Check this out. I don't know if there's anything to this observation or not but I just found some interesting facts regarding my current slalom quiver.
After running cones yesterday, a little Tight and Slalom, I realized my Tight board felt a little tippy. The front wheels where rubbing on the mounting hardware on deep heel side turns and not only that, I felt the board rock up in front as the outside front wheel came off the asphalt on hard turns. Now, I haven't made any adjustments to my Tight board in wheel width for quite some time. Now that I have bolted the Radikal rear up, taken some runs, I realize adjustments were imminent. The turn my board is able to accomplish now is way quicker and tighter than ever before with the prior Radikal front and Tracker off-set rear combo. After taking half a dozen runs or so, I decided I needed to add some width to the wheels (½” edge to edge) and after that adjustment, I took some measurements.
My GS board has a wide point of 9".
Rear wheels are 8 7/8" (edge of wheel to edge of wheel)
Front is 8 1/8"
Difference in width from widest point of deck to rear wheels is 1/8"
My Slalom Board has a wide point of 8.8".
Rear wheels are just under 8 1/2"
Front is 7 7/8"
Difference in width from widest point of deck to rear wheels is 1/4"
My TS Board has a wide point of 8".
Rear wheels are 7 1/2"
Front is 7 1/4"
Difference in width from widest point of deck to rear wheels is 1/2"
Like I said, I'm not sure if this amounts to anything yet. Being that the TS board is untested right now...we'll just have to see. I simply thought the trend in set up was interesting. Double, double and double the width difference from GS through TS.
Anyone have anything to add??

Question- Your board for jonny's race vs Roger's board, compare and contrast? And did it(race/course) turn out to be an aero race?
I was riding a Skaterbuilt MAYSEY GS with Radikal front and rear. Retro Big Zigs and Ron's Bearings...Dave was riding a Rogers Bros DH deck with Randall DH's and I'm not too sure about wheels.
I think aero was certainly a factor as the wind was blowing HARD up the hill. Dave was wearing full leathers as I was wearing loose shorts and a tee shirt. Probably not the best choice for aero on my part. After that race, I'm looking at the possibility of scoring some full leathers for such races in the future. I'm not sure I'll ever ride a DH board in a situation like this since my GS stick worked so well.
I didn't leave my speedboard at home...it was sitting in the back of Tiger's truck. I pretty much left it there since I don't ride it nearly as much as the GS stick and wasn't sure I would be able to adapt to it in a pinch. I suppose I could have taken a run on it, but the course was super long and I knew I only had a couple runs in me so I just stuck with what I knew.

besides I've never had any problems with my Radikals, NOT ONE.

I'll stick with the original...Radikal!!!

Beers, sounds good to me. Hopefully the Saturday school schedule with allow some racing this season. Won't know until a week from today when semseter 4 starts.

"how did your GS deck hold up in such speedy conditions?" Bro, the GS board is finally set up!!! It took some doing but finally after I don't know how many years, I have a GS stick I can rely on. It felt like a small DH board actually. I had it set up in the longest wheelbase and just friggin' went for it.

"...which wheels you were using" I was riding Green Big Zigs. Someone told me that you need such and such wheels to get traction in a traction situation. Well lemme tell ya, you needed traction in the left hand hairpin and I had no lack of traction with these wheels. As a matter of fact, I never slid once all day. NOT ONCE.
And for the record, I was riding Rock'n Ron ceramics. Freshly lubed and smokin'. I was also riding that new Cow Tongue grip tape...the stuff sticks like krazy.
that's about all I have to say about that...

I think I can say with confidence, as I'm sure many regular visitors to this board would attest, that the precision of a Radikal truck in the leading position on their board was the single best improvement they'd made since Avalons and Indy offsets.
For me, I'm sure the increased control helped me get to places in slalom with less effort and razor-like precision that conventional trucks couldn't match. It's now been 2 years I've been riding the Radikal in front and front only.
You might say I was a creature of habit as far as my rear trucks went. I had my trusty trucks that I rode and had ridden for years. Two of my most used were Tracker Mid offsets. After 2-3 years of faithful service, the axles began to fail. The axles were loose and eventually the axles came out of alignment. This really sucked because I actually rode one of my bent Mids in the TS at Pumpstation/La Costa this year. With wheels way out of alignment, I raced to 3rd. When I looked at the truck after the race, I decided it was time to make some equipment changes.
It made sense to get the Radikal rears after seeing what can happen to modified trucks. So they are very much more reliable than what I was one before. The Radikal rears ride is amazing. I have them dialed on all three of those boards now. The traction is sick, the turn is a bit quick, but with time I'll get get it wired. So far all I've done is take them damn a 30+or- hill right outside my house and have had some great runs. I have to admit, I haven't ridden them yet on the TS board. I'm sure once I get used to the ride on faster stuff, the TS feel will translate from GS and Slalom. Some great news is now I never have to worry about axle misalignments, bent axles, potential broken truck sending me to the hospital...you know that kind of stuff.
My advice...get on some high performance rear trucks. Normally I'm the guy pushing the cheap alternative. And yes, for the most part I'll stick to that...but for someone serious about going fast and making quick, precise turns, there's no other way to go than the high digit trucks.
After all, why would you go out and buy half a ferrari?
