Megatron Trucks
On 12/16/2007 Shaun wrote in from United Kingdom  (82.6.nnn.nnn)

I have a set of signature Megatron Mark Baker trucks i am thinking of auctioning does anybody know what they might be worth as i do not want to let them go too cheap.
Regarding the clear red star trac kryps. I am sure that in 77/78 my next door nieghbour had a new set of these 60mm but you know how it is after all this time i may be confusing them with the clear orange ones.

Peter Thanks for the info on skateboardzoo.com when will you be doing the trucks and decks???

Red Star-Trac Kryptonics
On 12/16/2007 mad-rat wrote in from United Kingdom  (85.210.nnn.nnn)

Yup, they look deep red. Cant argue with that.

I have seen Bottle Greens go very very dark over time; to a clear brown.
Could these be Clear Orange Star-Trac's that have gone deep red over time?

Trouble is though, I do have some old used clear orange ones and they have not gone off.

However, skateboard wheels seem to keep their colour very well if they have been kept in the dark; they 'deepen' when left exposed to light.
I have sets of clear orange that have been kept in the dark and they are as perfect as they day they were poured.

Maybe these are oranges that have deepened having been left exposed to light?

The mystery is not solved methinks; we need some other evidence or firm proof that they did pour some clear red Star-Tracs. Anyone else ever seen any?

These are the rare 40ft diameter green ones that NASA commissioned Kryptonics to make for the prototype Space Shuttle crawler vehicle back in 1976. NASA went for caterpillar tracks in the end, so these were never used; thats why they are still so shiny.
I have them installed in my back garden.

Kryptonic Star-Tracs
On 12/15/2007 mad-rat wrote in from United Kingdom  (85.210.nnn.nnn)

Yeah I have a set of NOS Black C-65's, I also saw a set of white c series on Ebay last year, I was amazed. They looked great. I guessed they were test sets or something where they just didnt bother to add any dye?
Anyway, I'd love a set.

I too have a set of Green clear Wide-Tracs. They are not as minty as Laurie's set, but they took almost 10 years of searching!

Star Tracs
On 12/11/2007 G wrote in from United States  (68.231.nnn.nnn)

Red Clear Star Tracs? That's a new one on me. I did a ton of testing for Kryptonics back in the day in Boulder CO. I do not recall any clear red 1st gen wheels. laurie18, are you the one that posted a while back regarding the w-i-d-e tracs in green. I think I spoke with you regarding those. They did make some oddities however that slipped past us test pilots and made their way to the left coast (the C series in black were such an animal).

Laurie,

I saw the auction you talk about and I put them down as clear Orange ones that had simply 'gone off' over time.

Are they really red !!! :-0
Bugga, somethin else I need for the collection then.

Some people have been asking why my site is down.
Well its still there, but the domain name has become unpointed to the site.
I'm in the process of trying to get it all moved to some other web space (for free hopefully) and then to get skateboardzoo.com pointed at it again. Its all getting a bit technical. Any help is appreciated, just send an email to admin at skateboardzoo.

Anyway, here's how to get to my Kryps page: http://www.btinternet.com/~p5/skateboards/wheels/kryptonics.htm

Kryptonics Star-Trac Wheels - Raised Lettering
On 12/9/2007 laurie18 wrote in from United Kingdom  (86.16.nnn.nnn)

I have been collecting early Kryptonics wheels for years and thought I had seen everything.I knew the raised letter wheels were produced in clear green and amber and solid red/orange, blue and yellow.
I recently saw a skateboard on ebay with clear RED (like Sims Pure Juice)70mm raised letter Kryptonics. I been in contact with the auction winner who actually has another set in the same color. I have some odd colored single wheels but have never seen them in clear red.
Does any one out there know anything about these wheels? were they prototypes? team issue only?
Would appreciate any info.
Would love to buy an unused set or even a single wheel - willing to pay top price or trade.
Will post a picture when I can.
Thanks laurie

I gave him a pretty indepth email about
adding pictures, giving a better description,
less fluff in his description..... Especially
if selling a skateboard for $200. Which is
very expensive for a vintage deck on ebay...
Well We gave him our best thoughts and ideas
on ole NCDSA.com Hope it was helpful to him
and his selling future :---------) :-------)

ebay
On 12/7/2007 SamG wrote in from United Kingdom  (217.42.nnn.nnn)

It does seem a little expensive, Kevin, but you might want to use parts of this board to finish a cherished restoration project, so it's horses for courses. The trouble is that you cannot actually see the trucks, and the wheels are out of focus. It is therefore difficult to gauge wear and tear. The deck looks like no classic shaped Fibreflex that is typically recognised, so is not immediately sought after. Is it possible to contact the seller for further images and possibly view the item more clearly? That might help you make a more gauged assessment.

