What the !?!?
On 1/6/2004 Tone wrote in from (203.54.nnn.nnn)

Gudday all,

Just started a forum for Aussie slalom/old school skaters. While we are all glad that NCDSA is here doing their thing, it would be good to have a mail list for Ausiies to hook up, arrange some regular sessions and basiclly have a home on the web.

Have a look at http://www.groups.yahoo.com/groups/fatdeck/

Join up, post photos, organise a regular session in your locality. Get out there !

Tone.

Slalom Contest - Delayed
On 1/5/2004 Haggy wrote in from (220.240.nnn.nnn)

Hey Guys,
The slalom contest will be delayed. The original date was set for January 31 but I am going to delay until probably late February. This is to give me more time to raise interest in the event and secure sponsors. This also gives people some more time to practice!!!
I apologize if this gets in the way of anyone's plans.

For those of you who have been hearing about slalom and want to try it out (if you are in Sydney) I will be in Moore Park on Sunday from 1pm onwards. There is a great spot there and the likelihood of it being a bust is minimal. Look for me in the Northwest corner fo the park, corner of South Dowling St and Moore Park Rd. This is not far from Centennial Park and Fox Studios.
You can call me 0417 499404 if you want more details.

Hope to see some familiar faces there!

Slalom Contest
On 1/1/2004 Haggy wrote in from (203.51.nnn.nnn)

Welcome to 2004!
This is to officially announce the First Annual Southern Hemisphere Slalom Championships.
Events will include tight and giant slalom, as well as longboard slalom.
When: January 31, 2004 (time to be determined later)
Where: Sutherland bicycle track (Just south of Sydney, keep posted for information on how to get there)

Hopefully there will be some prizes from American manufacturers. I am waiting for responses.
Mark this date on your calendar. It will be a super event. Come on come all. Don't worry if you don't have a slalom board or a longboard. We will have plenty to go around.

Feel free to email with questions or input. The more of us that work together on this thing, the better it will be.

Peace, Happy skating!
Haggy

A good session was had on Sunday. It's a pretty good spot, unfortunately as Joseph mentioned, a bust. But we still had a good 2.5 hrs of good runs and fun.
Stay posted for information on the First Annual Southern Hemisphere Slalom Championships, scheduled for late January. Date coming soon.
In the meantime,

Sunday Slalom Sydney
On 12/16/2003 Paul Price - Fibreflex wrote in from (144.138.nnn.nnn)

Its SSS racing (as in Sunday 21 Dec Slalom in Sydney.
I just spoke to Haggy and we will bring our cones and slalom boards to St Marys Cathederal , College st, (next to Hyde Park and the Domain) Sydney City. Nearest Train station is St James or Circular Quay ferry. Start around 4pm onwards.
Come one, come all, bring cones and we may even have a bit of a race. The venue is fast paving stones in a square in front of the cathedral with a ramp start(!) due to the sloping architecture. A lot of kids skate here and say its not a bust. It will be good to meet the dudes involved in the Sydney Slalom scene. Free Fibreflex stickers for all!

Push Race
On 12/9/2003 Haggy wrote in from (203.76.nnn.nnn)

What do you guys think of a push race around Centennial Park?
I think it must be done. Two laps around the park, one lap is just under 4km i believe. So two laps gets the heart rate up.
It would be guerrilla style, the parks dept would never let us have anything official there.
Any interest? Maybe a $10 entry fee, just to cover a prize for the winner.
Let's hear some ideas. This needs to be done!

May I recommend this exhibit. Saw it today actually and thought it was bloody fantastic. Saw some things on the wall I have sitting at home too, both old and new including an old school setup I got at the tip last week for $4. Will be hanging onto that one I think...

Yeah, go see it. Great exhibiton with stuff to impress and probably bring back memories for a lot of you older fellas.

Maroubra
On 12/1/2003 Haggy wrote in from (203.217.nnn.nnn)

got up early this morning and went to the skatepark at Maroubra, what a place! smooth as butter cement and lots of good lines to blast around the street course. This would be a great place to have a banked slalom contest like the one they have in DC. tried out the pool as well, this is new to me and i'm pretty useless really but I plan on going back until i figure it out a bit...
at dulwich hill last week i ran my longboard twice through a big puddle at the bottom of the bowl - the bearings are all rusted up now, home to take care of repairs
later skaters...

in between laying around in bed and coughing up crap, i did have time to check out an old skatepark in dulwich ill. its a snake run that dumps into a bowl. very very cool spot. the best old school spot i've skated here so far. they are building a whole new skatepark there so when its done it january it should rule. once i figure out how to get the photos off my digital to a computer i'll post some...
peace out dudes, see ya in the fast lane!
