Mid Peninsula Summer Ride: following last weeks 35 people showing, we’ve decided to roll down to the peninsula for a hot summer ride. The first 2 hours of the ride is perfect for beginners and intermediate riders and those looking to practice switch riding, spins and the like. Advanced riders looking to impart their wisdom to newer riders and show their style are most appreciated.
After a few hours we’ll roll to nearby Lakemead Road (aka Devil’s backbone): a long, narrow run great for solid intermediate and advanced riders.
Come out and hang, should be a good crew and time, and oh yeah, be prepared to get wet. As always, there will be a bunch of demo boards, helmets, and a cooler of cold sodas on hand.

Directions to the Ride:
12 - 2:30 Canada College: Entrance to the college is located at the intersection of Farm Hill blvd and Woodhill Drive, Redwood City. Turn into the college and take the one way road to the right. Come to a Y intersection and take a right. Take the first right (it’s right after a speed bump) into a parking lot. That’s close to where we’ll be riding/ hanging till we roll to Devil’s Backbone.
2:30 - ? Lakemead Way. To get directions to this part of the ride, plug in Lakemead Way, Redwood City, CA and you’ll see the road. It’s windy and easy to lose so call TIM’s cell if you can’t find us.
Ride Details:
As always, all riders and all boards are welcome. There will be a lot of chillin, hanging and practicing in the first few hours, then some long bombs when we hit the Backbone. And be prepared to get wet as it’s supposed to be blazing.

so saturday started off with lots of rain, but we went anyway. the rain stopped around 1130, the roads dried in an hour or so, and eventually the sun came out. unfortunately, we only had 10 people show, but we made the most out of it and cruised the city, pulled some slides, even discovered a bank . so we're trying again on saturday. if the weather lets us, the race will happen this saturday. check the site for updates

Dave, if you Slalom, look into "The Farm Outlaw Series" on the 'contest calender' here. If you downhill, look into the ISGA events.
Otherwise, just holler, and let me know when you think you can scoot up into So. Vermont, and I'll take you on some really nice roads. I've got runs that'll burn your wheels/shoes off, or runs that cruise on for miles through the farmyards, you pick it. Nearer to you, maybe you'd want to find Herbn's shop, and see what kind of craziness exists in his NJ backyard?

Sunday July 10: Golden Gate Park, Conservatory drive slalom on hill 10:30am to 1pm (bring a bag lunch to eat at park)....
...then drive to Redwood City skatepark to skate from 2 to at least 3pm. Redwood City has an awesome bowl complex that flows well and has a roll-in.
I have 42 cones to bring, more cones are welcome!

Since we have several very fine parks in the metro Phoenix area, and because I'm having such a grand time learning the curves of the Tempe park, I think an informal tour of the area parks would be a great way to meet up with other skaters.
Thinking maybe one park a week on the weekends. Places like Tempe, Gilbert, Chandler, Paradise Valley, Glendale, Peoria and where ever else is rocking. This isn't locals only, so if you're passing through the area and looking for someone to show you a spot, drop me an email.

Pat Washington and the Funbox Tour will be performing onboard the World War II aircraft carrier Hornet in Alameda, CA on Monday afternoon. These skaters will be a main attraction at the huge 4th of July celebration inside the massive hangar deck of the carrier, skating next to new and old Navy combat aircraft and Apollo space exhibits. Totally Awesome !!

The Solstice event had five long-distance riders, Eric, Travis, and Sean on the 13-miler and us whackos on the 26. Considering the newness of long distance pumping I'm chalkin' it up as a success! 60% attendance up from last year! PromotionEvents with local sponsors provided a ton of goodies at the end, and the bladers were gracious hosts. No spandex, so no DQ's, and finish times will come soon. These guys were pulling handstands and smooth slides near the Finish Line, and after clocking all those flatland miles, downhilling talk ensued - carve sessions in Edmonds are in the near future.
A few guys bailed the night before, but more are determined to make the July 31st distance event -- The King County Skate for Multiple Sclerosis. We'll have longboard-specific sponsors and prizes for this event, the mileage will be a little shorter (at 12m and 24.7m) and starting next Saturday we're back on the weekend ride schedule.
Thanks again for those who showed and those who committed but couldn't make it - and also to silverfish for the last-minute plug even though we were so late to respond! -peters

PA Dan, my limited experiences with the Longboard crowd down that (mostly at The Gatherings, but also down in Alexandria, where one of my nephews longboards)way have shown me that there's potential... Certainly the Longboard Race at the Gatherings have always been popular, and a lot of fun, too. If races are limited to only straight-shot events for LB's, I think the speed/fear factor would raise some concerns. If Slalom stays with only 'little' boards, it's not gonna get that crossover effect. Blending Slalom and Longboards has always made sense to me, but then again, where I'm from, Vermont, ain't flat... Turning is a means of navigational survival and speed control. The hills around the Metroplex of D.C. aren't all that long/steep, but I'd hazard a guess that once longboarders get a taste of dodging cones on a good slope, you'll have several 'slalom' converts on your hands.

hey I just checked the message boards for the first time today. should have checked sooner! Adam, Byron, and I and maybe Deanna will come out to the DC outlaw races. And we like to do longboard slalom, we just got a couple new boards too. So we'll be there next time if we can. If I haven't moved to Pittsburgh yet.

Well, we did indeed have a small turnout.
It was nice to have Andy (GBJ) racing again
GBJ set a fun course, not super tight but fun (I think I already said that)
We used a single lane due to the limited number of racers.
Wind was a factor, as it intensified later in the race.
Here are the results:

This is an advanced ride. There are short sections on Suncrest that beginner’s could hit up, but the majority of the road is only cool for advanced riders.

Suncrest Ave at Perie Ln. We’ll be a little bit down Suncrest from Perie, but that’s the closest cross street
To get driving directions use mapquest or something and type in your location to this location.
Ride Details:
All riders welcome: Freebords, Long boards, short decks, carve boards, flowboards, etc….
But know that Suncrest Ave is a steep hill so you need to be really solid to hit the whole thing up. Demo freebords will be available on site, but you’ll only be able to hit up a few of the shorter/mellower sections if you’re planning on learning or aren't that strong a rider yet.