Another option might be to check out retro completes from online websites such as sk8supply, tailtap, octane sports, skateboards of choice etc if you are seeking a board that will be put to hard usage.

hooker skate board
On 11/21/2007 Phil White wrote in from United States  (69.15.nnn.nnn)

I am siting here looking at a Hooker skate board, yellow, blue and white top, white underside, Hooker stamps on the slides for the trucks, universal grabber wheels on the front (loose bearings) and universal big grabber wheels on the back. The tension strip also is stamped with the hooker logo. I need to find someone who can tell me what this is worth, or how they might recommend I find that out. I can provide a photo if needed.

front kicks
On 10/17/2007 herbn wrote in from United States  (71.125.nnn.nnn)

if you go back to those days there was more double kick stuff,ie the aluminum boards i thick that was because when they punched the kicktails intosoft aluminum they wanted to balence the mold out. Not to many wood boards though, a kid in my town made a banzai copy out of wood with a second smaller wedge on top of the normal tail wedge and a wedgr up front too. If lonnie toft had stuck with his front kicktail idea into the Sims super ply era, a double kick 8.5 would be a very modern classic. It's hard to see the shapes of the boards but are lonnie toft's early "adjustatrak" boards double kicks?

modern retro
On 10/13/2007 k-lee wrote in from United States  (71.222.nnn.nnn)

BDS makes some pretty cool modern retro wheels too, less lathing needed. You could just make the Dub-Cons flat-backed and the outer radius would already be there. And the urethane formula on the softer duros isn't half bad either. Just stay away from 87a.

Emotion
On 10/4/2007 PSR wrote in from United States  (75.68.nnn.nnn)

I wish I'd been on the ball and put some beer-money towards a set or two of Emotions. I recall their 'pool' wheel, the Quix, was great in damp areas, though it was a tad slow. Maybe adding some 'v' grooves (f-1 tire style) would've made for a 'rain tire'?

i think it was maybe 5 or 6 years ago i had a set of the emotion reissues come and go in my shop. They were damn close to the original, maybe they were bigger ,they had the look down perfectly, like they found the last batch and went back into business for a second.nI kind of like the ojIII for a modern/retro cruzer, red avalons do a good impression of sims comp, i think i remember seeing reissues of the original white bones too

Snakin' it
On 10/3/2007 PSR wrote in from United States  (75.68.nnn.nnn)

Paul, the idea I had with the No-Skools was kinda a combo of Powerflex 9's, Crossbones, SuperGators (or Crockrocks), and the not-as-old Kryptonics CSi. C.C. had plenty of other input, from here, as well as personally from a bunch of other good, better known skaters... Still, there's enough of what I had asked for in No-Skools that I'm happy that an idea or two of mine got put into them, and even more stoked that skaters from all over have found them to be great wheels.

You're right on the width/height of Snakes vs. Tunnels. I didn't think of it until a bit ago, but Avalon/HotSpots with the lip radiused, and the back trimmed flat would be be really close to Snakes, Conical versions of Snakes would take trimming Tunnels to reproduce. I'd guess you could take Flashbacks to a Lathe and make a Comp II or Snake pretty easily, and the green color would be pretty damn close, too!
BTW, I've still got one set of green Snakes, and used to have 4 sets of Comp II's (White, Yellow[conical], Red and Green), as well as Gyros. Luckily, Gyro's are back, aluminum hub and conical!

Snakelike?
On 10/3/2007 PaulW wrote in from United Kingdom  (80.254.nnn.nnn)

The Snake was a tall wheel, the Tunnel kinda long. I'd say the ZigZag takes it. Of course, if you ALREADY have sets of SIMS Snakes in your stash, then you don't need to find an alternative ;)

Though personally, I skate the softer duros of NoSkoolz and like those over any other skatewheel on the planet. You "can't go back".

if you took those retros in 66mm trimmed off the back lip and rounded them just a bit and then put and maybe a bunch off sand and crazy glue in the bearings.

Sims Snakes Like

The closest to Sims snakes (i still have a set) you can find now would be the Retro Zig Zags by Abec 11 /Retro, they come in 66mm and 70 and in many duros, they are a lot better than the snakes by the way.
