John Gilmour,

That is real nice of you to try and show the good attributes of some of the people involved in slalom, there is a certain number of people that I would have to question on that list though.

First off, I fail to see what good building a website is, and how exactly did this get people involved in slalom, also what good is it when Vlad discourages racers from coming to the US to race in the World Championships, how many others did he persuade not to come, what good is it for yourself and these others to castigate and belittle the efforts of the people that are responsible for slalom competitions world wide, how does this help to promote slalom?

For all the good you claim of yourself and these others, you will always be remembered for the bad. Remember that! Because the rest of us do.

I've got an idea to............

Lets let those that are involved in slalom races be the ones to criticize them.

2 words that ring so true in previous post about the current topic of discussion

Speculation and Credibilty

spec·u·la·tion ( P ) Pronunciation Key (spky-lshn)
n.

Contemplation or consideration of a subject; meditation.
A conclusion, opinion, or theory reached by conjecture.
Reasoning based on inconclusive evidence; conjecture or supposition.

speculation

n 1: a message expressing an opinion based on incomplete evidence [syn: guess, conjecture, supposition, surmise, hypothesis] 2: a hypothesis that has been formed by speculating or conjecturing (usually with little hard evidence);

Please, lets not let people that have no part of something speculate on things, John I agree that there is some need for contructive criticism, but not by some bystanders that have no part in the process.

cred·i·bil·i·ty ( P ) Pronunciation Key (krd-bl-t)
n.
The quality, capability, or power to elicit belief.

credibility

\Cred`i*bil"i*t y\ (kr[e^]d`[i^]*b[i^]l"[i^]*t[y^]), n. [Cf. F. cr['e]dibilit['e].] The quality of being credible; credibleness; as, the credibility of facts; the credibility of witnesses.

credibility

n : the quality of being believable or trustworthy [syn: credibleness, believability] [ant: incredibility]

What credibilty is there for someone who at best can only speculate about what happened at a race they did not attend?

PS I still want to know how Vlad is only 1 of 3 persons that knows the outcome of 3 races he did not attend, and who is the 20 people in the world that know how to slalom, I sure as heck hope I'm on that list, otherwise I'm done with slalom, to all you manufacturers, blame Vlad for killing your business.

Vlad, insulted you by not coming to the worlds? How many East Coast regular slalom races have you attended Arab? How many times have you gone to Europe to promote slalom? Does it matter?

Come on Arab- You do help out with set up and tear down, you did a good job announcing..after all you were there. Do you criticise racing on the East Coast and Europe? Did you attend any non banked slalom events? Just let people respond for themselves.

If you want to knock someone who has helped to promote slalom- well no one is stopping you, but it does look odd to some. Vlad went to Russia + France, helped get some Russian slalomers back into slalom- and probably was a really nice guy while he was at it. Probably gave out some gear as well. He's given out a load of decks. So how do these people he helped view Arab for harping on Vlad? The largest block of unearthed slalomers is in the Former Eastern Block. We will see in two years what Vlad has done for the sport. If you don't want to see some skilled Former Eastern Block skaters show up to race- just discourage Vlad. I would like to race in Russia. It likely doesn't mean anything to you....but I would bet that Howard Gordon would like to take his kids to race there, so might Terry Brown, Ricky Byrd and others. Its sort of a field trip with skateboarding.

Look I think I can spot someone who is going to do good for slalom. I'm sure you disagree with me- but here goes. Kenny Mollica chronicled slalom with his DVD's. Does Kenny have to do anything else to show he helps the sport? No. It takes HUNDREDS of hours to make those DVD's. Likely over 1000 hours of editing.....time he could be skating.

Dan Gesmer has sponsored slalom events before FCR even started. I don't expect Dan to have to help with Video editing or scaffolding.

Howard and Hedi Gordon have dumped lots of time $$ and organization effort into getting this going. I know he is having a great time as are his kids. I certainly wouldn't expect Howard to try and do anything more for slalom.

Jack Smith has devoted countless hours to this as well. I don't expect Jack to go to Europe, why should he? He already Skated across the USA 3 times...isn't that enough travel for one man. No to mention that he did fly out to a DC race.

Jani Soderhall wrote the Slalom! mags and helped to develop a bunch of rules made by racers and even institute the idea of an ISSA Judge. Jani was sort of the Rosetta stone as he speaks English, Swedish, French, as well as being computer saavy. He wasa World Champion several times over. I certainly don't expect Jani to have to do anything else for the sport. Frankly, it's amazing that he continues this level of involvement.

