I was up in SLO this weekend promoting the May16th flatland contest. That went very well. The shops all posted the flyers and the skate types were all into the contest. It should be a good turn out.
I would like to see at least ten skaters in our user friendly masters division!

Sasha Rules! We had our 1st weekday freestyle gathering yesterday. Sasha brings out this small freestyle board...flat...no nose...so ...she ends up riding my SkateKings deck since its more like a mini street deck. Next thing you know she's rolling with speed and doing 1/2 kickflips to casper and various kickflips. In my opinion Sasha is one of the best all-around skateboarders.

IMHO-I think one cover is enough...Folks are gonna think CW is trying desperately to copy Juice-since they just came out with three covers...which I thought was kinda pointless anyways.
I say: one big skatelegend interview and one big skatelegend cover per issue or things will start to get confusing.
When you ran the Jay Smith cover and interview and had an interview with Duane in the same mag-they kinda took away from each other...one skatelegend per mag would be the call-otherwise it just seems less focused and less attractive when you have more than one-it also makes the skatelegend feel a bit more important, therefore, feeling better about things in general...
I wish CW success with the 2 covers idea, and fully support them-just wanted to let them know that some might see it as a marketing stunt.

Bob -- on your mag article research -- have you checked with Powell/Skate One? They are based there and of course have a long history. Assume you have checked with M. Brooke too since he's been down that same road writing his two books. Best of luck.

The HB Jam was great! Nice to see such a variety of skaters and bikers of all ages. Thanx to Richy and Maria for the food and drinks. Thanx to Dan Gesmer form Colorado and Danial Trujillo and his two brothers from Nevada for making the trip. Thanks to Rene Carrasco and Dale Smith for keeping us stoked.
ATTENTION: I need historical information, from the 1950's to the present, on all forms of skateboarding in the central coast area, Ventura to Cambria, for an article I'm writing for a large format newsprint freebie surf and youth fashion oriented magazine called Blue Edge. This will be the first of two articles on skateboarding for this publication, if the responce is good I will be asked to do more and it may develop into a regular feature assignment for me. Article size is 750 words.
I'm looking for names of pioneers, early skate spots and roads, early companies, team travel and adventures, skateparks and photos etc. This article is due Monday!
Thanx, steelwheel Bob 805-964-5208 bobstaton@hotmail.com Back to top

One of the coolest things in skateboarding is the long friendships you have over the years - with people who share the same STOKE that you have in Skateboarding !
Rene' Carrasco with FELLOW 1970'S HOBIE PRO SKATEBOARD TEAM MEMBER - Dale Smith @ the H.B. FLATLAND FREESTYLE JAM.
- - - Richy C., and Steve Evans - were also on that prestigious skateboard team back then ! { -I think we're lookin' at 26 + years ago ! ...whew ! }

John Ravitch spotted again doing crazy footwork and kickflips yesterday @ Rengstorff park session. He claims he's a little rusty and it's been since the Cow Palace Days since he rode flatland, yeah right. John brought in more pics from da day, funny stuff. HC now has a primo slide deck, will he get up in time on sunday mornings or will he continue the Sleeping Beauty routine. The Proffessor ( formerly known as Sgt. Holl ) spin #'s increase every week. while still raving about his new vacuum OJ got for him. House cleaning tips, and rail tricks every sunday. Mrs. Proffessor came by with snacks for all. Thank's . OJ is now sponsored by a major corparation ( team uniform and all ) . Skate on.

About a year ago, a young fella called me up out of the blue { from LAS VEGAS } - to tell me he met someone at a skatepark in Ventura wearing a SK8KINGS T-shirt, who knew the Carrasco Brothers.
The person he met there was "Touchdown" Tommy Edwards from Sasquatch Skateboards. Tommy gave this young fella my phone number.
Well, this young fella introduced himself as Daniel Trujillo. He asked me questions about freestyle - and I figured this kid is STOKED about freestyle skateboarding, so I mailed him a copy of The Concrete Wave Skateboard History book, and some Longskate.com stickers.
I told him to practice AND WEAR SAFETY GEAR - - - and a year later here he is at H.B. FREESTYLE JAM in person - - - - - ALL THE WAY FROM LAS VEGAS, to freestyle and jam with all these cool people that come out to Huntington Beach for this event ! -Kinda cool huh ?
To Daniel and all the young people that are freestyling out there - KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK ! YOU ARE the FUTURE of Freestyle Skateboarding !
Daniel Trujillo ALL THE WAY FROM LAS VEGAS @ the H.B. JAM - 3/28/04 !
...MORE OF MY "H.B. JAM" PHOTO'S LATER TODAY @ www.sk8kings.com
PHOTO: by Rene' "Cannonball" Carrasco !
{ I was @ THE JAM early - but went over to SSS to slalom with Evans, Maysey, Kaelon, and Rick Ick. { see "Mike Mayseys" forum on NCDSA for photo's }
THEN... I came back, but had to leave early to go to LAX, to get my sister-in-law.} GREAT seeing the regulars, but really cool seein' Mike Schwartz, Dale Smith, Dan Gesmer, my bro. Roger and his family, Bob Staton, - hope I didn't forget anyone.....so many cool people.

Overall -- GREAT turnout! Unofficial headcount of about 50 people -- maybe 20 more people who aren't in this group photo above. The Family is growing!
NEXT JAM -- The question of the day was "when's the next one?". Gotta check the calendars but kind of looking at Sunday April 25 on the quick view. Feedback???
Check out the Forum at SK8KINGS.COM for more pics, a killer video clip and the full report.

Wow! Freestyle kicks ass! The Sk8kings Jam was off the frickin' hook! Darryl Grogan is a total freak.....technically insane....Primo is the style/footwork/dance king.....Pope is just flat-out Gnarly......Cadillac was ripping.....and RichyC? Well, let's just say Richy is da' man! Even Dlae "Sausage Man" Smith styled up some groovy footwork. Wished I coulda stayed longer, got a few moves in-but suck compared to those guys. Great to see Kaelon too. Thanks again Sk8Kings for another successful flatland jam-FREESTYLE IS FUN, FUN, FUN!

Flatland Freestyle is Born!
Here is an email in responce to a TV producers request for info on WFSA events. It explains the difference between freestyle and flatland freestyle as the FSK8 series intends to apply it.
Greetings! Great to hear from you.
My current project, that is a spin off from the WFSA, is an Am contest flatland production association called FSK8. I am forming a team as we speak. I will have info on the team next week. They include crossover skaters that can do flatland, street, and high jump.
I don't know if this will mean anything to you but FSK8 will be introducing a new contest format called flatland freestyle. This is different from the traditional format of freestyle contests. The traditional way is to have two runs of 2 minutes each for each skater and set to music like ice skating. The FSK8 Flatland Freestyle way is to have heats of 5 or so skaters that skate together in a 5 min. jam qualifier round with the top skaters advancing to a finals round 5 min. jam. This is a common street contest format that we are adapting to attract a wider range of skaters.
( this is a concept that has been floating around for several years. Recently Nils and the WFSA LA and SPAUSA regulars have requested that I try the jam format. Gary Holl has favored this format as well and decided to launch this format with his contest in Mt. View but then decided to set his contest date back to later in the year, so Gary and I decided to introduce the flatland freestyle jam format at the SLO contest in May)
Should be fun!

Hey guys,
A bit of a preview of a little video project I've been doing. It's more an excersize in editing than anything.
Oddly, a lot of the high pitches in the music were erased during compression....
