I have it... it works... it was only 30 bucks and tells the speed withing 4%. If you dont have friends who can sit on the side of the road and time you, you as the boarder yourself can use it. Just follow something like a stationary car next to you with it and it tells you your speed. Believe me it works... everyone should own one!! btw can someone tell me whats the bst body position for 30+? like crouched and hands behind back? please email the answer to me!! thanks

Jayson, go to www.about.com and search 'skateboarding'. Sounds like a cheesy suggestion but Steve Cave is a great guy and explains many topics well there including ollies.

him, Sorry I was just jabbing you a bit in fun. I imagined someone running every downhill deck at speed, checking for stability and it seemed funny to me. Maybe that'd be good though? Too many variables though; equipment, surface, the rider, preference. I agree, I'd rather be on a stiff flex deck over 30mph. The new HellCat is sik by the way.

I think vision skateboards makes a speedometer (not exatly sure, I have a chase car to clock speeds.does the Hot Wheels radar gun work at higher speeds?) that is mounted above the front truck. the cords go down and around the hanger or something and the magnet that it reads is drilled into the wheel.
I have used boards that have a camber and have droped and dewedged trucks.
I'm not sure what a 'speed-rating' is.
I just think that stiffer boards are better for downhill because when I'm footbraking I don't really like feeling flex under my standing foot when only one leg is steering. Maybe thats just me, I don't know what you prefer.

Not entirely a longboarding kind of thing, but, whatever.
Ollie:
1) rear foot on tail, not on center, but slightly offset behind you, barely barely barely
2) front foot behind front trucks
3) slam the tail and nearly at the same time drag your front foot up the board to the nose.
4) level your self out
5) repeat repeat repeat repeat until you got it solid.
I recommend starting first on dry grass, because it doesn't hurt much to fall on that, then start on a flat piece of asphalt, without cars. Once you have really got ollieing WITHOUT moving, try them while moving

I pretty much have the stand up footbrake dialed in at lower speeds, but I was wondering about the crouched, grabbing the sides of your board version. I push and foot brake mongo, so if I try it crouched will it be easier to use my regular braking foot or switch to the rear foot? It seems kind of awkward to crouch down and take the front foot off, but at the same time I'm not used to braking with the rear foot.

hey snoball... stop lying! I have raced, watched races, and have never seen the landy dropcarve being used. anyway... the stance for a tuck on that board would be to have your front foot not over the truck but slightly behind it, the backfoot should be half to three quarters of the way down the rest of the deck. because of the camber (bow likeness) in the deck it isn't the best for high speeds. for speeds from 10-39 it is a fine board. for 40-65 i would recomend something like the landy drop-race or the KEBBEK flushcut or RAYNE demonseed or hellcat. As far as trucks i would use RANDAL II's for starters then move on to the RANDAL DH's if speed is your thing. RII's can go 50mph I've done it myself, but they aren't super stable and at higher speeds arent manuverable for harder turns. the RDH's can go to the higher speeds without any problems. I hope this helps. Oh for downhill skating technique and riding tips, the first 10 pages of both (Q and A) going downhill with David Rogers, and Chris Chaput on speed. Both have good stuff on them including vids. and diagrams.

Lamdun, go to youtube.com and run a search on 'speedboarding' videos...you should come up with a few of some pro races...pay close attention to their stance, as many in the vids use that board you have...i don't ride a deck like that so not going to answer it myself ;)
