Im looking for a home cut longboard. Something with size. I want a board that is at LEAST a 65. And something bigger would be just dandy. More of a novelty thing here. Doubt ill be doing much more then step overs and nose rides on something like this, but if someone could help me out, that would be great. Namon

Old big deck

Neil Gendzwill

I had the same problem, I was looking for a vert board with a wheelbase close to what I was used to (15.5"). I wanted a wider deck, not necessarily 10" but not 7.5 either.
I found a few: Black Label makes a Lucero model that's in the ball park (9.5" wide & 33.5" long), Powell makes one similar sized but it's hard to find, Beer City makes some similar ones. Seems like 9.5 X 33.5 or 34 is what you get if you're looking for 15.5" of wheelbase.
Two problems: 9.5 X 33.5 is a lot of wood, maybe too heavy for vert, plus I didn't think it was a great idea to ignore all the innovation that's been going on in the last 10 years. I always bought the latest stuff when I was skating a lot, and I always looked for functional shapes. The current shapes seem to be completely functional: what use is there in making a skateboard look like a surfboard?
What I ended up with was an Anti-Hero Burnquist, which is a symmetrical design (lots of the new decks have longer noses than tails) 8.5" X 32.5" with 14.75" wheelbase. I'd still like more wheelbase, but other than that it works great. It was surprisingly easy to get used to. The tail width is actually similar to an old school 10" skate, as it doesn't narrow down. The middle width just didn't turn out to be an issue: maybe it was cause I learned on 7" wide stuff in 1976. Without the extra wood and all the plastic bits on my old boards, and with the new narrow wheels, it's way lighter and a lot easier to deal with. And the long kicked nose gives you room to move when your front foot gets out of wack, and some leverage for releasing the trucks from grinds.
Another bonus compared to the 12 year old Alva I was using before I got the new deck: the Alva was getting pretty damned spongy, the new one is stiff and responsive.
For wheels, I got the 60 mm Hellholes from World Industries. They're fast & light with their plastic cores, but a little slippery for masonite at 99A. I might switch to the cored Spitfire 62s at 95A.
Ob longboard - I'm also riding a Sector 9 supercruiser with Indies & Kryptonics Blue 65mm, and loving it.
Neil

jason,
You might check out Beer City (Duane Peter's current sponsor), at: old big deck (duane http://www.beercity.com/decks.html
They make a very cool 10 x 33 board. The only problem you may have is finding some trucks that are wide enough. Indy 166 or Gulling Pros (with 9.5" axle) might be the only suitable ones, and the indys will even be a little narrow for that board.

It has been nearly 15 years since I stopped skating. I would like very much to start again only problem is that I do not like the size and shapes of the new decks> My faves were santa cruz decks from the early to mid 80s. Big tail and deep concave @ least 10.5 inches wide. If you have one of these for sale or know were I can find one please let me know.(duane peters malba salba or anything comparable)
