Hi everyone. I am brand spankin new to longboarding and am loving it. As of right now, I've just been cruisin around on my new Sector 9 Golden Lefts. Love it. I live in a VEEERRYY flat part of Texas, so theres been no downhill skating as of yet, unless you count the parking garage near my house. Anyways, just wanted to say hello. So...HELLO!

women's slalom?

Is it women's yet? So far, I've seen women competing in a men's venue for the most part. Fine for a start, but most women need the different competitiveness not always offered at a generally men's event. albeit women compete in their own category, but it is predominately a men's event and is run so. Some women athletes do not care for the male comeraderie banter and competition of the best dressed or most attractive female addition to the roster. I salute those who can overcome these obstacles but most will not. I will run cones, ride my park board and longboard but have no interest or desire to compete in a male-dominated field. Let's face it. with a world-clas partner , someone has to drive home and that's my job. I'm much more interested in runing good races for you and finding the band-aid. Now I see my mentors as Claude, as coach, Casey MacLaren and Diane Schwipert as skatemoms with my own two beautiful racers up and coming. Call me crazy, Ottawa to Paris to Dusseldorf for four years, this is how it stands love the skate mb

Well Lynn, I am sure going to do my part up here in the Bay Area to get more women excited about participating in slalom. If they only knew how fun it is!
I wish I could be there for the Diva skate this weekend. I'll for sure see ya'll on the 15th at the Pump Station.
Congrats again on your gold! Are you going to bring them to show off?? You should!

I think there aren't more women because people hear "skateboard" and they instantly think "12 year old boy grinding curb" and "ouch." Slalom should be inundated with women. It is really a finesse sport. Yeah, as you become more comfortable, you can go faster on big hills, but for the most part, it is technique. Kelly Benko and myself showed this to the boys last weekend in a match of "skate till you hit a cone". Kelly, you rip. I DQed out the gate on my first run(brain fart? hit our announcer Denis Shufly on the start ramp? forgot to turn?) and the crowd gave me a rebate, but after that, it was on.
Downhill Divas Saturday April 7- 3pm to dark. Pumpstation.

Congrats Lynn! Your accomplishments are an inspiration for women everywhere.

Izy,
Pro's and Am's only! Only around select 15 riders total. It starts at 4:00 pm and is about an hour long event and then the park is open to all. You will be one of the only women if not the only one. The park rules. It would be great to have you up here. We need some female skaters. I'm in charge of the rider list.
