That doesn't sound "new" to me. You bought a used board, correct?
"I have never skated seismics, I tightened the springs up all the way and have tried to wrench that king pin as tight as I could but there still seems to be a fraction of play in that front truck. I am worried about wobbles, not turning tight enough, basically eating ****. Any thoughts on what might be the ideal set up for this deck? How can I tell if this truck is blown, should I replace springs? Should I replace the truck?"
The Seismic/Tracker RT-S combo is an excellent setup for the Bahne. But you have to realize that Seismics don't slow down when you tighten the kingpin. Tighten the kingpin snug, but no tighter. You use the little Allen wrench to tighten the springs (through the little holes in the top of the hanger). My advice would be to tighten them all the way down, then back them off a couple of turns each. Loosen them more if you need to. The cool thing about Seismics is that you can set individual spring preload for each spring, making them very adjustable. If you need stiffer springs, those are available in lots of different places, including Purple Skunk.
The rear Tracker RT-S works very well with the Khiro bushings, which are also available in lots of places (including the Skunk and direct from Khiro). _____________________________________________________________

Bahnes "r" great. Do a search on "Bahne" or "Black Hill" or "Blackhill" on this site and you'll get a lot of opinions and technical info.
The Bahne Black Hill measures 29.25" long by 8.375" wide at its widest point. It comes drilled for an old-school pattern truck, which is really any truck you'd ever want to use for slalom. It also comes double-drilled at both ends, so you can adjust the wheelbase to suit your needs. You can therefore come up with the following wheelbases (measured by the distance between inner truck mounting holes): • 19.5" • 20" (both trucks moved to forward set of holes) • 20" (both trucks moved to rearward set of holes) • 20.5"
It comes in both 7-ply and 6-ply configurations. My estimate for the "grey range" for weight runs around 140-160 pounds. If you weigh more than 160, order the 7-ply. Less than 140, get the 6-ply. If you're in-between, you should decide how much flex you like before you order. Or get 'em both!
Bahne also makes the Banshee, aka the Mystery Ship, which runs around $150-160 for the deck only.

Im not gay or anything, but has everyone seen the Concrete Wave Holidays issue, insect boards advertisement on page 94??? that guy is so smooth busting out that nose pose with such style you gotta wonder if the picture is real or digitally enhanced. OK, so its a picture of me over the summer, but there is snow here in New York, with no signs of skating until may... unless my great aunt drops dead at that retirement community down in Georgia and I tearfully board the next plane with a hockey bag filled with longboards. Such is life. Return to your normal lives now, sorry for the lame post.

Yeah Tom my Allstar is what got me back into this thing after 20 years away. It is really fun at speeds up to about 15mph(approx 20kph) and especially fun for pumpimg endlessly. Note that the dimensions in the LY website are totally wrong: length wheelbase etc all wrong. It is 27 1/4" long and the wheel base as defined by the well established method of inner holes to inner hole is I believe about 19 1/2". I have gone very fast on it on some empty roads on the west coast islands(Gabriola and Vancouver Island) but I prefer a deck like my homemade flex deck that damps out the rebound. I tried to get a discussion of damping and flex characteristics going but as in most sports the guys who really rip don't have much going intellectually and that got shut down. Greg

If the garage story is true, that would probably be Jack Smith's garage. By the way, he's been a/the driving force in the rebirth of slalom, FCR frontman, Morro Bay World Championships organizer/promoter for the last 4(?) years, Skate Across America organizer/participant, and all around good-guy. TK,
Hunter S Thompson said about jack rabitts (and it goes for squirrels) that all they have to do is eat, sleep, and screw. So for an adreneline rush they run out in front of cars and do the nervous camber dance.
Same reason we ride skateboards.

Greg, you ride a Landyachtz Allstar? Looks like a nice ride, but you say its too flexy with more speed? I'm a little surprised its so bouncy. How long have you been riding it? Been thinking of getting one. I weigh in at 210, and ride a homemade flexy. Took me a while to get used to, but now I'm a flex devotee!

