Here we go again ROLLERBALL 2004 parking Garage race Tues Nov 16 at 8pm. This will be the third race of the series. Come out and get some points for prizes. I just received another box of goodies from Red Clay.
And I here the Smouse is coming.
We will meet at the Workhouse Recording studio at 7:30pm and leave at 8pm to the garage

I don't really care if back-o-packers don't really play for bucks. But it would be cool if the people in contention can cough up the dough. I want newbies to have fun, maybe get some swag, and want to come back. If taking their money turns them off, then forget it. If they're getting in my way in the corners though, it may be that they should pay as well. 8-)

Nice to see some new faces as well.
I love the garage. It's where I learned how to ride sharp turns and buttboard as well. It never seems to get old.
Gonna hit up Vans tomorrow night.
Let's see if I can break a bone by Saturday. ;-)

Hey Mico regarding the money we have a few solutions:
Every one puts $5 dollars in the pot to start, one: we give the over all winner all the money (nice payout)) But takes away from the instant gratification of winning your heat. (Elyies idea Ha Ha he thinks he going to come down and kick are asses. bring it on) Two: we divvy up the money per the results at the end of the night. Three: we just do it as we have been doing sort of the honor system. I personally don’t care either way but the way we have been doing it, we get lots of racer racing every race. Lots of the new riders are college kids and they don’t have any doe and it worth a buck to me to just have them there to ride with. For me it's more about the fun than the money. We can vote next time. We can see what the turnout is and how much money every one brings to the table and vote on what everyone wants to do.

PS - I run 80a - 88a depending on surface. Sometimes I stay on the white 80a's cause they're so smooth and comfortable. Grippins seem to be very nice in the 84-88 range.
I ran 88a's in the Garage at sunday's race and never had a traction problem. It was a blast having that many people charging the first corner... giant wall-'o-people! There were times when there was no apparent line through the turn and I just dove for the inside and popped out the other end passing 3-4 people in the process. It's easy to take the garage for granted, but after the race Mark handed me a bag of Khiro risers and bushings and it STILL felt as good as doing well at a big race! The stoke was totally there...
Another comment: Taking everyone's bucks after each race seemed a bit rough after the novelty wore off. I think it might be nice to just charge everyone 5-10 bucks and split the winnings among the top 3 places or something like that. Let's get this figured out before the 11/16 session.
It might also be nice to run the first 4 heats en-masse, then pick the bottom 3-4 places and run a couple heats for them, with possibly a small payout and some booty for the winner of that group.

I'm finding Mike's comment on trimmed (on the outside) Avalons feeling high-sidey to be true for me as well. On wider trucks (100mm-110mm) they feel more stable, but I've been running narrow Radikals and Chicken 88mm offsets, and find that things feel better with full-width Avalons, yet retain that super-quick response you get from going narrow. Same with Grippins... I tend to space them out a bit more so they're about the same width as untrimmed Av's so my setup stability stays the same. I go super-narrow with very trimmed Av's for ts.

i got a set of red 75a avalons on my slalom/cruiser board. i probably took off 3-5mm from the outer lip. in terms of slide control, i've gotten pretty good at doing stand-up powerslides on that set-up, just carving really hard and letting the back just slide out, its a very controlled slide with the trimmed lip. of course thats just my opinion, i dont really race slalom.

Good question...I don't know about any other hardness but 80's and 85's...that's all I ride. What I can tell you is this. When I ride trimmed Av's, they feel a little 'high-sidey' at times. I usually use them for ts, but if there's a turn in the course where I have to throw some body, they seem to want to get up off the traction patch sometimes. Kinda feels like a snowboard getting up on the wrong edge in a turn or a surfboard doing the same.
Anyone else have any observations? My experience is somewhat limited since I only use two hardnesses of wheels...keeps things simple for me...being the knucklehead I am...

I am now on 78a avalons in back trimmed
about 1/8". How would untrimmed 80a or
82a compare? Speed,grip and slide control.
I have 85a avalons in front cut about 1/4"

We had a blast Sunday with 9 riders racing at a time. I don’t think anyone got away with out falling or someone taking them out at least once, and no one got hurt, Mico won Sundays race and is now the new points leader and taking home some swag and taking the lead away from HC. Thanks Sully for driving down from Oakland and thanks to Flavian for taking the train down from SF and thank you Santa Cruz crew for showing up. Next race is the 16 of Nov for more info go to

My retired Mini-C is set up for my 9-year-old son Jackson, and he's laid claim to my ICK-O-Shay, but after bashing the nose, we've patched it up, painted it, and re-set it up. I think that one's gonna have to be a father-son share cause it's my best ts board at the moment. I think I'm going to opt for a ts 18/19/20 setup... template similar to Wahl's.

Hey Mike and Paul... I have 4 active ICKs (2 Carreras, Retro-Flattie and an ICK-O-Shay ts recently repainted Evans-style in a metallic lime green!) as well as a couple retired ones.
I'm probably going to order another in the next few weeks. Now the question... should it be a ts/hybrid 18-19-20 w/b or the ultimate gs/sgs at 22-23-24" w/b?
Just took a good digger right out in front of my place revving about on my ts board (running the dog) with too-loose trucks and no safety gear. Rashed my hands, left knee, left elbow, and am shaking still. I was really throwing hard for some goofy reason. The board really rocks, and I just had to see if I could really toss it way out there... OUCH!!! May not go to work tonight...
