I love my new Landyachtz board. I have 180 randal's on it., Bilitin bearings, and 81 duro Abec 11 strikers. This board is sick. No more knee soreness!!! And it tackles everything like a champ.

Well, carveboard was kind of what I was looking for. Sort of. Something like that, with some flex for pumping, I'm certainly willing to beef it up, as you say. I weigh around 120 lbs, and I can short the WB, but I still want something to pump with. Fyi, I plan on using Randal 180s with Krypto 80mms. A speedboard shape but a carveboard/ pump board feel

Sven, you'll want a stiffer board unless you're willing to 'beef it up' with a center beam.
At 40" for the wheelbase, you'd want something more along the lines of big ol' raceboard/freecarve board. I did one a few years back for Schwippert to use at Morro Bay's Super-G hill (he was then, like, 115 lbs.) and it was made from a Burton 160cm freeride deck, but I had to beef it up with a center stringer (mahogany or bass wood, I don't recall) to deal with the long-ish wheelbase (adjustable, but was out to 35" for Turri Road) and thirty mph running speeds. It worked pretty well, but was still softer than I'd have liked.
I know many of the boards 'cause I've been instructing/coaching snowboarding for two decades. "Board Slut", though, isn't a good occupational skill on the resume... ;-)

Wow man, you've got a good brain in your head, and an extensive knowledge of boards. I was actually aiming for a 40" wheel base with a speed board cut: like kebbek kind of, in order to minimize wheel bite, kind of thing. trucks mounted on areas 2" wider than the truck base, with that width extending for about 5-6", i believe, I can't remember, it's in the cold, locked garage. Something like that anyways

The Static will flex a lot, though maybe not quite like a new Flexdeck longboard. Best bet is to plan on a fairly short wheelbase, right in near the inserts, with not much overhang. If you want check (well, approximate, kinda) what the boards 'sag' or flex limit will be like before cutting into it, rest it on four skateboard wheels laid on their sides. You can move those around along the edge[s] to get an idea of what flex will be at a (more-or-less) given wheelbase. Keep some width, too, as that help it stay stiffer, but don't leave the edges on (bad on the ankles in quick dismounts). To beef it up (if needed) consider a thin pre-cut strip of Hickory, Birch or Mahogany; these are usually available in 3" x 2' lengths at those artsy-craft stores; and simply t-nut that on as a center beam along underside. Be sure also the sand the whole perimeter of the cut, as the p-tex and topsheet glass can be pretty rough. Statics, btw, were either made at Elan or (earlier) by Apocalypse Surf.

Sven, look for a used stiffer Boardercross deck, like an Oxygen Supercross or Palmer CarbonCircle, maybe an old Sims or HOT raceboard. Watch the waist width on 'raceboards', and watch for softer flex noseward on BX or freecarve boards. Freeriders are possibly o.k., but only the Big ones, over 175 cm, where you'll use only up to 120cm of the midsection to mount trucks to. Generally, anything pre-1998 (before J-2's JibNation took over) will be better in the freeride arena, but modern to early 90's raceboards will be fine, and BX decks should good regardless of year. Play-it-again sports and local rental shops are good starting points, but bomberonline's BST is better place to ask for what you want.

i find Gravity makes a nice board; cheap, some flex, good shape all around. I wish they would make a speedboard though, that's what I'm hankerin' for, but i have no cash money dollahz. Any recommendations for creating a board out of a snowboard?

I have a prototype pintail, so far so sick! I've been riding thier snowboards since 94 and have been asking them to build boards for years and today I have one! Some bells and whistles like no other...rubber dampening layer, vibration dampening core, p tex nose and tail, 3 year warranty, lightweight composite materials. I don't know how much I can tell but there coming to a hill near you!

PSR mentioned the good ol' Santa Cruz Cell Block Control Wedges, but was unsure as where to find them now. After hunting for them a while back for a buddy of mine, they turned up at Eastbilt Skates. Check it out:

Evo wedges

I think the best bet would be to 'invest' in Khiro's Rail Risers package. You'll get a bunch of wedge angles to pick from, all set pretty thin (except the 15*), stackable, and ranging from 1 to 5 degrees, plus (I think?) a 7*,10* and 15*. I'd start with small wedges up front, like 4*, and use maybe half that as a ratio for the rear (or just go flat at the tail). If you can find these (and the last place to have them was Tahoelongboards), the old Santa-Cruz Cell-block wedges were awesome for low-profile set-ups, being around 3/16" thin and giving 5* of wedge, and being stackable. I'd kinda be leery of the thicker wedges out there that give you 10* or so, as that just might be too tall, and too much angle. Most of those are around 1/2" at the thick end.
Bushings!! Play with those. Big results for very little money. Again, Khiro (or Bitch) are great for softer, taller bushings. Also, roller-rinks may have some neat taller bushings from companies like Sunset, Chicago, or SureGrip (SGI), worth poking around for imho. For stability, look at Radikals, and note they can be 'shaped' with a file once they're on a 5/8 bolt that's in a drill chuck (I use Tracker replacement kingpins, my cordless Dewalt, and a flat bastard file). Radikals tapered at one end (in a conical shape, but still Fat) give a nice feel for pumped turns, but also easily subdue wobbles. A bargain if you don't like roadrash.

Thanks a lot for the help. I'm on a pretty tight budget, so i'm trying to invest in a good board that will last me a while, but of course i'll try and pick up good boards when I can. what angle would you recommend, if any, for front/rear risers? and does anyone know if Landyachtz still makes the 9-ply Evo?

Adam E., also consider two more options here in truck set-up.. Maybe thin risers or Khiro Rail-wedges to add just a tad of board-to-ground clearance or a bit of angle to improve steering quickness; and, maybe just a bushing change to a taller/softer bushing to improve parking-garage handling or slower (relatively slower) Urban car-dodging.
BTW, Landy's Urban Assault, set-up with 30* Randals(150 hanger, tho) and Flashbacks is a great inter-urban go-fast board, but won't be quite 'raceable' like the Evo, if only because it's kinda narrow, feels unsettled at speedier slides/drifts.

Evo's are great boards, no doubt. but you need to have different boards for different runs. Hence the word "Quiver".I have an Evo with 180's W/(back hanger flipped)and gumballs. I ride it just for downhill. It turns nice, but its perfect and stable for crazy speed. I also have a sector 9 Bomber that I use just for GS,Parking ramps, and so on.It also has 180's(hangers not flipped) W/ S9 76mm speedvents and it turns quick & tight. I use hard bushings on my Evo and soft/med on the Bomber. The flashbacks will be fine but how tight is tight? Its really all about different setups and runs and what works best for you. Something to think about; Invest in the Evo,some trucks, wheels, bushings and play around with different set-ups and see what works best. Hope this helps. sean
