!!! 2017 Salem Slalom Action Alert !!!
On 3/18/2017 Slalom Management Associates wrote in from (50.206.nnn.nnn)

WEST COAST SLALOM CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!

Bradley Lamont Jackmann is talking serious talk (he even talked to Chewning and Salem Parks and seems to have already arranged for and paid for insurance, and talked to whoever else, etc).

The BBQ event is likely to be moved a bunch earlier or later since Brad L.J. would like to do his thingy in July and preferably July 16th-ish. This is not a "set" thing yet.

More to come, more details will be posted on the forum traditionally labelled as "SLALOM".

Thanks - The Management.

A half-hearted attempt at making slalom interesting for the DH scene. It also gives us an opportunity to promote all-weather skateboarding.

I'm now in New Hampshire, used to be across the river in Vermont.Rain, yup, got that!
I know the northwest fairly well, because my parents moved from Chewelah Wa. to Ascutney Vt. when I was 5, but we'd get back West every 2 years or so to see the relatives. And, I also did a stint or two coaching at Mt. Hood (one year getting almost 300 days of snowboarding in!). I rode my Val Surf at Maryhlll in '78 with my dad following along in the rental staionwagon, first time I got clocked by a car speedometer; 35 MPH, and my dad was a tad worried (actually was slower than Reading Vt. hills I rode daily).

New old decks!!!
On 7/9/2014 Pauliwog wrote in from (50.206.nnn.nnn)

Hey PSR, remind me, where do live? I forgot. No problemo, you indeed have not rained on any parade here.

One bit of good fortune, my Nephew is moving to a boat, getting rid of everything he doesn't need to backpack the Appalachian Trail and/or won't fit on a boat so that means, I got his Pauliwog deck with triaxial fiberglass and made for his weight(more than me) which means it's stiffer than what I've been riding and I LOVE it!! It's got me sorta thinking about getting competitive again and actually, well, you know, "racing" slalom instead of just "BBQ-ing". It will the be the biggest comeback the slalom world has ever seen. OK, not really, that was a bit overboard I guess. I'm just stoked.

Gotta go - Paul

Paul, I hope it all works out for your crew in July! I wish I could be there! Sorry if I caused any rain on your parade....
It seems VT/NH is cursed like Seattle/Astoria at times, where it only rains, ON WEEKENDS!, So, you have all my sympathy here.

Ask the Blackfoot to do an anti-rainDance?

Our Abenaki shun those requests, as we white-skinned fools brought the climate change here with our soot-powered machines. Doh.

I plan on still showing up tomorrow Sunday May 18th with boards, cones, broom, leafblower, etc but I'm not bringing food so bring your own food and drink-

Please email, call, Facebook, Tweet, text, smoke-signal(that would be "me") all your friends since I only have some people's emails.

Hey Steigski! Thanks for the input, my wife called to say Jackman isn't going to risk it either and I would have to say that for you and everyone else who is going to drive from anywhere "far", I would'nt bother either and go do something closer to home instead.

June is out for me pretty much so I'm thinking of July (maybe August).

Thanks - Paul

Hey Pauliwog. Doesn't seem like anyone is stepping up with any input, which sucks as it's all one you, my friend. I don't see anyone making a drive given the forecast, but if they don't speak up, whose to know. I know I need to bag it as the drive there and back is more than a day with such uncertainty would warrant. I'm hoping you postpone and will do whatever I can to help get set upn bring food, whatever, if we can schedule something June on. If your left to make the decision with no additional input, I'd feed those in need. Seems they may appreciate it the most. Hope to see you soon!

Weather memories continued......
On 5/17/2014 Pauliwog wrote in from United States  (38.103.nnn.nnn)

OK, so remember then the next year after that (see previous post) the weather forcast wasn't suppossed to be "that" bad, something like "30%-ish chance of scattered showers" figuring it would shower "maybe" and then dry out, and a bunch of us showed up, it drizzled for 3+ hours straight while we hung out and blabbed and then finally we all just decided to pull the rip-cord after a few hours of drizzle since it didn't stop drizzling in Salem?

I have seen so many times where the prediction has been calling for way more than what experienced, and the opposite. This weather system does call for unsettle unstable air which means it likely won't blanket the entire area and precipitate on the entire area for long. But who knows?

In short - I'm still leaning on doing the BBQ, if it gets rained out, I'll take my BBQ and thawed-out food and go to Aumsville, skate and feed the kids at the skatepark where it often is drier, or to Eugene to the new skate park under a big huge bridge and feed the skating masses or just go find some area full of homeless types and be a "nice guy" and feed them.

Unless I hear otherwise - P

OK, remember that one year that it was predicted to have "Rain" well over 50%, then I called it off on the day before and noone showed but 3 or 4 people from far away, and the weather turned out great, they were pissed, I was bummed, and everyone else wished we had done it?

Then remember the next year when the weather

BBQ Comments Please.....
On 5/17/2014 Pauliwog wrote in from United States  (38.103.nnn.nnn)

OK, so since noone responded to Option "A", the BBQ will NOT be changed to today Saterday.

It's 9:45am Sat morning as I type this, I'll check the weather again at 10:05am-ish and see what's up. Currently it's 80% "Showers" 1/10 to 1/4 of an inch as oppossed to "Rain" except where thunderstorms move in and dump more.

My Wife the Weather Witch still says "Just do it, it'll dry out and you'll be able to skate" - I'm leaning in this direction but not stuck to it.

So: POST YOUR COMMENTS - IF I GET NO COMMENTS, I PROBABLY WON'T BOTHER RESCEDULING.

Waiting 'til 10:05 for the new weather update - P

BBQ (and No-go on Saturday for Pauliwog)
On 5/16/2014 Pauliwog wrote in from United States  (38.103.nnn.nnn)

Hey, I looked into changing the BBQ to Saturday(the 17th) but I can't get coverage at work in order to do so.

So, What to do?
A) Everyone Else just show up on Saturday and let me know really soon in the next 10 minutes as of 7:55 pm Friday 5-16-2014 so I can change it on the Contest Calender and send out emails and Everyone Else bring their cones and do whatever for food.
B) My Wifey says "Uhhh, just do it on Sunday, so what, it'll just shower or rain then dry off and you'll be able to skate" - I'm tempted to just carry through as planned.
C) Wait through Saturday and monitor the www.weather.gov and www.weather.com and see what they say and make a decision on Saturday 5-17-204 whether to forge ahead or cancel or go to July or August.

Dang I wanted this to happen, and of course it's on the "wet" weekend!

Put in your 2 cents everyone and do it right here on NCDSA since I don't have time to go back and forth from here to email to here to email, etc.

Thanks - Paul

OK, start thinking about how, when, and where you're going to perform your "No-Rain" dances targeting Sunday May 18th, Salem, Oregon, Bush Park at the Soap Box Derby Hill. It can rain everywhere else, just not there. Yep, that's it for now. Work with me people. Make it happen.
