I just found out that there is a meeting for the development of new skateboard park to is supposed to be located at the Montrose parking lot by the lake (not sure where exactly). I plan on attending because I want to make sure that they choose some profession consultants this time. I'll post the address of the meeting tomorrow (forgot to write it down (damn) but it is at 5:00 PM at a park district location around Laurence and Marine Drive. You can call Belmont Army Surplus' skateshop for the meeting location details otherwise.

AAA?
Is that an Arboretum on Sunday, an Oak St. Beach on Sunday, an "AAA, I just can't make it this weekend" or "AAA, I've just been stabbed. . ."?!!!
I can leave Libertyville around 1:00-1:30 (first things first on a Sunday, know what I'm sayin?) so could get downtown or to Lisle/D.G. by around 2:00-2:30. Anyway, forecast says sunny and 50 and I have GOT to get some wigglin' in. I just got back from RRR and had a decent session, but man-I'm gettin to old for that!
Cross your fingers and my Roe Hester will show up at the office on Friday and I'll have 3 rockin' set ups to run!!! (It's pretty bad when you have to have your new stuff sent to the office cause your wife has been rolling her eyes lately when boxes from the West coast show up!!!). God, I love that girl anyway.
C'mon, dudes (and dudettes). Let's ride!!!!

Looks like a beautiful weekend in the Windy City. Anyone up for a session Sunday afternoon? I'd be cool with Oak St. Beach (still never been there) or the Arboretum. Let me know via this page or by return e-mail.
Also, I'll be heading over to Ramp Rail and Roll in Mundelein tonight for some vert action. If anyone's interested, and needs me to pack a board, give me a call on my cell phone. 847-903-3452.

Hey guys, Check this auction out. We should pool our resourses and grab these for starter boards or giveaways at contests.

Brian P - great idea! Several kids want to run slalom but don't want to spend another $110+ of their hard earned $$ or theeir parents dough ("Isn't ONE skateboard enough?"). Good call I'll be adding it into our format in So. O.C. Ca.

Those of you who haven't checked out the Grass Roots Slalom web site lately should look through it closely. Hugh has done a phenomenal job in fleshing out the site with really useful content, especially in the "Host a Race" section.
Nicely done, Hugh !

Ricky,
I am like you. I have organized a series of races in the DC area. But attracting new racers, I have found, requires some creativity.
The first race was a success but all of our newbies were older guys who were familier with slalom. With the exception of Curt Kimbel's son Will.
For our next race I have decided to have a longboard slalom race in addition to our traditional slalom race. Wide open GS style course that if you can ride a skateboard you can make it through the course. The format will be as many run as you can get in within an hour. Fastest time wins. This type of race keeps things simple. I know that the number of participants needs to be small to make this work but usually we have a small crowd.
I tell everybody about these races and direct them to this site or my site. If we can only get people to show up, after they race they will be hooked.
I am not sure that starter boards in shops are the way to go. Longboards are cool and alot of kids have Sector Nine and Gravity boards, shops carry them and you can set a slalom course that can be run on them.
Any other ideas?

Hello, slalom fans-been out of the loop for over a week, so wanted to say hello and wish I could be ridin' with you soon.
Hey, Brady. Did you ever get those pics downloaded of our session while I was down there? If so, shoot one or two-especially the group shot around your truck with our quivers.
See ya soon!

Brady, I've had Starter boards in all two shops in town for a while now. At this point I'm not totally expecting someone to buy them, I'm just hoping they start a slalom conversation or prompt questions from people who see them. These are the boards I plan on using as prizes in a race. How many do you have coming out? I am looking up shops in New Orleans and Memphis now. Wouldn't it be terrible to have to race in the Big Easy.

Ricky, I was toying with a couple of local surf/skate shops by bringing an assortment of boards by so others can try them out. I offered to leave a board or two behind nut they kind of hinted they can`t be responsible for it. Maybe after I stop buying stuff for myself (like that`s ever gonna happen) I might buy one of the GRS starter boards to leave at the shop. My biggest problem right now is cones. I can go buy soccer cones and cut them down but I don`t want to make that investment if real slalom cones will soon be availble (Dave,Chris?).
I slacked off since the holidays but now it`s time to turn up the heat!!!!!! Let the bodies hit the floor.... (Drowning Pool) Let`s bring it on GRS, FASST, USSSF, UKSSA, FCR, SSS, heck even ISSA (I`m gonna catch S--T for that) ;-)
