Crossover

Because in downhill, the higher duros don't deform enough to give the type of traction that we want in the turns, and straightline roll-speed is better with the softer duros. There is a cross-over point where the duro and relative rebound for two different formulas are about the same. But that doesn't mean that all of a sudden, the two formulas are exactly the same. Think about different trees that produce different woods that are similar in hardness and flexibility, but disimilar in weight, color, grain, and strength. Birch is not maple. Both are good. Which is better? Well now, it all depends on what you're going to use it for.

77a is on the soft side of this formula, but it's an awesome material for this wheel for downhill type applications.

On 3/10/2006 Julien wrote in from United States  (129.133.nnn.nnn)

Check the vendors forum, Chappy recently posted up some snaps of the pink gummies and the special Orange Plus Zig Zaggers
hey, if the reflex formula has peak rebound in the 80s whats the point of making a wheel thats 77a?
If reflex formula is good for wheels in the high 70s why not make the red riders in reflex too? I guess translucent thane has to be a different formula hunh?

YUMMIE GUMMIES
On 3/9/2006 Paul Steuri wrote in from United States  (207.200.nnn.nnn)

I am WAY stoked for the pink gumballs! I can't decide if I want those or the classic green! I want a nice sticky ass wheel, that slides nice, I weigh like 105 pounds, so I am riding some 72a flshbacks, so I am not sure if I want to get the pink gumballs or not, but I really do because they look SICK! Will they be of average price, and be available through abec11.com?
THANKS

Pink and Punk
On 3/9/2006 Stubbs wrote in from United States  (70.251.nnn.nnn)

If you're a guy, do you have to be punk to like pink? My new organization, Guys Who Like Pink, or GWLP for short, are trying to dispell the notion that pink is only for girls and punks. We at GWLP would appreciate your help in this matter. Please send us free wheels. All your PINK wheels are belong to us. Thank you.

Chris,
Once again, thank your for giving me those bearings right out of your slalom board for me to race with. I do believe that they helped me go as fast as I could rather than some nameless, steel-shield, super viscous lubed, abec-5's that I had. I would e-mail you reguarding this...but it seems more likely taht you'll see it if I post here...Will you be doing anything as far as a "bearing team" for the 2006 season? DC with fresh biltins...could be deadly..

Oil in 30 years
On 3/6/2006 Chris Chaput wrote in from United States  (66.116.nnn.nnn)

I'm retiring at the age of 75 in 30 years. I hope by then that petroleum is no longer used as a primary source of energy for automobiles, and that urethane remains an inexpensive and available product. I haven't looked into any alternatives yet, which is not to say that I won't. We haven't even seen how good urethane can be.

doublewides
On 3/6/2006 Paul Steuri wrote in from United States  (207.200.nnn.nnn)

Have you or anyone else ever tried making doublewides out of 70's flashbacks, since they are already sideset, or tried it with any other wheels for that matter?

just wondering
On 3/5/2006 herbn wrote in from United States  (205.188.nnn.nnn)

what they said in 1971-1975 about what petrolium supplies would be like in thirty years.Well it's thirty years later and,NO no this time we mean it, no petrol in thirty years. Possible substitutes are interesting though, i think when the fuel and electricity production is substituted for and it may be a bit easier to do,we're a bit closer (mostly because it is a bigger priority) then having oil left to make skateboard wheels and other urithane products won't be a problem. If ten years from now half the cars, trucks and buses are running hybred on corn oil, hydrogen cell and electricity, wind ,solar,or even neuclear,a little fraction of all that saved oil can keep us in wheels for a long time.

alternatives for wheels(square, triangle?)
On 3/5/2006 dprice wrote in from United States  (68.167.nnn.nnn)

hey chaput, this is a rather odd question, but i figure if somebody has the answer it would be you...

given the fact that petroluem and oil will be either gone or way to economically exspensive to exstract from the earth in 30-50 years, has there been any research into non-petrolum based products that can replace urethane? i'm sure you probably have'nt looked into this to closely, but perhaps you know of somebody who has? are any alternatives being thought of, are any alternatives even possible, would they even be able to compete in terms of grip, speed, wear with hi-quality 'thane?

just wondering...

Strickers
On 3/2/2006 Cknuck wrote in from Canada  (70.26.nnn.nnn)

I like to put a pair fo Strickers on the front end for TS. Mostly for straight course with very little offset.

I like the narrower profile. I just replaced the 4 I left in Europe because of the weight restrictions on my flight. I will likely use them in Paris for the Straight Slalom race.

At least this year when the weather allows it I will be able to do some equipment testing and cut down on the wheels I take with me to a race.

I had a chance to test Chappy new Zig Zags and Retros in Texas and they are great. I'm anxious to do some testing on them with some of the other stuff I've used along the with the Abec line over the last few years.

There was a special fog-resistent material that only came in rose (red) or gray. I wanted to see things "lit up" more than shaded, so I chose the rose.

Face Sheild Tint

Hey Chris, I've noticed from pictures that most of your helmets have a red tinted face sheild. Is there a purpose for this or is just because its pure hotness?

April in Columbus
On 2/28/2006 Chris Chaput wrote in from United States  (66.116.nnn.nnn)

I talked to both Kenny and my wife. April is better than May for me, and so I just booked my flight. I have a non-stop Delta red-eye out of LAX at 11:40pm on Friday, putting me in Columbus (CMH) on Saturday morning (raceday) at about 7:00am. There's a non-stop return flight at 5:50pm on Sunday evening making it a short but sweet slalom weekend. I think there will be a GS and a Hybrid that weekend, so a 6 wheeler and a midsize 4 wheeler will be coming with me.

Anyone else from LA/OC? Bueller?
