  • March 27 Giant Slalom & Speed trap

  • March 28 Hybrid Slalom

  • March 29 Tight Slalom

All three days will be held at the Hockley Soap Box Derby Hill.
Click here for google map link

The soapbox derby hill is closed to traffic, has lights, restrooms and seating for spectators. The Asphalt on a scale of 1-10 is a 9, (9 due to some wear this past year) the hill is a quarter mile long and drops at 1st a 6% then a 4% grade speeds can reach 30-35 MPH due to an almost constant tail wind.

Details on Friday's racing:

Giant Slalom (GS) will be run single lane jam style and begins at 5 p.m. (practice starts at 4 p.m.), cone penalty of .2 second per cone and 15% disqualification limit.

Racers can choose how you start. we will have the BAR (Big Ass Ramp, 9 feet tall), The Ricky Byrd style ramp, or no ramp. You will also have the option of starting farther down the hill but there will be a .2 penalties added to your runs time. This way everybody regardless of skill level will be able to have their two runs.
After GS we will run the speed trap, this is a timed run of 88 feet that is translated in to Miles Per Hour. We set the trap on what we consider to be the fastest portion of the hill. Fastest person through the trap wins. You may start anywhere before the speed trap, pushing or pumping all the way to the trap but both feet must be on the board through the speed trap.
Practice starts at 4 racing starts at 5 if you get there late and we are still racing you will still get your runs but please try and get there as close as to on time as possible.

SATURDAY:

We will run Hybrid Slalom Saturday with practice at 10 a.m. and qualifying beginning at 11 a.m. followed by head to head racing.

Cone penalty is .10 and 15% DQ Limit. We will be using a Trakmate timer with false start detection and Ricky Byrd Style start ramps. Both A and B class will start from the top. We will also run C class Hybrid farther down the hill with push boxes instead of start ramps.

SUNDAY:

Tight Slalom will be held Sunday with practice beginning at 9 and racing at 10 a.m. The top 16 qualifying times will race head to head in A Class. All other racers will compete in single lane jam style format further down the hill.

AWARDS:

We will have the awards ceremony and dinner (where The Outlaws buy the 1st round of drinks) at a restaurant near the hotel, we are working on completing those accommodations and will let you all know as soon as we can.

Additional Details:

Entry is $80 for all three days. Payment can be sent via paypal to Zack Levitt through March 15 (special swag for those who sign up early!) or day of racing on the hill (CASH ONLY!).

NOTE: Racers only interested in GS or the speed trap events Friday will have the option of a $40 entry fee for that day only, these racers will still get a shirt and opportunity to join us for the awards ceremony.

Keep up with upcoming news on The Texas Outlaws Facebook page and the contest event page.If there are any changes to the race these are the best places to keep up with.
All Racers are required to sign a waiver and wear safety gear consisting of at least a helmet, elbow and knee pads are strongly encouraged. Minors must have their parent or guardian sign for them.
Food is included in your entry fee by The Boy Scouts Saturday.

  • Juniors 17 & Under (assuming that we get 4)

SPONSORSHIP:

If you'd be interested in sending product, please contact Paul Adams. For details regarding monetary donations added to the prize purse and logo inclusion on our commemorative t-shirt, please contact Eddy Martinez.
The people who show for this race are skaters through and through. They bomb hills, sweep ditches and drain pools. Ambassadors to the sport, they’ll take your product and wear/ ride it proudly… or pass it on to someone else in more need in hopes of stoking a future rider.

But when these folks have traveled many miles, stayed in a flee bag hotel or set up a tent, we want to give them something that will entice them to continue to help grow this awesome sport we all love.
