Anybody know of a good way to remove graphics from the side of a wheel without leaving big scratch marks on the side? Thanks

30 mph and heat

the problem is not so much with the wheel but with the bearings. The build up of heat can "burn out" the bearing causing it to lock-up and stop rolling -which is not good at 30mph+

I have a set of these wheels on one of my boards, and I ride em everyday. I really like em, haven't had any problems with em, though I haven't had a ton of experience with different types. But as a daily rider, for me, they've been fine. Carvin fat turns hasn't really been a problem, and I haven't really slid em, so i can't tell you that. People have just been talking about 9 Balls rippin up and stuff like that. I've had mine up around 25 - 30 several times, and never had any problems, but I don't get them that high all that often. Hopefully others can fill in my review if they've busted up on others or anything like that. Hope I helped at least a bit. Later.

this is in reply to bill clintons questions about those big spoked wheels a while ago, i own some of da b*tches! they look very cool, but they arn't actually that enjoyable to ride on after the novelty. the big treads on them cause ALOT of friction and slow you down a hell of a lot, also becasue they are so big, you have to bend down quite a way off your board to push which can be pretty tireing. they do make a cool vibrating noise and feel when you ride em fast. also i think they are better for longboard than short. i used them on short mainly so thats probably why i didn't get alot of speed up.(and they are real heavy to carry) but anywho, they are nice as a treat or in rain and on dry dirt. :)

I haven't seen this warning on my kryptos (70 mm classic red) Maybe that's because i bought those in france ?????? ;-)
Anyway i did melt one sector nine 9ball (65 mm) once but it was because the bearing were no good anymore so with the friction i got enough heat to melt urethane

Melting?

I think the urethane just breaks down under heat, or the nylon / urethane bond fails. Urethane is a thermoset so doesn't melt, and nylon 6,6 melts at 465 F. No way these temps are seen. I think the urethane / urethane is for a better bond, but probably slower since nylon is way stiffer to keep the bearings straight. Aluminum is really the way to go; stiff, won't melt, conducts heat away, and can be bonded to urethane big time, if done right (Kryptonics does this very well, though not in any commercial skate wheel). Cost is the issue.

30mph warning

The warning was placed on the wheels after Krypto was sued by a streetluger when they melted at high speeds (50+). You can ride these wheels faster than 30. But they do tend to melt on long fast runs. The weather also adds to the circumstances as well as doing slides on them.
The race core is better, but can still melt/delam. Its still a nylon core, the same in the hyper super mundos, livewire, etc. But dont be scared, its been streetlugers in the 70s that have done the dirty deed. Krypto is working on a urethane core like the exkate, to avoid future posibilities of delam/melting wheels.

the warning about going over 30 refers to the fact that 65mm & 70mm kryptos do not have a core that dissapates heat from the bearings (the 76mm do- which is why they are the only real race wheel that krypto makes). Other non-dissapating wheels would have the same problem.

I AM JUST GETTING INTO DOWN HILL RIDING AND I HAD A COUPLE OF SECTOR NINE WHELLS THAT CAME W/ MY BOARD. THEY RIPPED UP ON MY SECOND RUN. SO I REPLACED THEM W/ KRYPTOS. SOMEONE INFORMED ME THAT KRYPTOS WONT HOLD PAST 30MPH. IF THIS IS TRUE WHAT WHEELS SHOULD I GET SINCE I USUALLY PEAK AT 35MPH. I HAVE BEEN LUCKY SO FAR BUT I NEED TO TRUST MY BOARD IF I'M GOING TO PUSH 40, WHAT WHEELS HUG BUT HOLD UP. KRYPTOS DO GAIN SPEED QUIKER THAN MY NINE BALLS DID.

What would happen if I were to mix 76mm kryptos with turbos/cherry bombs to get a match of speed and stick?(kryptos at the back for stick through thos rough corners and turbos/cherries on the front for speed through the straights)

Sounds cool to me, let me know how it works out. You could even "condition" them, (like the boardcandy.com guy does) to get more grip and they would still be huge. let us know how it works out, if you do it. cheers

beach cruiser wheels 110-125mm

saw some 125mm razor wheels the other day and was thinking that on a properly built deck - something like a landyachtz - to lower center of gravity, you could make a deck for long distance cruising such as a beach strand ride of 10-15 miles wher could could really get some speed, roll over anything and cruise like blader...any thoughts?

65mm wheels to avoid wheelbite

On 1/20/2001 Nic

I notice a lot of people talk about using 65mm wheels to avoid wheelbite on wider boards(as opposed to 70mm). It seems theres not much price diffrence in price between the two. Heres a suggestion, Get 70mm wheels, treat yourself to a few days of crazy sliding, making sure you rotate the wheels corner to corner if they start to cone. Now you have the 65mm wheels you desire and have had a few days of great fun sliding as a bonus.

If several of us are interested we could "get together" on a wholesale order from Yak. Email me if you want in on it. They also have a couple of krypto models and powerpaw aluminators.

Are they the ones from Yak Research, also availible from skates away? If so they reckon they,re pretty hard to get the bearings seated properly. They also have non-aluminum hubbed ones for a much cheaper price, I wonder what the diffrence in the ride is. I,ve been pretty keen on ordering some of these for quite some time. Has anyone tried em?

Those are the wheels from an exkate electric skateboard. They use the same bearing/axle setup as dirtboards. Wendel keeps them around to use with dirtboards on the street for demo purposes. If you look at the inside edge of the hubs you can see the molded in ring gear that has been machined down.

i sawthis board with wheels that were the coolest things i've ever seen. they looked just like exkate cherries, but the 'than was much brighter red. the wheels were also huge, at least 100mm, they had the same hub like a exkate wheel, but it was to big to be any wheel i know of that they make...any body out there know this wheel?

Does anyone know what the size of the inside hole(where the bearings go) is on those inflatible dirtboard wheels. Do they fit 608 bearings?
