Contest Info: Mississippi Grass Roots Slalom, Swell-O-Phonic, Southern Beverage and Road Kill Racing would like to invite everyone to Luna Slalom Jam 3.0 on the infamous Fondren Hill in the Fondren District of Jackson, Mississippi. The event will happen as a part of Rad Day in Fondren. Rad Day will be a full day of all things Rad, including, Skateboarding of all kinds, along with BMX, music, art and craft beers.

Originally Luna Slalom Jam ran annually from 2003 thru 2007 in Jackson and the surrounding area. It was held on Fondren hill for its first two years but moved elsewhere due to the road surface deterioration.

With the continued renaissance of the Fondren area there are now new restaurants, bars and retail shops and… just what we needed as slalom skateboard racers has happened, fresh asphalt on Fondren Hill. The hill is in great condition although slightly narrower than earlier years due to new sidewalks. This of course means faster courses with less offsets in the dual event course and a really nice single lane Giant slalom traversing both lanes of the road. Given the near perfect surface and faster courses and foot brake at the end.

The hill drops quickly for the first 1/3 of the road then flattens out but remains fast. The road does have a slight curve ¾ of the way down which will be compensated for in the course setting and the fact you run both lanes in the dual so it averages out.***A foot brake will be required at the end as the hill is carrying more speed than past years***

We are planning a gathering for the awards ceremony at one of the local Fondren restaurants/bars after the after the Saturday race on Fondren hill.

Friday September 6th: SlalomCross

Josh Byrd and Evan St. Clair on the SlalomCross course in 2004

Friday’s SlalomCross will be two lane, into one lane then back into two lanes for the finish. This type of contest was originated during the FCR Series racing of the early 2000’s in places like Paso Robles, CA. The event always proves exciting for racers and spectators alike. Once the racers have fought their way through the first ten or so cones then the fight really begins as it’s into the single GS type course for both racers where it’s do or die. Then, splitting both into their respective lanes for the finish. I have seen many races won in the final stringer of cones. It’s always a good time. No doubt!! Racers are paired up by the draw of your name, brackets created for the head to head racing.

SlalomCross will be held at 146 Marketplace Drive, Ridgeland, MS 39157
This is the corner of Marketplace Drive and Business Park Drive

Saturday’s Luna Slalom Jam 3.0 will begin set up on the hill and 12 noon.
Single Lane Giant Slalom will be the first event of the day. Cone penalty .20 per cone 15% cone DQ limit, all racers get two runs.

Tight Hybrid slalom will be 1st qualifying and then head to head racing. Cone penalty .10 per cone 15% cone DQ limit; we will be using Ricky Byrd style start ramps and Trakmate timer with false start detection. If you false start it will be a DQ for that run. Tight Hybrid slalom will run 1st A class and will be the top 16 only. Qualifying then head to head ladder style racing. Note if you do not qualify for the A class then the racer will be allowed to race in the B/C race. But their times will be reset. B& C class will be run single lane jam style; all racers will get two runs. Note there will be two lanes from the A class race already set up, so we will both lanes but still it will be run jam style.
Please note: There will be A, B and C classes for Pros and AMs, Masters, Womans and Juniors, only your time will seat you nothing else, and all points will be to where you place after head to head racing within the entire class. So, this means that if there are for example, 8 racers in the A class and you come in 1st in the B class you will be in ninth place for the whole class and so on down the line. If we have enough Master’s & Juniors or woman to make a division (declared the magic number is 4) then they will be eligible to win both their class as well as they place they earn over all.

Cash payout prizes are for overall finishes for all three events only - 1st $300, 2nd $200, 3rd $100
