Paul, drop me a line and I'll tell you what I think of OTANGS and FOR PRESIDENTS for slalom...As I sell them people may think I'm biased in my reviews, but I cant help feeling they arnt used enough by slalomers because the other two brands Abec and Seismic are more 'into' the slalom scene.....
I find the duros absolutely brillinat for the rougher surfaces, they ride as fast and grippy as the other brands, but feel softer underfoot.
The 75mm Orange would be my choice for a Big GS no matter what the surface.

Randal trucks, or Randal style trucks arnt brilliant for pools, as they turn too much, partly becuase they are designed to, but also because when kickturning the leverage of the width of the truck and the in built turnabilty makes for a difficult ride (in a bowl...on th estret they carve brilliantly). The truck will tend to squash too quickly. Perhaps for carving only, but not for kickturning/grinding.
People do have success changing the rear truck to something more standard like a tracker or Indy, retaining the Randal up front. That retains turning but stiffens up the rear.
Id look at the Rainskate range of wheels or Abec 11 No Skools, but cant help feeling wheel choice is always a compromise....the smooth pool walls are different from streets, but something around 87a durometer would be a good compromise.

pools will like harder wheels, down town cruising and laying down carves prefer softer wheels. I had a set of Gum Balls I really liked. maybe some Abec 11 strikers in 81 or 83a would be best for all that put together. maybe someone like herbn or PSR will answer you're question, they've got more knowledge in that area than I do.

We had a good crowd for Martin Drayton's Return to Utah last Sunday.
Several Guys Rocked up on these Wheels from Loaded.
It is rare for me to get happy about any product apart from Lazer Trucks.
These Wheels really are Pride of A Dog's lower Anatomy!

I may be mistaken, but at the Euros, I believe Henrik was running wheels that looked a lot like Seismic Black Ops,
Dom on ZZ, and Ramon doing slide stops in the shut-down area on orange wheels that looked and rode a lot like ZZ.
What color and shape are these new gogonauts?

top results at the worlds and the euros scored by dom,henrik,and ramon have been achieved on the up and coming GOGONAUT wheels.
they are fast and they grip like hell and they have over a year extensive testing by top riders on their back.

On Sept. 7, in Beaverton, Oregon, Michael Dong set a new CyberSlalom World Record on the 73mm Seismic Speed Vents (one direction) and the 69mm Seismic Hot Spots (other direction), for the first official sub 8-second time ever (7.969 seconds).

Exactly what records have been set using black oops?
I have a set and they gripped like nothing else the first week and are as fast as ZZ. However since I pay for my wheels I'd like them to stick next week as well and, well they didn't do it for me. So if you like some hot spots I have a set for sale blue/purple/gray. I'll give you a good price. If you are fast I'll throw in some of my Manx wheels as well.

The "Hiss"!! There were, just before the Big Red Kryptos, two wheels that had a 'hiss to 'em; Pacers in light-lime-green, and Sims Snakes, also in green, but later in white... My Pacers were my fave wheel (and luckily, I own 1 set of the 'bone white' Pacers that just barely predate the greens), turned my world on it's ear, as I could suddenly ride down hills that had 'rough' tar (in Vermont, trust me, smooth roads are RARE!), but moreover, I could keep my speed (with no 'numb toes'!). Then i got a neighbor's Red Kryptonics, and was really blown away by the resilience and grip. Heck, I could even ride on packed Dirt with those!. But I got Snakes just a few weeks before (thanks Dad!), and I was pretty happy with those. I kept them, rode 'em hard, but they survived. Riding with JG in Boston, probably '89-'90 or so, I broke out my Fiberflex, replete with Trackers and Snakes, and pushed hard into the sub-6-ft. course John had set down by the Charles River. John actually Heard me coming, and said, "Snakes!" just as I got passed him. The "Hiss" is that distinctive, riders like JG can tell just by the Sound that those wheels are Stickin'!! I've only been on one set of 'Black Ops' Seismic wheels, and it was tough telling if they were actually faster than Zig-Zags by that, but seeing how many new records have been made in Slalom This Year, on Seismic Wheels, I think the proof is in the numbers, if not the sound.

I became a low-rolling resistance wheel junkie in the late 1970's when I stepped off of Road Riders and onto the then new Kryptonics Star-Tracs. Man, I can still remember the distinctive 'hisssss!' those original red Kryps made rolling down the road! Since then I've been on a private crusade to find and ride the skateboard wheel with the best roll.
While not a comprehensive list, my trek took me through V12 N-Gens in the late 1990s, to select wheels from Kryptonics, Hyper, 3dm and ABEC11, culminating with the the ABEC11 Reflex formula Zig Zags. Good, yes.. for their time.
But there's a new sheriff in town and his name is Black Ops.
I just bought a set of Seismic Hot Spots in the translucent orange color, i.e. 78A. These are poured in Seismic's new Black Ops urethane formula and they are the best rolling wheel I've ever been on. Smooth as butter and grippy as all get out, too. Thus far I've only ridden them on a grungy old set of $10 Pleasure Tool bearings and they're still amazing! I can't wait to clean my ceramic bearings and run them with the Black Ops.. that will be the ultimate.
A most interesting sensation with these wheels is when you are slowing down over a flat area. They slow at a predictable rate but then they hit a certain speed and it's as if you just rode off the asphalt and onto a linoleum floor.. they want to keep going and going! LDP fans are going to love these, especially in the larger diameters.

David - I started using Bertz wheels on the recommendation of Kenny Mollica, and I love them for concrete parks. Go to youtube and search for "Jeff Kasson". Turn up the volume and you can hear the wheels screech on a bert slide. I like them better than Powell bowl riders.

Hello,
My name is Gordon, and although a Canadian resident since late 1979, I was born in Durban, South Africa and I lived there until I was 10 years of age (1977).
Simply put. I'm going out on a limb here. I have in my possession an old skateboatd that was bought as gift for me by my father. If memory serves me correctly, it was from a skateboard shop in Durban, and I'm assuming the shop must have belonged to "Snowy Smith", as the wheels are labelled "Snowy Smith Mk II", and it comes complete with half-moon trucks and what I believe to be sealed German bearings. (The deck was replaced, but the wheels, trucks etc. are original and in good working order.)
Although this is all very hazy, I have some recollection of being in the shop as a child, seeing wheels of all sizes (Mk I, II and III...all of which looked like progressively bigger, oversized cotton reels.), and being awed by a whole lot of skateboarding enthusiasts.
Anyway, if you know anything about Snowy Smith, please let me know. Aside from a box of old marbles, this board is all that I have left of SA, and I'd like to know a little more about it. (There is more to the story, as my interest would not have been peaked had I not been in a local clothing store and overheard the manager discussing a movie, The Lords of Dogtown, during which he made mention of "Snowy Smith". I was surprised, interrupted, clarified what he had said, and told him that I had a Snowy Smith skateboard. He freaked out and demanded to see it.)
