Thanks everyone for coming out Sunday for the 2nd installment of the cali outlaw series. Also a big thanks to everyone who helped drive, keep track of heats and let us borrow equipment. The weather couldn’t be better and everyone was fast as hell. We started with 21 racers and by the time it was to the final we were left with James Kelly, Dubes, Dave Rogers and Myself. Upon the start I found myself pushing like crazy. After about 3 giant pushes I realized everyone else sand bagged and all I could think to myself was to push like ive never pushed befor. Once I was off and running I knew it was a matter of time befor some one passed me. About half way down James Kelly came flying past me and created about a 40 foot gap between us. Somehow, and I really don’t know how, I managed to pass James and the finish line was in sight. Then out of nowhere I could see Dubes out of the corner of my eye. By the time we got to the finish there was less than a foot between all of us. It was tough but I managed to hold the lead for the win with Dubes coming in 2nd, Dave Rogers 3rd and James Kelly 4th. Thanks again everyone for coming out and get ready for Barret Junction ASR weekend JAN 24-25th. Flyer coming soon.

All right everyone, The 2009 California Outlaw Series is upon us!!!!!!!! As DT stated in a previous post, I am now operator and organizer of the series. Nothing will change in terms of what you are all used to. All races will still be 30 bucks to enter….. With 10 going to the pot that day, 10 going to drivers, helpers, course workers ECT. and last but not least 10 going to the TOP 3 series finishers. The one thing that will change however is the series points system. Last year a point system was used that awarded a racer X amount of points per whatever position they placed. This year, The position you get in the race is your points, And the idea is that the person at the end of the series with the LEAST amount of points is the winner. This brings up another thing that will change…. Last year we did 8 races and your best 5 finishes counted………THIS YEAR ITS 10 RACES and your best 7 finishes count. Without going on any further id like to post the tentative list of races…….
2009 California Outlaw Series Race 1) Nov. 2 - Jonny Millers Toyland Ranch Race 2) Dec DTBA – Dump Road Race 3) Jan ASR weekend – Barrett Junction (hopefully in the RAIN!) Race 4) Feb DTBA – Wrightwood (MT. High night snowboard session will go down after this race.) Race 5) March DTBA – Danny Connors Ridgecrest Massacre!!! Race 6) April TBA Race 7) May DTBA – Bolinas Fairfax Road Race 8) June TBA Race 9) July 4 – Same place as last years July 4th race (shhhhh) Race 10) Aug. TBA
As you can see we have a stacked outlaw season this year. TBA races will be announced through out the year. This weekend is the first stop, Jonny Millers Ranch. Click the link , Register and see the flyer for all necessary Details.

I wish to take this time to thank all of the riders that came out to our series. Without you, we are nothing. You can’t have a race without riders. ˇRESPECT! Riders have the choice to go anywhere and ride anytime they choose. They can choose to be positive or negative and we were blessed to have 89 righteous riders. It’s these riders that made a purse available to the top 3, and they truly earned it. We had a different winner at each race, multiple formats, riders in their early teens, and riders in their forties. Many new faces came out of the woodwork, to gauge themselves against a standard. As well as scarcely seen EDI veterans like Eli Smouse, Brent Dekeyser, and Reed Lowery. Getting to hang with old teammates, new friends, and my regular skate bros was like a pot of hot ketchup soup for a hunger stricken vagabond. Eh, don’t forget the Tapatio. The memories I took will live forever; from Danny’s birthday bbq, to In-N-Out after the cold wet day at Frazier Park, camping in the cold, windy rain at Barrat Junction, to the Flindt family’s hospitality, to the 115+ degree dirty, condor circling heat in King City. I don’t think anyone can forget TOYLAND and the Miller families’ aloha, FULL ON!
I also want to thank all of the sponsors and individuals that helped drag this beast home. Starting with the hosts that collaborated behind the scenes. Rick Kludy, Danny Connor, Nick and Riley Meehan, James Kelly, Boogie, Andrew Mercado, Jay LaPalm, Johnny Miller and the entire CCMF crew. I want to thank Bricin with Coast Longboarding and Adam with NCDSA for rallying to the cause without hesitating.
Rogers Bros Downhill is responsible for cultivating our series and having our back from day one. Thank you John, Laurie, Dave, and Judith! Dave designed and made our Cali trophies, as well as provided gear for finalists.
Zak Maytum from Venom Racing hooked up the top 5 finalists with high quality bushings. Venom tests their product on some of the gnarliest hills with many of the best riders feeding the serpent’s fury with real world feedback and progressive ideas.
Randal Fuller is another classic example of an enthusiastic entrepreneur that at one time competed in downhill racing, his work and designs are what broke the backbone of the generic truck mold and is the most copied longboard and luge truck. With new owner Michael Bream at the reins, the company is back on fire with new creations, cleaned up quality, vision for the future, yet still respecting and honoring Randal Speed Trucks deep roots.
I also want to thank Sector 9, Loaded, Tactis, Sonora Skate Shop, and Abec 11 for donating prizes at select events.

I hope you will read on for my last few important notes. I among others have often flown these banners below. They have passionate meaning to me.
I will review them china style from right to left.
The PURE EVEL award goes to the rider that displayed the most courage with the ballsiest pass. At Danny Connor’s birthday race, many people ate dirt, but none of them pulled a maneuver like JEFF BUDRO. From third he could have gone wide and played it safe(first crashed). He would have advanced, instead he pulled a double draft and narrowly passed an unintentionally pinching David Price on the inside with no room for a hand. David did right by holding his line right on him, which forced Jeff to either take him out or choose a poor line. He respected Price and held his line into the dirt, much like Cavey had done in years past. He didn’t back down or settle. I was standing inches from them in the apex and could see the whites of his eyes. This was quick and perhaps nothing, anyone could overlook this, but for those that saw it up close, it made our blood boil and cheers followed.
The Jolly Roger flag was Gary’s favorite and hung from the TVS awnings. To me it represents pure unbridled passion and love of our sport, along with the willingness to sacrifice ones self to go fast. This rider constantly makes those around them better. A true racer. This rider will be chosen by the TVS downhill team and announced later.
Finally we have the ANIMAL CHIN award for the rider who sets the bar. This is the rider that everyone is checking and gauging themselves with. The riders that raced in 5 or more races will choose this recipient and it will be announced later.
I have decided to choose who I feel is the most improved. This is hard, 3 come to mind but only one won a race. BRETT NELSON congrats, keep riding hard.
I want to point out an error that was made at the ranch. I left out Andrew Mercado’s race 8 results from his overall total. My bad, perhaps red bull and absinth is a bad combo to drink while tallying points. Tim Delrosario was announced as 3rd and awarded $250 prize money. He gets to keep the money but not 3rd place, congratulations Andrew Mercado. Andrew never once complained, whined, or even said a word. He came to ride. He is a man of solid character and should be rightfully applauded.
Our first place race came down to the wire between James Kelly and John Rogers. Both raced with a 90% plus winning percentage. The series is based on 1000 pt perfect score. A mere 42 points separated them. Experience outranked athletic ability, neither racer should ever be taken lightly. James Kelly took home $500 and John Rogers $1000. The remaining money was given to Johnny Miller for his hospitality at the ranch and hosting our hardcore thrashin ways. This makes the California Republic Stand Up Series 2008 entirely non-profit.
Movements and trends die, but a revolution gets its name by always coming back around in your face.
ShoOTs!!! dt
