Unanswered question,What was the biggest baddest Taperkick that Sims made? I know they used to make a 44 but as the decks became wider they cut back to 36. Like 36x10 might have been it ,44x9 would work was there a 44x10 and does anybody have one they want to sell?

If it was painted over,the old paint might show through ,if is was grey/silver with thin blue and yellow stripes it was definitely a madrid ,just from the drilling I would say it was a madrid ,I had one of those , I redrilled it to a longer nose , and actually found a tattered picture of me doing a frontside air on one of the halfpipes I used to ride back in the day. It vanished a few years later after I reassembled it with 215s and roadweapons ,I know who should know what became of it. I think Madrid made two lenghths it was either 36 inch concave 39 flat but I seem to remember my board being 42 inches flat with a real mellow kick.

Can be a Madrid,they used to make longboards when nobody else was.

I picked up an 1980s vintage longboard at the swap meet yesterday. It had been repainted, so I have no way of knowing who the original manufacturer was. I'm pretty sure it's 80s or early 90s vintage. It's real wide, 9 1/2 to 10 inches (sorry I forgot to measure the exact width). It has a kicktail, no concave, and the front truck mounting holes are only about an inch from the nose. It even has a couple of little holes from where one of those plastic nose protectors used to be. All of these things tell me that this is probably an 80s deck. The question is what kind is it? I know that only a handful of companies made longboards back then, Schmitt Stix, Santa Cruz, Powell, and maybe others. The deck is 39" long. So if anyone knows who was making a 39" longboard back then, please email me or post something here.
I'm thinking about restoring it. It needs restoration. The nose and especially tail are busted up pretty bad. I'm probably going to redraw the nose and tail and cut away the broken part. It would make it about an inch shorter, but if I redrill the truck holes, it probably wouldn't be too noticeable. It just would be nice to know what I'm working on. Thanks,

Truck and wheels are long gone, but back in the day it had trackers and red kryptos.
Flex..it had none since it is 3/4 in thick solid mahogany.
Sand in the varnish for grip. I'll try to get som pics later.
Have on old Oak Bahne as well, but it is a shorty.

I've been meaning to thank Jerry Norbury for his excellent photos of the original Strokers all my old mags only had the tiny Valsurf and other ads, with your picture I was able to recreate the classic with some security that the contraption would be usable ,its usable alright, so usable it was hard to go back to regular trucks,if your ever in the N.Y./N.J. area ,come by and check it out ,the board it like a fixture in my shop ,exept at nights when I take it to the hills. I dug out my stack of Skateboarders last night,after ride adrenalin insomnia. Looking a little more closly ,I got into reading this article about the Laguna Seca races ,Hutson won Coleman was there hands out front vs. hands back suddenly I saw the date of the race and it was twenty freakin years ago (the cover of the mag was missing so the age was not really obvious) man ,I man I think I'm old, nah I was two years old when I bought that mag, yeah right.

The original Kryptonics, with "Kryptonics Wheels" in raised letters were in these durometers :-
Red 78a
Blue 82a
Green 85a
They also made some ultra soft Yellows, I have some info on those somewhere, I read that they were designed to be slow for gracefull downhill cruising.

Who can post some information about the original durometer rating of the "first" Kryptonics (mid 1970's) ?
Series 1's, I remember came in Red, Blue and Translucent Green. Bearings flush with inside edge.
Sharp edges.
"Kryptonics" raised.
Series 2, brighter red, don't remember how the blue was ad a "hard" Slime green. Centered bearings.
rounded edges (still have my 70mm reds)
Kryptonics embossed.
Anyone remember?

Anyone remember the mag. with the glendora race ,or stand up slide turns, I seem to remember a sequence of somebody sliding around a corner at speed. The amount of coverage of that kind of downhill has been way to sparce. That Powell video with all the straight line slides is cool but I know I got ideas to slide corners from somewhere. If someone knows of a full on downhill section in any video put out at anytime please post it. Thanx.

 I just spent Saturday riding about on my G&S Fibreflex with Gold Gullwing Split Axles and Red 65mm Mk2 Kryptonics.
I've never had the chance to ride these wheels until this weekend, and they are everything they had been described. Fast, smooth, grippy and that lovely swooshy sound as you carve them hard. The Gullwings are fantastic, incredibly tight turns possible, yet quite stable at speed.
It took over 20 years for me get ride original Red Kryptonics, but I made it.
Have a picture of the nearest set-up I could find. This is a G&S Fibreflex with Gullwing Split Axles and Sims Bowlriders

Of course, I had the "Super Flyer" (It had a rubber "door-stop" brake - Super, right). Christmas 1977.
I had ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE how to get the damn thing moving (I was the first person to have one in the area).
I figured it out though:
- found a nicely sloping, smooth bit of path (had to sweep snow aside) and it ended in steps leading to a lake (ok sub-optimal in that respect)
- placed the board at top of path.
- took a good long run.
- jumped onto the board and screamed off down the path.
Think "running and sliding on ice" and substitute the Super Flyer and you'll get the idea.
It lasted about two or three months and I literally wore the wheels out. They must have lost about half the rubber in that period. Nasty trucks and no kicktail sealed it's fate.
The Flyer was actually totally crap.
I was hooked though...

My board has the same shape as the "Skuda 1 Fiberglass Deck" But my board is red, and its written "SKUDA" on the top (where the griptape usually are).