UR13 helped to develop the Turner Website. That helped get people into the sport. Instead of arguing over the net he helped develop content that helped people decide to actually buy products and get started.

Glen Darcy helped put together a lot of video footage and chronicle the pre 1999 history- does Glenn have to show up at races? No. Hell I'm thankful he did what he did.

Brian Parsons threw his own race series. He helped GBJ roll the ball further up the hill. I certainly don't expect anything more of Brian.

Gary Holl has done a similar thing on the West Coast. Someday his ties with Apple might come into play...who knows?

I have a hard time finding anyone who hasn't helped to spread the slalom vibe in a positive way, whether they are East Coast,Rocky Mountains, West Coast, European, UK, Australian, Japanese whatever.

I haven't done anything for slalom other than enjoy it, write a few articles, try to bring some people together, travel to races, and coach a few people, sell decks and teach highschool students. Did I pick up cones at MB? You said I didn't. Likely people will believe you- good for you.

I don't expect anyone to do anything for slalom other than to enjoy it- and hopefully on ocassion show up to race and guage their progress. I certainly don't think it is reasonable to expect people to make even 1/4 of the races everywhere. Making 2 races per year is plenty for most, but you get hooked and find you attend a lot more.

Anyway, Arab just relax on the keyboard and enjoy the fact that people appreciated your efforts at Morro Bay. Let people defend themselves- this isn't a gang. Some Criticism is meant to be constructive- let it be taken as such.

Ok good lord. I have typed a response to Eric's rants twice now but stopped myself from posting it due to "he isn't worth it" part about it.

But that last post of his (below) is pricesless.

"Its about being Positive and seeing the good in things to help grow slalom world wide"

Ummm...and you are positive, insulting, intimidating and criticising people JUST who have an opion that differes from yours....SUUUUURRRREEEEE. I can think of at least 5 people that YOUR attitude alone has turned away from this message board AND sport.

"If you want to criticize an event and the people that put them on, then show up and partake in them, being a monday morning quarterback that wasnt even in or at the game is foolish"

I agree with this point partly. I agree Monday morning Quarterbacking is lame..but I disagree that you have to show up to an event to offer an opinion on it. I mean sure is someone is ranting about "oh that course from sunday, that 3rd cone sucked and the headwind was bad...." but weren't there that is lame. However if that person wants to abstract the opinions presented to them either here online or via the phone I have no issue with it nor is it a bad thing to speak in abstracts and large scale issues.

"foolish, arrogant and shows a lack of professionalism that is so rapant in this sport by a chosen few bitter biased irrelevent people."

Good god Eric! And YOu are the model for "professionalism"? Give me a break! Who do you think you are Mr. Superstar (and please don't go back into your typical "I've been skateboarding sine 1961 blah blah blah...)

"These people have shown how little they actually know about slalom with criticism all over the web about people they have never met and races they have never been to.'

Speaking for myself any particular person I have criticized here or the other site I HAVE MET in person and/or raced them OR raced in a race they have put on. I'm sorry Eric I haven't been skateboarding since 1960 whatever and obviously CAN'T know what I am talking about. f#@! me huh!

I know the issues you keep dragging out about me specifically and your little games Arab. The main issue of world championships and such we have gone over and over. If anyone cares to know MY opinions on the subject (other than Aarb's copy/pasting here taking things out of context) go to the other site and read them for yourself. I am sure Arab will copy/paste more stuff in response to this post but I won't respond unless he covers the entire issue. Responding to things out of context is pointless.

I have opinions on where I want to see the sport go and how i would like to see it structured. You seem to too. We disagree but this loud mouth bully approach to shouting everyone down does no good for anyone.

"Then after they throw their little barbs they fail to back them up or respond to others comments about their attacks, spineless whimps!"

Actually, in relation to specifically you I think alot of people realized it is like talking to a wall. They just ignore your rants when they can and move on to useful things. You haven't gotten that yet Arab?

"If they want to make accusations, insults and criticisms about people places and things that they had no part of, then they should be prepared to answer the questions that those of us that were there have, and they best have some proof to back their BS up"

Umm, you are jsut as guilty about this as anyone Arab. How many little jabs or insults have you made in regards to East Coast events or races you know nothing or little about and haven't attended.

"So who is the Hypocrite Mr Hypocrite? "

Doesn't this question answer itself by your post?

