This ditch has no directions. Good spots are easy to find but you need to put in the time to find them.
Ed, we need to skate these places. I'll probably be out of work in a week or so.

Thanks to all the chilled NM locals who hooked us up on the Legends Tour last week. Bear was an "eye opener" to say the least. Indian School made the whole crew's "all-time" list. Check

for the docu-drama of the event. I'll see ya'll on race day(photos only, I'm leavin' my stick at home). GBMII

banks in Boston

when I went to music school in Boston in '80 and '83 there was a great 1/4 pipe at a hospital on Mass Ave. south of Boylston by a mile or 2. I just talked to a photographer about the spot and he said it's still going off. Not a bank but fun.

Build some Banks

You know what would be cool, instead of killing ourselves on building the perfect skateboard park, somebody should talk their municipality into building some banks. Maybe the size of 2-3 basketball courts big in a square shape with rounded corners. The banks should be like the classic Cali school banks I see in the videos.
Let the flip trick kids put moveable boxes, rails, kickers and the like in the center. So when the old schoolers show up, they just push the new school ramps out of the way (if they are even in the way).
Just think how cheap could this be compared to a full-blown park.

For any newbies/returnees out there I found a very small bank at Stevens school. 19th and Galer on Capitol Hill. It's perfect for me since I'm just learning. Any other "beginner's" banks in Seatown?

Hi Sharon, It was very good to 'meet' you in person yesterday at the Bear. I agree that this is a stretch to add this to the point series, but it is also a good challenge, a call out if you will. It would be like if EDI added a slalom race to their point series and all the downhillers would be challenged to try it. Hey that just might happen here too! EDI race series meets FCR series in an in between terrain where we can all learn from each other. AND I do believe that Dave Bryant has a very good chance of taking this one.
Thanks for bringing the Gelfand crew by I was honored to meet them,
Joe

I like your ideas LBK about having two races: a big gnarly course GS and a mellow course TS. Remember the awesome bank slalom contest held at the Potomic Van's Park (this past April). That was one of the funnest banked slalom courses I ever entered!!! Wish you'd set-up a course like that at Los Altos for the FCR series. I'd pay for you and your wifes plane ticket if you could arrange it. Reflecting on all the past FCR races I've attended (BBB, Catalina, Tahoe, Breck, La Costa, Hood) I think the Bear is pushing the envelope for me. I thought Catlina was as close to "Death sport slalom" as I would get. The Bear really is GNARLY!!! My thoughts "Are race points worth getting injured before the World Championships?". I wanna' see everyone at Morro Bay uninjured and ready to race and celebrate the end of a FANTASTIC RACE SEASON!!! I feel really honored to have all of you come out to New Mexico but I might just sit this one out and tend to the wounded. Think I'll save my money to head to Morro Bay. Maybe next season I'll invest in full leathers. This will be my 1st exposure to Downhill Racing. I remember at Catalina Dave Cavey explaining to me the difference between Slalom racing and Downhill speedboarding. Hmmmmm....... FCR/TLP, I hope you guys can set up a tight slalom course that weekend. Sooooo psyched to session with you guys at Indian School ditch and Los Altos Skatepark. Ciao' for now.

The Los Altos Park looks like it also could be a fun place to do a closed course banked slalom race. But I got to say that the Big Ditch looks fun but it is going to waste some people!
You guys should also do a smaller banked slalom race so the non-speedboard crowd can get in a banked slalom race. Not everyone has leathers.
How about it, two banked slalom races in NM that weekend? The big gnarly one and a mellow one.
Just an idea.
Good Luck to you guys out there. Sure wish I had time for a trip to the land of ditches (NM).

Has anyone ever hit the banks and ditches along the West Virginia Turnpike (especially between Charleston and Beckley)? From what I see (going past them at 70 mph), there are some pretty sweet spots, but have never had time to stop and scout them out.

There's a good ditch at the Southwest quadrant of Highway 50 and Mather Blvd. I skated there in the 70's and checked it out recently and it's still skateable.

I remember seeing one on the north side of Highway 80. It seemed pretty nice but had some water running down it. the cement is kind of an orange color. Sorry I don't have more specific directions.