What is Nervous Camber

Nervous Camber is like when you are driving down Rt 1 and a squirlle runs halfway out in the road and does that little dance and runs back real fast before being run over. That is what nervous Camber is like. Can we move on now.

Nervous camber seems to be, from the descriptions below an undamped flex. My Landyachtz Allstar is a bouncy flexy little board, great at low speed around-town pumping and turning. But at 15mph and up it flexes too much and wants to spit me off. It is giving back every bit of downward force put into it. Perhaps it is just too soft for higher speeds.I have a homemade deck which has a core of a material which I know sucks energy out of the rebound. It is damped. It feels dead at slow speeds but more stable at higher speeds. Perhaps a stiffer deck that was not lossy(damped) would be good too. I don't know as I am just getting into this. I have always liked flex decks though from my Bahne in 1975 to my 1976 G and S (quit in 1979 til now)to my recent decks. Snow skis have a lot of research and development by engineers and scientists to blend the right amount of flex and dampening. Is there anyone quantifying these characteristics when designing decks? Some sort of standardized test like a weight dropping on the middle of the deck pinned at a given wheelbase with a pen recorder recording the oscillations of the deck until it stops moving. That would give an idea of the flex and the dampening. Makes me think that we should be skiing skis designed for out weight too though..hmmm... Greg

nervous camber

ok, here's my theory...any board with camber will tend to be more bouncy than a flat, stiff deck. This makes it more lively..ie. nervous. If it has a lot of camber, it can become very lively/nervous even to the point of bouncing (oscillating?) to it's own rythym...bouncing or trampolining is NOT desired in a deck that will reach decent speeds - it can throw you off, which would make me very nervous. Check downhill decks...they are stiff.

So I just got the new Bahne black hill slalom deck and it was set up with used cambrias (definitely need replacing) a tracker in the back (cool) and a pretty used seismic up front. Now, I have never skated seismics, I tightened the springs up all the way and have tried to wrench that king pin as tight as I could but there still seems to be a fraction of play in that front truck. Needless I am worried about wobbles, not turning tight enough, basically eating Sh*t. Any thoughts on what might be the ideal set up for this deck? How can I tell if this truck is blown, should I replace springs? Should I replace the truck?

sector 9s are my altime favorite in longboards. i had just gotten my pintail when these 5 or 6 other longboarders cruise down the sidewalk. finally we sat down for a litle while, got to ride some other boards, the longboard i had was deffinetly the best. although i recomend loonsning the pivot trucks that some with the complete, they were to tight for carves. sector nines rock.period.
the greeseballs that come with them die!, buy some reds, the greeseballs r ok for temporary bearings but if u want something affordable and fast, go with reds.

Sharkatron, I've had some experience with the Bahne BH model and other "stinger" shaped decks. In order to run Avilas or any 70mm+ wheel on there, you'll have to either add additional risers or custom cut/sand/grind some wheelwells, at least into the front of the deck. Wheelbite is a VERY BAD thing, especially on the front truck, so do everything you can to avoid it.
If you're convinced you need a larger wheel, try some Avalons or Manx or ABEC11 sub-71mm wheels on there. AFA what size risers to use, that's easy:
Carefully remove the springs on the front Seismic truck, and re-install the kingpin. You'll now be able to see whether or not you've got wheel clearance at full truck compression. Just add the amount of risers you need until the wheels clear by at least 1/8" on both sides. Then add the same (or just a tad less) risers to your rear truck so your board rides either level or with just a tiny more rise in the front (some slalom racers prefer this).
Good luck!
-=S=-
ps...Jack, any idea when the Bahne website will be back up and running?

Thanks Jack-- I am mostly a carver, fast downhill and some slalom. I am having one of these set up with a seismic and a tracker with cambrias. I currently ride a 3dm and dig it a lot but wanted to try shorter to work on my pump. how would avilas do on this board? What size risers would you recommend?