---

Arab. I don't get why anyone or any organization who puts on an event is above criticism. Why can't people debate and discuss ideas here without insults and name calling. I respect you for having a strong opion, no matter how insane it is or how much I disagree with some parts of it. I have my own opinions as well, I could honestly care less if you agree with them or not. They are just opinions.

I love you earlier post today about "good hardcore east coast" racers with your list of names of who is good and who is bad. Until I disagreed with you I was on the good list, as soon as I didn't buy your crap I am on the bad list. Where do you get off? Where do you even think people care about what list they are on of yours. Are we all 15 year olds here? Give me a break.

---

I want to see slalom grow. I think this past seaosn was an interesting on seeing the European and American slalom scenes come together at times yet still remain independent and showcasing differnet skillsets and riding styles. Slalom needs outlets for many areas of the sport...from tight slalom to super giant slalom to banked slalom to even park slalom. I think there are organization out there starting to showcase this. The more areas of slalom and types of riding there ar ethe better for the sport. That doesn't mean however that you have to participate in EVERYTHING or agree with EVERYTHING. We are adults here (right?) and we should know that the sport is never going to go 100% in the direction we personally might want, nor should it actually.

The slalom world is becoming more interesting by the day lately. More options for racers. More racers from other parts of the world racing. That is so cool.

Mr HYPOCRITE-Can you read? John, Vlad, Sloppy and UR13 spend time CRITICIZING racers, courses, promoters and events of events that they did not attend, I COMPLIMENTED Pierre for what a great job he did making it possible for all 120 people to race, due to time constraints he changed the format. Its about being Positive and seeing the good in things to help grow slalom world wide, What good does it serve for people to criticize things they had no part of?

If you want to criticize an event and the people that put them on, then show up and partake in them, being a monday morning quarterback that wasnt even in or at the game is foolish, arrogant and shows a lack of professionalism that is so rapant in this sport by a chosen few bitter biased irrelevent people.

At this point all these people do is cast the first stone and bare false witness on people that are trying to support, promote and help further the growth of slalom.

Is this what slalom needs?

So who is the Hypocrite Mr Hypocrite?

GAO: Pentagon sold biolab gear
06:04 PM MST on Monday, October 6, 2003

CNN Report
WASHINGTON -- The Defense Department sold equipment to the public that can be used for making biological warfare agents, according to a draft report by the General Accounting Office. The Defense Department agency responsible for the sale of excess property to the public, the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service, halted the sale of such items September 19 while the practice is reviewed. "Many items needed to establish a laboratory for making biological warfare agents were being sold on the Internet to the public from DoD's excess property inventory for pennies on the dollar, making them both easy and economical to obtain," the GAO draft report said. "As requested, GAO established a fictitious company and purchased over the Internet key excess DoD biological equipment items and related protective clothing necessary to produce and disseminate biological warfare agents." The GAO is the investigative arm of Congress. A congressional source said the GAO front corporation was able to buy evaporator, incubator and centrifuge equipment that can be used to produce biological warfare agents. It also bought 300 to 400 protective suits required for the production of biological agents, the source said. The fictitious GAO company spent "a little over $4,000" for equipment that the Defense Department originally bought for some $46,000, according to the source and the report. "That's less than 10 cents on the dollar," the source said. Much if not all of the equipment sold to GAO investigators is available to the public at full price on the open market, the source said, but "we certainly don't need DoD to be a discount shop for potential bioterrorists." He conceded that "only nominal controls" are now in place to prevent the sale of such items to the public, but at least those sales are "not with the U.S. government seal of approval [and] for pennies on the dollar." The GAO investigation was requested by the House Subcommittee on National Security, Emerging Threats and International Relations, which is a unit of the Government Reform Committee. "According to the GAO, due to poor controls, there is little assurance excess [chemical-biological] equipment has not already fallen into the wrong hands," a subcommittee statement said. The statement said some of the protective suits "had previously been identified by DoD as defective," but they "were still circulating in the surplus supply chain." An unknown number of defective suits were issued to state and local law enforcement agencies before being returned to the Defense Department to be disposed of, according to the statement. The congressional source said those suits should not have been resold under any circumstances. The subcommittee will hold a hearing on the matter Tuesday with testimony from Pentagon officials, GAO investigators and a chemical-biological weapons expert. Vlad has insulted just about everybody of late, what does he know about the European Championships, what somebody told him? so now he is an authority on it?, what about Morro Bay, he can explain the outcome of the worlds and he wasn’t even there, He has portrayed himself to be nothing but an arrogant bitter person that knows very little about slalom but what he reads on the Internet, Why cant he explain his piss poor performance at Breckenridge? He likes to live on his big slalom triumphs against lesser known racers, whoopee dooooo!!!!!!! Is this the Zenith that Mollica was talking about? when push comes to shove and he has to race against the big kids he gets his fanny spanked and sent home, whats his excuse? it was the promoters, the courses, the other racers, he broke a nail whatever blah blah blah.

