Marc,
As in many things slalom technique (ie. foot placement) is driven by several factors:
1. Type of course. For me, the more traction is an issue (Giant Slalom, bad surface etc.) the more weight I like over the rear truck. In tight slalom you often see racers successful with a more forward or even parallel stance.
2. What type of board and wheel setup you are riding.
3. Body type/weight.
4. Personal style.
Adjusting stance and technique is one of the most important parts of any good practice session.

First off I think it is great that we have some world class riders participating in this form?
Technique question:
What are people using for rear foot technique?
I have seen people using their whole foot, and rider using just the ball of the rear foot.
what are the differences in riding? also are you placing your rear foot right over the rear truck or in front of it?

That was flat land slalome competition
So, we used start ranp only startting.
The size of ramp about 90cm high and 180cm long.

Did you check your installation?
After you downloaded it did you then install it?
Do you have the application Movieplayer on your system?
If yes, the movies will open from Movieplayer
If no, you probably didn't install the download file.

Now that inline skating is so popular, cheapo orange cones are quite easy to find in this area (SFO). The type I've seen in sporting goods stores are about 8" tall and are slotted so they collapse flat should you happen to fall on one. Courses are laid out with the help of some chalk to circle the base of each cone so they can be replaced in exactly the same spot after the inevitable downed cones.

Lono, the cones look like the little soccer ones that your coach used to have... Did you ever do the dribbiling drills thru the cones? You can prob get them at "Outdoor World" on 41st street, but I don't know...

yep, it's me! some of you know me from the downhill thing, some will probably remember me from slalom racing. I tend to be kind of a snob about slalom(as I'm sure we all are), learned on a Turner, never looked back. I hope to share in the postings here and again see slalom regain it's glory.

Man o Man! I can't believe it! an actual slalom site! thanks! it'll take me a while to read the postings so far, but i have more fun doing slalom than downhill although i'm known more for that. Also we are going to do a 4 race slalom series here in So Cal this summer. Very low key, but fun. anyone interested e-mail me to be on the list.

Yo Ruff,
1. Are you Mac or PC - Quicktime works fine on both, easier to install on Mac though, you may need to double check your installation.Be sure you open the application Movie Player that cis part of Quicktime and then open the movies from within Movie PLayer.
2. If you downloaded Quicktime 4.0, you should probably go back to Apple and download version 3.0 ( the link for 3.0 is at the bottom of the page). 4.0 is still a beta and has played hell with my video editing Mac system.
Let me know how things go, I'll help if I can.

They are from the movie "Freewheelin'". It's a Scott Dittrich film that was orignally released in the '70's featuring Stacy Peralta and had a lame story line that sort of followed throughout. It shows a bunch of the old La Costa slalom footage featuring Henry Hester, Vince Turner, Danny Trailer, Bobby Piercy, etc.pool footage with Mike Weed and Pipeline ( the orignal one, not the skatepark) footage with Waldo Autry and a bunch of cool Tom Sims longboard freestyle and hill crusing action.
The film was re-released in '88 by Santa Cruz, Dittrich shot two movies for them, Streets of Fire and Wheels of Fire.
I got my copy from Ebay and I'm sure there are still copies in older skate shops and maybe Santa Cruz still has copies.

Stacy is riding a yellow fiberglass Zepher with either Sure Grip or X-caliber trucks and either Cadillac or more likely Roller Sport racing slicks.
Pretty amazing that Stacy took 2nd that day on those wheels and trucks.
Danny Trailer was riding a G&S fibreflex with Tracker Full tracks nd Road Rider #4's.
