JC, Im glad you got there, I know Pam was glad to see you there. The Black & red Bomber you rode is the final proto for the new ones about to be out , except the new run will be shortened an inch & be a bit stiffer. Got a call from Pam, she sounded like she had done 10 days worth of places & riding in the last few days. Kaylee,Nyah, Sharon & Palmer, thank you guys for taking care of things & showing her & her Pop around & comin together. You guys all kill it & apparently Palmer is completely insane (something about a steep ditch dumping down a steep steep incline into a 5 foot pipe......) Sounds like there been plenty of video taken, & hopefully there will finally be some decent Ditch stuff going on disc in the future. I want now more then ever to get out there sometime, sound like the skaters town hands down. Thanks Guys/Girls, Bozi

Well, not only did I see the tall woman and the red-n-black Bozi's (as well as three others), I got to ride that new pup. Mmmm-mmmm, concave. And faaaast! Those Avila's stuck so nice in Indian School, and the Trackers were super stable. Kind of a wierd transition after the R-II's, but I think that would go away after some getting used to...
Right on, Jeff, thanks for sending the test rigs out. Glad I was there to sample them.
K-Lee, Palmer, Lowrie, CW... thanks for the guidance, and the new (to me & Pam) locations. 4 Hills was a hoot.

The ditch Simonetti is in is the Carmel Ditch, which is kinda the lower section of the La Cueva ditch. (La Cueva ends at Wyoming and Carmel starts with a massive spillway a block north and just west of Wyoming, but it's all the same drainage channel)
The Desert Tour will be a bit smaller, but off the hook! I'll send out the schedule next week. Saturday is Calvary, Bear and Ditch day....

GBMII, Hell yes I'll be around for that one! School starts up again on Monday the 25th for me, but the first week is always low key. Count me in! Who's coming out this time? Same group of guys? It seems like such a short time ago that the first tour went through. I guess it's just because I've been watching the video recently. What Fun! Whadda ya got planned for them this time?
I thought that one ditch was called La Cueva, but I wasn't sure. Thanks for the verification. Is that the one Simonetti is wall-riding in that one issue of CW? Drop me an e-mail, if you so desire. Thanks, and take care!

K-Lee, it sounds like you hooked up the rookies pretty good. Thanks for representing.
The ditch that starts at Barstow and goes parralel to Alameda (big asymmetrical walls?) is called the La Cueva ditch. (named after the high school a block away...)
I went to a party in Ventana Ranch (way out in the sticks) on Sat and saw some killer new jewels. The have the same finish as the Carmel ditches though, just don't fall....
The Skate legands Desert Tour II is coming to town 29 Aug - 1 Sept. Are you gonna be around?

Yes it is true, Andre, his brother Gus, and their buddy Amir (sp?) came, saw, and conquered. They paid their dues and left some skin. It seems that the Ditch Gods require that of most visitors for some reason, a sacrifice of flesh and blood. Thankfully I've left my fair share to last years. We checked out 9 ditches, skated 7 of them (the other 2 were too wet to skate), and hit both concrete parks. It's great to see folks who only have been boarding for a few months able to pull slides in the ditches and carve up to the cones at the Bear.
Aside from the skating, Andre and the gang are a great bunch of guys. They kept me laughing the whole time and I saw nothing but smiles on thier faces for 3 days straight. Even when they had blood dripping from their wounds and were nursing potentially broken bones, they still wanted more. I want to publicly thank all three for showing me a good time, driving my poor ass out to ditches I've never seen before (the westside is FAR), and being good guys all around. Nyah and I especially want to thank you 3 for the awesome dinner we all shared at the best Vietnamese restaurant in all of ABQ, Cau Garden. We're glad you liked the food, as we did too. I hope you guys had a good trip back and got to work on time. How are the injuries healing up? I'm almost over my soreness, almost....
Tony, JC, Lowrie, Palmer, or any other ABQ locals: Is that pink ditch by the Smiths on Golf Couse always wet or just every time I get out there? It had green slime growing in the bottom, seems like it's there always. Is 528 wet a lot, or was it just the construction up the road that was providing the flow of water? Does anyone have a name for the ditch that runs by Alameda and Barstow, with the big smooth upper section and the rough pink lower section? I hope to skate 528 when Wentzle and Pam Talley come out next week, that one looks mighty fast and sweet! If it rides half as nice as it looks in person, then move over Indian School, I might have a new favorite place of worship.
Thanks again, and "y'all come back now, ya hear?"

Lately, I've brought a number of new people to the ditch to skate. some have whined about their wheels getting chewed up and how the ditch is too rough and they never came back. some were stoked on the pure grind. they have since gone out and bought "old school" setups. wide boards, wide trucks, 65mm Santa Cruz speedwheels... it's so cool to see folks getting into it. adjusting their equipment to the terrain instead of limiting their terrain due to their equipment.

I survived the ABQ ditches

I survived Albuquerque! And man was it fun! K-LEE is the man! He kept 3 of us skating for 3 days straigh, one ditch after the other.
Man, that town kicks @ss for skateboarding. They really do have it all. I hope I have the time and money to make it to the race in Sept. (just to watch, or course).
Amazingly, I was more scarred of Indian School than the bear. I might have been the fact that I hit Indian School my first day, and the Bear the last. But Indian School can get fast as hell.
The bear too, I even managed to make it through the Slalom course, starting from the middle of the wall. I could not grow big enough b@lls to start from the top of the wall. However, I must say that the transition in the chute (dallas) scares me more than the bear, speed excluded. Maybe I just lucked out.
Anyway, just posting to say I survived the Bear, and ABQ as a whole, with bloody knuckles and sore muscles as the only injuries. For me anyway, my bro might have re-fractured his wrist in Indian School.
By the way: Palmer, I completely forgot to call you, K-LEE keeping me busy and all. My bad, completely. Happy birthday man. Maybe If I make it to the races we`ll meet up. Thanks for being willing to help me out, though.
Later Andre