How about his trying to talk Luca out of coming to the US, telling him it would be a mistake! Whats with that! Whats with the small minority of racers flogging a dead horse(ISSA), Thank God that Pierre Samray did what was best to accommodate 120 racers and change the format of racing, so it didn’t favor a chosen few, to bad! Thanx to FCR for being the first and foremost racing promoter in this rebirth of slalom, they have takin chances and made decisions that have made a bitter few unhappy, the rest of us are just glad that we have a first rate promoter putting on world class races.

According to Vlad he is 1 of 3 people that can explain what happened at races he wasn’t even at, How Arrogant is that!
And to say that there is only 20 people that know what they are doing in slalom, what a slap in the face to the thousands of slalom enthusiast world wide. His friends are calling him on his arrogant attitude, I hear from people that he emails about slalom, what do they have to say about him?, the same that his other friends are saying "What an Arrogant BLEEP”

I only call em as I see em John, I see people (Vlad, you and UR13) criticizing Promoters, Courses and events that you didn’t even attend. You call yourself an "evangelist of slalom", where were you all weekend at the Worlds? Tending to John Gilmours needs........, Don’t remember you picking up any cones for all the other racers, don’t remember you setting up the events each day with all the other racers, don’t remember you tearing down at the end of each day with all the other racers, I figured being the evangelist of slalom you are you would have at least been on hand to partake in the kids racing in the mornings, no didn’t see you there either, It was funny to hear people all weekend say “wheres the Evangelist”, Talk is Cheap John, the crap that you guys spew does nothing to better slalom.

You guys have all become a sour grapes club of whiners. What makes you guys think that the ISSA can make slalom better? All the rules and regulations are a waste of time, Slalom is simple and Gary Cross said it best, “Lean Left Go Left”.

At least you showed up to race at the worlds John, I’ll give you that, where was the mouth that roared? Sulking with his tail between his legs because his slalom god didn’t heed his words and decided to come and race with the best.

Damn good thing that the East Coast has Hard-core racers like OHM, Parsons, TK, Tway, and EMoore that have the balls to put it on the line. Otherwise the world would just look at you guys like they do Vlad, UR13 and Sloppy, a few disgruntled slalom nobodies trying to make a name for themselves behind a keyboard criticizing those that are out promoting slalom.

You guys can talk all the crap you want about the promoters that are putting on races world wide, The rest of us will support them and one another to help nurture slalom along.

Best line heard at the Worlds from a spectator no less.

You went from the "east coast Darling" to "America's most hated racer" between Breckenridge and September. Are you even a real skateboarder, or just a tight slalom racer. See, we skate. We love it. We have fun skating.

Come on down off your 70's sweatsuit cloud or go away. There are not too many people you haven't offended the past month. Your Zenith was Local and Short-I hope it was sweet.

Second Mustard Gas Leak Detected At Pueblo Depot

Workers Trying To Isolate Leak Of Blister Agent

POSTED: 9:56 a.m. MDT October 2, 2003
Another mustard gas leak has been detected at the U.S. Army Pueblo Chemical Depot. Officials said the latest leak was detected around noon Wednesday inside one of the chemical storage structures in the depot's chemical storage area.

A charcoal filter unit was put on the igloo vent to clean the air and will remain on the structure until the leak is isolated. Pueblo officials still haven't found the source of another leak that was detected on Sept. 18. Workers will attempt to determine the source and isolate the leak. It started in a separate igloo from Wednesday's leak. Sulfur mustard, commonly called mustard gas, can cause skin burns and blisters, especially around sweaty parts of the body. Mustard gas can cause skin burns and blisters, especially around sweaty parts of the body. The Pueblo Chemical Depot is located approximately 14 miles east of the center of the city of Pueblo in Pueblo County and about 2 miles north of the Arkansas River. The installation encompasses approximately 23,000 acres and includes a variety of buildings, structures and undeveloped areas. The depot's primary function is the storage of chemical weapons. The weapons have been housed at the depot for more than 50 years.
