Riverdale Ditch, MD

How about getting together for Barbeque Ditch Skateboard Session at Riverdale Ditch in Maryland. I'll head on over to Crofton, MD and pick a couple of snakehead fish to throw on the grill.

D.C. Banks
On 7/12/2002 R. wrote in from (156.40.nnn.nnn)

lbk and john d.-- thank you very much for the info. I scoped out the anacostia banks (at Orr elementary, right?). Man, they are _rough_, and I'm not just talking about the neighborhood, either. The playground surface looks like your typical DC alleyway cracked pebbly asphalt. Actual banks look okay.

There are some very steep banked surfaces (a concrete table-top thing) good for wall-rides in a government complex (dep of transpo?) on 2nd and D or 2nd and Va. SW, around there. No security cams and big concrete benches if you like grinding and such, looks heavily skated. I will check out the NW stuff later. I was hoping for stuff closer to home (13th and Pa. SE). Also some sketchy banks on the C+O canal towpath (leading into the canal), but I haven't skated them so I can't comment. There may be an outflow ditch at the pump station there, but I could'nt find anything.

I've also been seriously eyeing the "mini-bowl" dry fountains at Malcolm X park, but given all the funding problems at the park, I would kind of feel bad skating and marking up the concrete.

Bonzai-- can't find any ditches in D.C. yet.

Ditches in the DC area
On 7/11/2002 BonzaiSK8 wrote in from (208.200.nnn.nnn)

Hey whats up to the dc area sk8ers...It's great to see that there are some stoked blokes out here that still enjoy that burly style of sk8ing. I'd definitely be down hit up some ditches with anyone in the dc area. I work in dc so I ride my sector 9 cosmic rider everywhere to get around. However, I really don't know much ditch spots in dc because all i sk8ed in dc are the famous street spots like freedom plaza, archives and so fourth but i'm def tryin to learn about some fresh spots. I know about some really good MD suburb ditches though....Peace to everyone!!

Saw the pictures on 50-50.com. But they talked it up and basically told the rest of us to f-off as far as finding it.
Thanks for the info.
I'll check it out.

Oh, is the Timeship Downhill listed on the Contest Calender a banked slalom race? If so, I think it should be listed as such.

BTW, I suggest that this B-Slalom race should be listed separately on the Contest Calendar. Otherwise, many people who would enter might not know about it.

Any one ever hear of a ditch behind Lake Chabot in the east bay? It would be part of the spill out under the dam. I herd about it a long time ago. I think it's real.....maybe.

My heart is pounding. Show us some photos of the big ditch. Full leathers? 48" board? Sounds like a ditch that you got to pull out the big guns to ride.

Photos please.......

Arroyo Bandito ditch race
On 7/4/2002 K-LEE wrote in from (68.35.nnn.nnn)

Would anyone that's interested in the ABQ ditch race also be racing in Joe Timeship's Sandia Downhill Challenge on Sept. 20 and 21, or vice versa? If there's some overlap, I might save people the extra trip out to the desert and have my race during the evening of one of those days. Skate sessions in the ditch seem magical around sunset. But I don't want to have a race after everyone's already worn out from the Sandia Challenge. And I don't necessarily want to have the race at the same time as "competition" for Timeship's race. Other tentative dates are: Sept. 28th and 29th, Oct. 5th and 6th or 26th and 27th, Nov. 2nd and 3rd. These avoid conflicts with other races being held, which we might not have to avoid if any ditch racers out there weren't planning on making it to other races around that time. There's The Cowboy Cup on the 15th and 16th of Sept., Timeship's race is on the 20th and 21st of Sept., Morro Bay is on the 11th - 13th of Oct., the Mountain State Slalom Skate is on Oct. 19th and 20th. Let me know what times work for you guys and what races to avoid conflicts with. By the way, does anyone have any contact info for Joe Timeship? I've heard about him much, but I think he lives in Santa Fe and I've never met the fellow. And Seth, that's a killer looking ditch with a nice roll-in. Looks very workable! Nice pic!

I know there are some banks at an Elementary School in DC. Not sure of the location but I hear it is good. There is also a funky one hit banked wall in Adam's Morgan on 18th Street but it is not worth it unless you are going to skate hills near by with Dug Doupin and Anthony Smallwood. Contact them at http://www.migrationboards.com. Doug will know all the places to skate in the city.
