Saturday, July 10
Giant Slalom on the buttery smooth Scenic Highway, never defiled by the wretched automobile. This is the first time ever used by a skateboard race. Single lane big fast and challenging GS. Best of two to qualify into the 32, and then the fastest time wins from two runs each. Stiff cone penalty rewards cleanliness.

nice pavement, too bad the view sucks

Saturday Night Salmon BBQ and Ramp Session

Plans are in the works for another epic Salmon BBQ and session at either the Obsidian Ramp or Hood Skatepark

Sunday, July 11
Dual tight slalom on the hill in front of Full Sail Brewery with a throng of spectators and a stiff tail wind. This was the scene of the 2002 Haulin' in the Hood FCR race which saw Paul Dunn capture the gold. Tight Slalom returns to Hood in 2004 as part of the American Cup Series with another Steven King course and a great venue. Better, Faster, tighter.

We'll be using Byrd style transition start ramps, tone generated start with the false start DQ rules in effect. Full details at the racers meeting.

The Tight and Giant Slalom are both points races for the American Cup

Getting There
By Air
PDX (Portland International) is a is served by United, Alaska, American, Northwest, America West, Delta and several other airlines. It is sometimes less expensive to fly through Seattle to PDX - so check out the non-direct flights to Portland.
Car Rental
Ganging up on a rental car from PDX for the weekend is probably the best way to go. PDX is a small airport with onsite car rental agencies. Fluitt finished his last race in 2002 and was on a plane within 2 hours.
By Car
From Portland it's a 90 minute drive to Hood River on I-84. From Seattle, WA to Hood River - 4 hours. San Francisco, CA to Hood River - 13 hours. This assumes 80 mph non-stop, a Starbucks stop every 2 hours, a fresh bottle of Clear Eyes and a catheter. 101 to I-80 to I-5 to I-84. Contact Bruce Norski for ride share from NorCal.
Lodging
There are many local hotels in Hood River that can accommodate you for $75 or less. Also check www.hrvacations.com for house rentals in the downtown area.
