Scheckey, eggman, thanks for the advice, bros. Sounds like a phat way to propel ones self on the longboards! One question, what are your thoughts on,say, half a dozen Jack Rollins terriers (Jim Carreys dog, Milo, in the "Mask") rather than one big mutt?! My woman does not want a big mutt, so I figure a bunch of little mutts will do the trick. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think they would all run in the same direction? What about the doggy doo doo factor? Is this like, some logistical nightmare waiting to be born? Am I just pipe dreaming here, or what?! Help me out , boyz, the Spankster needs some heavy advice!

scheckey,
Yeah, that is good advice. I figure then the dog will be able to run even faster! Hey Spanky, the make and model dog I use, is a 45 lb lab mutt. I think he is a lab, houndog and charpie (sp?)mix.. You can get one at the SPCA for only seventy dollars. (of course your maintainance costs will be much higher) Considering he never gets out much, whenever he pulls me, he loves it. Anyway, it is fun to check out the neighbors reactions as I am in a full tuck bookin down the street, with the dog running full blast. I don't know how fast he goes, but if you are on a short board, you will get the speed wobbels and biff it. Enjoy the ride!

Spanky, I got my dog from West Virginia. Shes a great mutt and loves to eat old wheels and berrings. Shell wash that down with a good stout or porter. Get a dog about 45 or 50 Lbs at least. Labs are cool but you cant beat mutts. My dog will cruise with me being towed about 10mph or so on a good day.
You got to get a dog dude. Love my dog.

Man...geez...I wish I..I had a pooche to pull me around. :-( What kind of puppy is good Longboard Dog? What do you feed them? How fast do they go? What happens when they take a shit? Any help you could give the Spankster would be greatly appreciated. Spanky is jealously out of here!

Eggman..YEAH BRO!! Im working with my dog also. I would suggest using a harness instead of a choke or normal collar though. The harness goes around the poohes shoulders not neck, and through experience have found my dog likes to breath. Weird huh?...

Hey Kiddies,
Lately I have been having the family dog tow me. It is soooo killer, and the dog books. He loves it and I love it. I think he can pull me about twenty mph. He is getting stronger all the time and his distances at full speed are improving. You should try, but you cant have a yapper dog, ya gots ta have a big dog. Enjoy the ride.

I made my own longboard and it works ok, but i used the trucks
from an old-school skateboard. They also have big soft wheels.
Can you stop with soft wheels, or should i get other ones?

Longboards are for going fast and huge Coleman slides.
It's alot more fun to bomb a big hill than hang five on the flats

Read the better entries on this site from Coleman,Randal etc
Learn what Longboards are really for.

Keep Bombing to all the Downhillers from around the world.

If you ride a lonboard/downhill skateboard, you probably ride
a longboard in the Ocean too. I find that my skating helps my surfing tremendously.
Try riding your skateboard like a surfboard, walk it, nose ride it, drop need carves,
and just groove in a fluid motion. works for me .Aloha friends

thanks.

HEY TEDDY, FIRST THING, TO DO BATTLE WITH THE SPEED WOBBLES ... TIGHTEN THOSE TRUCKS UP. JUST REMEMBER THAT TRUCKS ARE MADE TO TURN ,SO FIND OUT WHAT WORKS FOR YOU ( OR FOR THAT HILL). YOU CAN ALSO TRY HARDER BUSHINGS. IF YOU WANNA STOP OR SLOW DOWN YOUR GONNA HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO SLIDE... IF YOUR DOWN-HILLING ON YOUR FEET THERE ARE REALLY NO OTHER OPTIONS. YOUR NOT GONNA SLIDE REAL WELL WITH SUPER SOFT WHEELS, BUT YOULL SLIDE ALL OVER THE PLACE WITH REALLY HARD WHEELS. SOFT WHEELS ARE WHAT YOU WANT IF YOU DONT WANNA SLIDE. OH WELL, THINK OF RONNY RIPPER THE FIRST TIME YOU LOSE SOME ELBOW MEAT LEARNING TO SLIDE.

Randle wrote a discription of the Coleman slide and what type of glove is necessary. If you make or buy gloves to facilitate this technique, make sure to use TWO gloves. One glove will help you do the slide, but if you get pitched from your board you will need two gloves!!! You can then slide in a pushup position much like Ricky Henderson if you high side and fall off the front. You can't do this with one glove and will instead tumble resulting in inpact injuries. Good luck and write if you have any questions.

Cliff

RESPONDING TO SCOTT SOLMONSONS BLURB: JUST FOR FUTURE REFERENCE, THAT POWELL HOT ROD DECK DEFINATLY IS NOT A LONG-BOARD (SO WHAT ...AS LONG AS YOU DIG IT, RIGHT!) AND THOSE LITTLE PLASTIC THINGS YOUR TALKING ABOUT USED TO BE CALLED "SKY-HOOKS" WHEN I WAS BUT A WEE YOUNG ONE! .....MY VIEW ON SKATING: NO ONE BOARD IS PERFECT FOR EVERY SITUATION SO WORK ON PUTTING TOGETHER A GOOD VERT BOARD, A GOOD BOARD FOR DOWNHILL SLIDES, AND A FEW GOOD LONGBOARDS WITH WHEELS MADE OF BUBBLE-GUM. THEN SKATE EVERYTHING. ADIOS!
