I recently placed some new SwissBones in a pair of 80a
FuManChu's and I must say that they are ALL THAT.
Yes, they have a rubber seal and I believe SolidSkate.com
has them for $36

They said that the new ones have a rubber seal. If this is true and it works to keep dirt and water out, there would be hardly any reason to by any other bearing and they should last quite a long time.
Has anyone tried these?

German bearings/China Bones

I, too, have an old Powell board with the plain old German bearings. As old and abused as these are, they are still pretty fast. On my longboard I just got some China Bones for $15. and the quality of the bearing for the price paid is unbelievable!!

I've never tried Ninjas, mainly because I've had such good luck with Bones. I'd stick with China Bones. They're probably cheaper. Or if you want to upgrade, go with Swiss Bones.

i'm considering buying Lucky 7 bearings. does anyone know anything about them? i can pick them up for $22 ~ thats not including shipping. i was pretty happy with my black bueaties (lucky - abec5), and my china bones for that matter. should i just stick with new bones? i need advice damn it. please help.

Just ordered a unique bearing ,size 6900 abec 3 from japan. These are 22mm o.d. so they'll press right in, except the i.d. is 10mm ,most axles are 5/16,just under 8mm.So i'll make some adaptor sleeves and check them out,i'll soak the grease out of them and lube them with triflon,so they'll be fast right away.These bad boys are rated almost identical to 608's in strength but they'll have smaller bearings (8 posibly 9)so they should have quick accelleration,can't wait.

GMN went out of business some time ago,though they were available through a few sources until recently ,I'm not sure why,they were probabely more expensive than cheap china bearings and not as good as swiss or top japanese bearings so they got lost in the middle,I doubt it had anything to do with their success or lack of success in the skateboard market,it may just have been a capitolization,they got bought cheap and broken up and sold off.

The ONLY bearing which will last long in wet or dirty conditions is Rubbersealed bearins (2RS or 1RS)
Regardless of maker i think, i ride on nachi bearings i

I dont think u will find them in any skate shop,
If the would sell them, they couldn't sell and make money on all the replacement bearings as they do now.
Will anyone give me wrong here???????

I've tried that, its sort of waxy and seems kind of slow(on skate bearings) I may have used to much,but it is mostly a cable and chain lube.

I think this product would work great. It is amazing on my bike.
I'll be trying it next time I clean and lube bearings. On the back
of the bottle it says that you can use it on bearings. I don't see
why they don't make smaller bottles and name it something different
and target skaters and bladers.

German Bearings

Last night I robbed an old powell Peralta (it belonged to me) of its bearings.
They only said German bearings on the shields. Seems like I
remember the day (1989 or so) when you either got cheap bearings
or german bearings... Does this ring a bell with anyone? I'll
be able to compare them with harry's golden balls (8 balls instead o 7)
later when I get the chance.
Cleaning method I used.... Took the bearings out (one shield was slightly
damaged) and put them in a plastic container. I used the force of
the wd40 spray can to loosen most of the visual dirt, and I used a combo of
wd40 and 3 in 1 lube (contains more petrol distilates) to "clean" them.
I them cleaned and dried with paper towells. I used some T9
lube developed by boeing that I bought for my cycle chain. Things are smooth as silk.

Inexpensive bearing u can get at your local Sports Authority, They are rated ABEC 5 ( if anyone cares), and are special 'cause the ball bearing are coated with Titanium, and the bearings are 'pose ta last 4x longer. They are single shielded and come in a set of 16 ( ment for roller blades), cost around $43. Many Pro Lugers use BOSS Ceramics, so i thought i would give the brand a try.

I am going to assemble my own longboard, and I have some questions. First of all, logic tells me that the ABEC rating is a rating of speed only, but I have heard from some experienced longboarders that it is mor a rating of quality and precision, rather than speed. Is this true?
I am looking at quite a few bearings right now. Some names that come to mind are Ninja, China Bones, Black Bones, Black Panther, and Indy BFS. Which ones are shielded? Which ride the smoothest? Are any of these ceramic? I have heard good things about FKDs but cant seem to find them anywhere.
I recognize the benifits of ceramic bearings but all the ones I see are super expensive. Are there any good deals on ceramics?

keep in mind that bearings have a break in period, and get faster the longer you use them.

Wizard, you should be able to purchase speedcream at any skateshop. I've even seen some at Zumiez (clothing retailer) since they sell skateboards there. Just about any place that sells boards should have it. I wouldn't worry about the hype over it though. I use speedcream and it's about as good as the sewing machine oil I used before. I bought into the hype and bought some speedcream. I'm not sure that it really makes your bearings any faster.

I think i know what your talkiing about,if the bearing crunches and breaks when you pry it out,it is already broken while its in the wheel,the cage has cracked ,the outer bearing race may also be cracked ,it still spins fine(apparently) but removing the bearing from even the tightest wheel would not break a bearing that is mechanically sound,you do need new bearings you just don't know it yet.
