Deck Review
Another Evo setup
On 2/25/2006 Eric T. wrote in from United States  (198.102.nnn.nnn)

I have set my Landy Evo with Randals like many although I have mounted a 35deg R-1 baseplate to the 15deg wedged front of the board. In rear I have a 50deg R-II baseplate mounted to the 15deg de-wedged rear of the board. The end result once I mount my 180mm hangers is the same truck geometry as 50deg R-II up front and 35deg R-1 DH mounted out back to a flat deck. VERY stable at high speeds and still turns enough not to be unresponsive and uncomfortable at low speeds. A highly recommended set-up for the whacky design of the wonderful Landy Evo.

evo set up
On 2/23/2006 Joe wrote in from Canada  (207.112.nnn.nnn)

Who ever was Asking about running the evo with seizmic trucks,
just go and do it. I'm running 180's, 45 dgrees in front, 30 degrees on the back. Its sweet, supper stable at speed. But take time to pick the right springs for your riding style. forget about the randals.

keep on dancing!
On 2/23/2006 leotard wrote in from Spain  (217.125.nnn.nnn)

look i'm really sorry, i am not trying to be argumentative and i see you've had the last word... you might not have anything more to say. no problemo. but lots of people out riding sambas wont think the story ends there, and whilst the wheels keep rolling the samba will continue to have it phat, and the story will carry on, metaphorical dagger in heart or not! ah, poetry!
viva la skate!

seriously...

really, i'm not trying to have a go at you, just that i bet many samba riders have experimented with different set ups and found a variety of options that work, possibly even including the use of randal II 180's... it's about personal taste. you clearly state it didn't work for you. but a deck can change completely with a different set up, right? (and as said, it is recommended with the seismics; i checked the site which says it will work with randal 180's, also i checked some other chat about the samba deck, and one of the guys from lush says that it is designed for "mellow, 30/35 degree, trucks"). just some more feedback, hope it helps...
-i was dying to buy the ex demo one lush had for sale recently but it got snapped up in a flash.

one of the joys of boarding for me is experimenting with your set up and looking for 'that' feeling. when you have it you're awaaaaaaaay!

easy now.

final word on samba
On 2/22/2006 dan@csu wrote in from United States  (216.17.nnn.nnn)

hopefully this will be the dagger in the heart of this topic: evidently the samba is a good board if set up correctly (seismics); just don't put randals on it because then it rides horrible. and that's the story of the samba, the end.

a little bit of samba
On 2/22/2006 leotard wrote in from Spain  (83.58.nnn.nnn)

yeah, so... i've read a fair amount of reviews on the samba. all positive, except this one!?
firstly it is DESIGNED to run with seismic 180's.
secondly i have actually seen people at lush recommending that it not to be ridden with randal 180's, seismics facilitate a specific riding style for that board.
thirdly the lush graphics are very well done in my opinion, i don't think any of their boards are 'ugly' but you are of course entitled to your opinion. the amount of positive feedback and creaming going on about the new v-lams is proof of that. they are worth checking out.
fourthly it is not a downhill board, it does not pretend to be, it is designed for the carving sensation. that isn't to say that accomplished rider who knows the limits of their board and riding skills cannot bomb the living poo out of it.
fifthly it is available with seismic 180's and avalons as a complete. so. the consumers you worry about should be aware of this. and they'll probably check the lush site before turfing out spondoolikins on a new board.

sorry to be so boring, and no offence, but you know the educated opinion sometimes needs references.

bibliography: ride........................................on.

On 2/19/2006 dan@csu wrote in from United States  (216.17.nnn.nnn)

jeez people gimmie a break. i'm intitled to my opinion right? and i have ridden the board, but with r2 180's. i'm not trying to piss anyone off, but rather help consumers with what i consider an educated opinion. i've ridden half of landy's boards, a couple raynes, a couple lush, etc. and i haven't been to impressed with lush. of course there's people who will disagree and that's fine. i like hearing what stuff people like/dislike because i think feedback is valuable. thats one of the main functions of the forum.

How can you say Lush makes ugly boards?! stylish, subtle designs and graphics comliment the shapes perfectly, look at the new drop thru kilima! You have no taste.
The Samba with seismics is a very carvy board not really made for downhill, but with the right truck setup, it will be very stable downhill.
If you owned that board you would know that it turns! its all in the angles of the nose and tail. you can alter the steering geometry by using riser combinations. it rides like its on rails when you lean into the turns at any speed!
respect the samba!

I'd say go with the DH randals if you wanna go really fast they're in between the 150s and 180s in size (160 I think) but they have a less turny angle and stiffer bushings designed to really kick in once you get going

i have an evo with 150mm randalls. when i first bought it i wanted to put some angled risers because the back didnt turn at all. but i decided to leave it alone, because when i get up around 35mph, its nice to know that its not gonna go squirley on me.

Do you ride at all? The samba does everything you require either as a commuter or a sweet carver its an excellent deck in anybodys collection. I ride a lot of Lush product and they outlive most other decks....ive killed two comets, three sector 9's, a Landy RIV and i have (alive)a Kisiwa (thats survived a bus rolling over it), a bahari, a hornet and a new Lush Globe. Value for money yeah you might get stung if you import but that goes both ways and it doesnt stop me buying Bulldogs, Landys and Pocket Pistols so it shouldnt stop you buying from abroad.

I set-up my evo with DH baseplates and RII 180 hangars and it has works well for me. I especially like it because I use my evo as a means of transportation, and merely have to tighten down to bomb hills or keep it loose, and it carves like crazy. However, I still haven't hit more than low 40's mph on it, but it seems stable.

de-EVOlving
On 2/10/2006 Julien wrote in from United States  (129.133.nnn.nnn)

Hey Paul,
There's a dude goes by bpizzle on silverfish that runs his Evo like that (DH plate in the front w/ R2 plate in the back) and swears by it.
To me seems to kinda defeat the purpose of the EVO, May as well just get a DH. The whole point is sposed to be that the front is more turny and the back less. Seems like the angle on the R2+front wedge might be excessive and a dewedged R1 wouldn't be turny enough. Maybe solve the problem by running Crails all around :) (plus they come in pretty colors)

evo setups
On 2/8/2006 Paul Steuri wrote in from United States  (207.200.nnn.nnn)

Has anyone ever tried putting a randal DH (35 degress) on the (I think) 15 degress front of a landyachtz Evo to make it 50 degress (like the R-II), then putting a randall R-II base plate (50 degress) and dh hangers on the back (-5 degress) to make it 45 degress? It seems like it would work to even it out, like a dh race if it had R-II's. Or, has anyone ever tried a similar setup with seismics 45 degree on the front, and a 30 degree on the back? if you have any of these trucks please try this! I would, but I don't have an Evo. I know this should be onthe "completes" forum, but no one is writing back.
PLEASE write back!

On 2/4/2006 WT wrote in from United States  (205.188.nnn.nnn)

Ok,

Since you requested the final result, here ya' go:

The Blue is a Medium Flex with 4" Radikals in the front and 107 Splitfires in the back spaced out to 4"

Both of the Radikals are wedged out but I couldn't guess at what degree.

The firm-flex reb board has Hot Spots with 86s in the front and 80s in the back. Pleasure Tool ABEC 7 sealed for practice and switch to PT ceramics for race days.
