Then we wemt to Billy's shop to dial in my toe-block for the TS -- you're gonna dig it. Sunday's race is medium pavement and I REALLY liked the course, it was a really good mixed rythem/spacing. Do it again. Here are a few hints: GS - will be 1/2 mile long with 95+ cones, just like last year. A true GS with speeds close to 30MPH (from cone-to-cone) for the fastest racers. Buttery-smooth pavement. Spectacular scenery. Your legs will wobble after you cross the finish line. Dual Slalom - 2004 was set on 6 foot centers for the stingers, and was so tight for that hill that it looked like a tornado had blown all the cones down after each run. 2002 was set on 6.5 foot centers, and with the tailwind we had it was just right for it's time - very few cones down yet challenging. So... 2005 will be just the right combination of distances for the hill and the wind. We've been practicing 6'3" at Bernal with plenty of tricky offsets, hips and curves. (Pictures tomorrow) Bring your tight slalom setup for Sunday. Approximately 50 cones fit on the dual slalom hill. Believe me, the day after the GS it will be a welcome break.     Rate post 210064 ! I appreciated the critical eye during the technique section, focusing on angulation, rotation, lateral movement, flex, knee drive etc. The "throwdown" course rocked and it was great skating with both Adrian and Bill. In addition, the pure quantitative precision achieved during the drilling of the board was a sight to behold, zen not-withstanding. I'll be in the neighboorhood of Hood River during that weekend, but I cannot show up for the races. I hope to see the group on Saturday night. Bruce Brewington came down to rally with us as Pina, BB, Billy, and Kaleb & I sessioned for a couple of hours over three diff't courses. Pretty fun time, actually. Then it was over to Boothby's shop for a zen-fest as we marked and drilled a light blue virgin from the UK. The virgin in this case was a newish Turner from across the pond, and it def. needed some spiritual alignment to "make it right." I think BB is happy with the result, even though we were short on incense and candles.     Rate post 209877 ! Fun little cruise... checking out this year's high lake water levels. Nice day off from the skate grind. Tomorrow will be another dress rehearsal for a real race. Potato Harbor is the anchorage. We hung for an hour, then went west and anchored for the night at Forney's: a lonely place. Note the surfboard on the bow. Phil Edwards disigned this rig, and this exact boat passsed along my port rail a few years back when Michelle and I were skiddin' south (in my 27-footer) from Santa Cruz to Catalina island. This boat looks like a 12-footer, but it's actually 30 feet, and the dual Honda's are way quiet and very economical. Thanks, Phil! (he is also the designer of my Hobie Power Skiff.) Hit the bike for 40 and tried to catch up after the travel weekend. Could totally tell that 4 days off had taken its toll... Thought about the day that Michael Dong switched from his "open" days to his first ever pro race at Elsinore in 2003. We did the TS the first day on that hill, and it came down to me and Chicken for the final. MD and I had it out in the round before, I beat him, and he ended up taking 3rd. That night I saw him at the Mexican food place that everyone was hitting after the race. I walked up to him and said: "Welcome to the Pros, kid." I think he dug it.     Rate post 209218 ! So with that in mind, I busted out and rode the little one with the bent tail this afternoon. Pretty trippy. Solid underfoot, especially with the foam wedgy Boothby made up for it. So at 19" hole-to-hole, no problemo going into 5.5's at speed. I still need to train myself to ride more Euro...
