Classic is just a nice or proper name for buttboard.A type of spec class for laydown longboarding. description and pictures here. No pegs on this
A street luge can be with or without pegs... but the pegs/boom is really being phased out in popularity and performance... Start with pegless and you will not regret it..

Hey, your old coach here... Talk to the Roger's Brothers about a sled. They do great stuff, and they can make it to fit you perfectly. Oh, hey, and get some Good leathers, and pick your shoes (brakes) carefully!! I can't wait to see how fast you go, considering how fast you slalom!

Ryan, you'll have to Search for yourself... However, Luging is not a 'high cost' sport (unless you count Traffic Violations), as it's the Rail (board), safety gear (helmet, leathers, gloves) and Brakes (Shoes!). Costs for a complete set-up should be under 2 grand easily, with gas money to spare. A less-expensive, not-quite-as-fast alternative is 'Buttboarding, where the sleds are restricted in Length, width, simplicity-of-construction, wheel-sizing, and have no Footpegs. They're fast, but better on short hills. Otherwise, it's a nearly-identical sport, worth looking into if your hills are are less-than 2 miles long, or you're on a tight budget. I can't say whether GSI is still doing Luging Training, but they used to up in the White Mountains in New Hampshire. there are also some local groups in various areas, like So-Cal, Vegas, Oregon, South Carolina, and New England. I hope you get into it. It's been a fun sport for me for nearly 30 years, and I've only had 2-3 scars (one took my freckles off my arm) result in thousands of over-the-speed-limit runs. What you can descend without worry is amazing if you think like a Skateboarder, and is comparable to what Motorcycles could do 40 years ago in terms of handling. There's nothing quite like feeling the tarmac rush by, inches from your body, at a-mile-a-minute or faster! Good uck finding a goiod sled and gear!

I just got into college and we found it fascinating to go down hills on our skateboards. I was wondering how much a real luge board costs and where I might find one to purchase.

John Rogers took the number one qualifying spot for tomorrows IGSA North American Championship Street Luge race in San Dimas, CA. He was followed by Tyler Wendtland and Brent DeKeyser in second and third place respectively. All three riders qualified within .278 of a second of each other! Rob Ruhman and Justin Tolman rounded out the top five. In all 16 riders took qualifying runs in Street Luge.
The big story of the day was the trecherous Seismic Corner. The lugers were routinely being clocked at speeds in excess of 50mph upon entering the off camber, ninety degree turn. Nearly every rider tasted the straw bales with some notably huge offs by Waldo Autry, Brian Lee, Rick Wilson and Albert Takubarian. Fortunately none of the riders walked away with more than a few bumps and bruises. The course proved to be a big challenge for everyone today and really tested every ounce of their skill.
The action starts tomorrow with morning warm up runs beginning at 9:00am. The North American Championship Street Luge Race is scheduled to start at 1:30 pm. Admission to the park is $7.00 per carload. Admission to the event is free. For more information on the event or the IGSA, please visit www.gravity-sports.com.
