Thanks Eric!
I personally blame it all Russ Howell and the Carrasco Brothers you know!
Ben was pretty impresive the next time I seen him and he showed me. Rene you would have been stocked.
Hopefully those that browse this forum can follow the link I posted. There are some of my old pics posted with lots of Handstand action. I cannot post them here (don't know or don't have them on a site yet).
But if you can do it go ahead. There is a nice thread started by Marion Karr the other day that is showing a lot of old photo's

While this is really about the here-and-now, it lends itself towards noticing our history;
Handstands, something I never mastered, but could do every once-in-awhile for a few seconds. Well, my friend Claude, happened to be at a Slalom race a few years back, and pulled his 'trick' deck out, and started doing those, eloquently and in a good deal of control. One of the "youngin's" I taught Slalom to, a Mr. Ben Volvovitz, asked me if I thought he could pull that off. I said Yup, and gave him a hint or too. Claude also must've gave him a few tips. Anyhow, the thing is, Ben can do these now at will! Great to see stuff like that passed on along. ;-) Thanks, Canuck for the Inspiration!

Wow! Great to see you here. I remember you and Tony Jetton at the ARA races in Colorado. I also remember coming out to California during the spring of '78 and you were working at an indoor skatepark in Mission Viejo. When I showed up with the E.H. Wallboards crew from Colorado you rolled out the red carpet for us!

The shot of Piercy jumping the bunnies was taken in '77 or '78 by Glen Friedman. Why do you think it's sad that the stunt was used in LODT? From time to time Bobby hung out and skated with Stacy and some of the other Z-Boys.
Piercy is also one of the very few to score back to back covers of "Skateboarder Magazine", and he may have been the last cover shot showing a skater with all four wheels on the ground.

Anybody know when that photo of BP jumping the playboy bunnies came out in Skateboarder magazine? Sad to say that was used in Lords of Dogtown as one of the Z-Boy stunts.

The Health Bowl was a legendary pool in Arvada that was skated heavily from '75 to 80 or 81 until it was bulldozed and ironically a Police Station was built on it's site (yep, right by the 36 and Sheridan Blvd.)Peralta, Piercy, Ryan, George Orton, The Badlands Boys (Ransom, Evans,Kimball,Hawks) and a few noteworthy others along with Colorado's finest tore that place up! The interest in the Health Bowl was lost when Hi-Roller's pool was built in '78.
I would be interested in corresponding with the Surf Colorado bunch that remeber the the Health Bowl! Shoot me an e-mail! Loads of stories!

I was 20 or 21 and still living in San Diego. I had my own business and a buddy of my brothers stopped by. He asked "didn't you know Bobby Piercy?" He went on to relay this story. Piercy had become somewhat of a major player in the coke trade around SD. He and some buddies took a road trip over to Arizona to a house on Lake Havasu, I believe. The story goes that they partied HARD and in the middle of the night BP decided to take a swim and walked down to the boat dock. Then he dove in, hit bottom and broke his neck.
This guy was pretty connected to all of that scene and I have no reason to doubt the story. It was told to me pretty close to when it happened too. Now since then I have seen posts that people have looked for news reports in the area, zero. Someone once posted about looking into a death certificate, zero.
The freakiest thing I ever read was a couple of years ago. Henry Hester posted about a dream he had one night. He was skating I believe and Piercy walked up out of the blue. Gaunt and rough looking, he told H that he had gone into hiding in order to avoid the Columbians that wanted to kill him over coke debt. Plausable? Sure is, I believe in the truth in dreams.
The last time I saw Piercy was a good one. I'll save that for another morning when it's raining and I can't practice.
