i ride the "earthboard 9ple" with comp bindings.its a good set up for sk8parks because u can get your feet in the binding fast.

to stop on a earthboard you just do a big old power slide just like you would on a snow board. kneel down, grab the tow side rail, and turn hard on your heel side. once you get sideways but a hand behind you incase your butt touches down.

Check out the trails directly across the street from the Greek theater. Weekdays the park is empty and there are some short but hardpacked dirt trails close to parking. Good luck.

the turfboard is kind of the joke of the mountainboard comunity. don't blow all your money on one of those things. they look cool, but that is about it. in all the races i've been in, and all the events i've gone to, nobody rides turfboard.

NorCal Bros unite! I want in. Sounds like fun. The Dirtheads will always be a major part of NorCal dirt soul and pride, but fresh blood is needed to keep the "demo" and "sessions" happenin. Havin a cool group to ride with always draws in new heads cause we'll have so much fun. Yo Mark, how are those ShockTrucks holding up? I'm interested in their durability, cause they ride goos but have yet to prove themselves in the long haul. I've been riding my NPD STOMPER with the same trucks for over a year with no problems. Let me know if any rides are planned, I'll try and show up with my NPD off-road quiver.

Did some quick research on the wheel alternatives - I knew there were composite wheels out there for mtn. bikes but wasn't sure about bmx, though knew that there used to be some (mag wheels, etc.) Bikepro.com has the Spin brand of composite wheels for $400. For some reason I think that's even more pricey than the atb wheels... Anyway, a bit price prohibitive.... I'll keep looking.

Jesse - thanks for the extra info on the dirtsurfer. I think as soon as I gather some $$ I'm going to order one. Being able to ride one when the pavement is wet is key, as that is the case more often than not where I live. Hey one more question that one of my friends had that wants to order one too - how close are you actually to the wheels? Have you ever gotten yourself caught in the spokes or something crazy like that? Plus the wheels are sort of close to your legs as well. I guess the back one you have the brake mechanism blocking you from the wheel..... Anyway, thanks again

Yes. they are 20" bmx tires (at least they look like that, and the dirtsurfer rep from australia told me they were)

The dirtsurfer I bought does have quick release front and back. However, I think the current version may NOT have quick release. Or, it may be an option. Also an option now is to purchase it with knobbier tires, or slicker all around ones.

As mentioned above, I believe you can prefer knobbier tires, although I don't know if the bearings are truly sealed for serious wet activities. The benefit of course is that you can get your own tires where/when you want, and perhaps even have a quiver: pavement tires, mud tires, etc.
>3. Speaking of wet, can you ride it in the wet? As it stands now I can't ride my regular skate in the rain, so being able to ride the dirtsurfer on wet pavement is really important to me.
"Yes" and "no." You can ride, and, just like a bmx bike, you can get fine traction on wet asphalt, other than a few slips. However, just like bike-caliper brakes, when they get wet, the brakes are USELESS. For example, when careening down dew-covered early morning grassy hills: the breaks do not exist. Again however, traction on wet surfaces is the same as w/ a bmx/mountain bike.
>4. Do the wheels seem to be pretty durable, or do you think you would need to true them frequently?
They do seem durable, but, I have ridden it now 15-20 hours, and I just noticed a few slightly bent spokes. Hopefully this wont be too much of a problem. Perhaps there are some kind of 3-spoke plastic wheels I can get for the tires that won't need truing. I'm not a bmx-er so I don't really know. Anybody know?
I'd suggest the all purpose tires. They have the knobbies on the sides, for better grip when carving offroad on hills, but also have the "slick" center of the tire, for smooth rolling on pavement.

OTHER DIRT SURFER FEEDBACK I CAN OFFER SO FAR...
1. Because of the big tires, using it skateboard-push style, you can really get a good cruise on just one push. Also, pebbles, ruts, and minor road obstructions do not make riding wobbly/uncomfortable/uncontrollable as riders probably would find with small-wheeled mountain boards. Like the web site states, it is true: the greater the speed, the greater the stability.
2. Going down hills, I've needed really wide hills, so that I can decellerate by carving far and wide. Slalom style carving is thus far near impossible, perhaps because of the long wheel base. What ends up happening is I just go bombing straight down the hill, at an ever increasing speed, until I finally have to ditch.
3. I'm getting ready to hook it up to a kite for some land mountain board surfing. I can fly a 1Meter 4 line stunt kite just fine. I'm thinking of a 5 meter as a great all around landboarding kite. Anyone have experience with these? Rammed air vs. inflatable? Brands: F1, Advance, jojo, etc? Comments? recommendations? cheap ones available? used/new?

His board and the X-board and Grassboard look really cool as well, but I think there's something to be said for being able to replace wheels/tires without having to special order (assuming this is the case). Appreciate your answers.....
