The ditch slap police ignored us...

The police did come across the ditch slap twice that I know of, once when Tad, Cliff and I were climbing out of the van at the top of a run a cop pulls up to the intersection, scoops us out and turned the other way. The other was duriong the bungee start race where the cop drove across the bridge, clearly looked down the ditch at us and at the start of the course we are not hard to miss, and he too kept on driving. The police were a non issue. We also received many comments of support from the locals, from the driver at the bottom of a run who recognized Tad from the news to the woman walking her dog who yelled "Welcome to ABQ" as we rode by. That was a warm and fuzzy moment.
Joe you did a great job of trying to keep the locations discrete, who would have thought a bunch of skateboarders were worthy of a helocopter search by the media?
Thanks again!

There has been some serious over reaction from the locals here and I'm sure that they have not given you the whole story. The news media were alerted DAYS before the event by an anonymous concerned citizen along Indian School that wanted to see everyone arrested. The Media were way more interested in getting some sensationalist story and footage going, but the Police have much better things to do, we didn't see them all weekend long. We avoided riding Indian School as well with so many other races and free rides going on, it was an easy choice. Then the head of the flood control authority John Kelly dropped by the hotel to say that he wished us the best of luck in our event, asked that we pick up after ourselves and invited me to come back to meet with them (again) to see how we can work this out to become a legit event in the future.
All of this fear mongering is being spread by a few individuals that don't have the whole story, think I'm making money on this (HAA!) and are just basically hating on non-locals coming to Abq for a fun weekend.
Thanks for calling me out Stubbs so I can begin to fill in the blanks. We actually made the paper twice and the evening news 3 times and never had the police or the 'man' visit us at all. We didn't want ANY publicity but the anonymous complaint was pretty angry, I got to read it and they obviously have been rubbed the wrong way for years on this.

THanks again for all teh hard work and for letting us have the fun. I hope you can get all the helocopter footage. Having helocopters sent out to track your event down was just icing on the cake. Something to tell the grand kids!
Thanks again

Ditch Slap '09 has officially ended and results will be forthcoming from the races, rides and serious slaps. Even our patriot skater Cliff Coleman got slapped on the marathon La Cueva run, but he was still smiling.
Albuquerque locals, the loco express and TSR will now spend a day recovering.

Joe,
I really wanted to make it for the slap this year, but no go. Surgery to take a nerve out of the foot that weekend. I have 3 neighbors coming down for the first time. Andy, Lee and Don. All cool and fun. THEY ARE SO STOKED AND READY FOR FUN.
I will be there next year. Host the Buckeyes like you always have in the past.

Looks like we are at 40 paid entrants so far. We'll be capping at 60 riders. The Canadians will be coming on this week when Blake recovers from his trip to Mexico and Hoodie's crew finishes repairs on his vessel.... Slap down your entry fee's or get bumped to the waiting list, there's always next year. Check the Sign up page for recent updates.
We've got a fresh Bungee ready to go.

Ditch Slap sign ups have exceeded the 60 rider cap, so now it's time to pay your entry fees if you want to confirm your slot. We WILL be capping the entries to the first 60 PAID racers. Do not assume that you are in any way 'special' unless you want to run the risk of missing the deadline. Visit the sign up page on the contest calendar for updates and payments.
Think of it as a race....to beat your fellow competitors to the PayPal button. I'll announce when we're down to 4 remaining slots....the finals!
