and plan a redoubt.
Hope YOUR Christmas is better than mine (RAIN, high winds, kids stuck in Alabama, and watching the 30" of Powder desolve into Slush & mud. God, I do Do Hate the GOP 'PLAN' of 'early retirement'. It's too close to a COFFIN. "PSR"

Tway's, The Night Before Xmas

Twas the night before christmas, when all through the Farm Not a Downhillbilly was stirring, not even Marion Karr; The bushings were placed in the Radikals with care, In hopes that McCree soon would be there;
The skaters were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of Fat Boy danced in their heads; And Kenny in his spandex, and I with my rap, Had enough of this Abec 11 Manufacturer's crap?
When up on the start ramp there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the curb to see what was the matter. Away to the hill I flew like a flash, Tore my achilles tendon and threw up from cheap hash.
The moon on the breast of the New England snow Gave the lustre of mid-day to bald heads below, When, what to my wondering eyes was I facing, But Hackett, oLsOn, and Black Leather Racing,
And a little old rider, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be Jack Smith. More rapid than eagles his courses they set, And he hooted, and hollered, and called them by name;
"Now, Gilmour! now, Tucker! now, Maysey and Joe! On, ICK STICK! on AXE! on, WeFUNK and ROE! To the top of the hill! to the top of the road! Now dash away! dash away! dash away Goad!"
As dry leaves that before the wild Mollica fly, When they meet with an obstacle, criddle to the sky, So up to the hill-top the racers they flew, With the sleigh full of Indys, and G.O.G.'s too.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of each little hoof. As I drew in my hand, and was turning around, Down the chimney Arab came with a bound.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, And replaced all the bushings; then called me a jerk, And laying his finger inside of his nose, And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, ere he rode out of sight, "YOUR TRUCKS SUCK!"

I think there's potential in this! I also liked Marc Dean's idea of combining both 'cone' events with DH/Butt-board-Luge, but, that may have to wait until Covid isn't 'The Issue'. In Boarder-Cross, on Snowboard, we also ran 'Citizen Slingshot' races, the most famous of such is/was Mt. Baker's Banked Slalom. I think That Venue (with, or w-out Banks) is worth looking at! The 'interaction' contact-point is, pretty much, the Start-Ramp, but, then, the filing-order into, & out-of such. I'm in VERMONT, the SAFEST STATE to be in. Why are we 'Safe'? No Bull, we wear masks, we keep a distance, we do Not Believe t-rump, at all. ZERO deaths for 2 months. The GOP can 'pretend' this is an anomaly, but it's REAL, and we're about 'this close' to becoming a new bit of Canada. Anyhow, YES, I think races can be held safely, using Correct (pre-T-rump!) CDC or Canadian Guidelines. Push the Culture Fore, and let's see?!

Yes, I agree. If this Covid-19 situation continues like this through next summer, I hope to put my annual slalom BBQ on but without the BBQ and BYOL instead of BBQ. Possibly make the event into an actual "race" instead of the usual non-race BBQ Slalom-All-Day-Session. Uggghhhh I'm tired of "not doing things", like slalom get-togethers.

The perfect compact Covid-19 sport

With people staying at least a cone or two apart while walking up the hill, slalom without using ramps is the near perfect Covid Sport. All cones are sprayed with disinfectant prior to set up. A hand sanitizer at the bottom of the hill or a small songue with it on your hit and all cones can be reset cleanly. Or you could have cone marshalls. In a dual slalom the courses are always at least 6 feet apart of not 12 feet apart.
Cycling with drafting is not as safe, nor is downhill, certainly street skating does not encourage social distancing. Only slalom has regular markers to maintain easily verified safe distances.
With the reduced street traffic iits is almost ideal.

Micheal Dong!! OMG, I wanna let ya know, I still actively ride YOUR (as in Your, Personal, Game-winning board!) ROE S-Camber (Which, btw, Schwippert also used in Europe to win 'JR. World Champ' status) as my my 'go-to' Slalom practice board. It still has (drumroll...) your 50 grit Belt-Sander grip-tape on it!! I run a Radikal on the rear, and a Tracker RTS Monkey-Wrench (thanks, Eric W.!) up front, and either worn Avalons or Tunnel Rock STR's. It features a 'soft' plastic foot-stop (from a Burton baseplate toe-extension), and a lil' extra heel lift at the rear via Khiro/Richy's 'foam-wedge' sticky add-ons (tucked Under the belt-sander stuff). So, it's had 3 'World' medalists own/ride it, so far. Gareth put one outa-the-park with these, an Awesome Board to Romp upon! Now that Jack closed the Museum, I'm glad I kept it and ride it! It's WORTHY! All the best, Eric B.

There you have, almost straight from the director's mouth.
