Could someone tell me what is the best, fast, most ergonomic, most aerodynamic way to tuck?
when racing, or just looking for extra speed, should you tuck while you turn?

hey mi name is jack, im hoping to get a longboard but at the moment i ride an enjoi deck. I live in switzerland so i snowboard, but in the summer there are a few fairly long hills bi mi house which i love to ride down. One day i was riding down mi favorite hill a few 500 metres from mi house when as the bottom the hill i noticed a police car, i wasnt quite sure if i should leap off at the side of the road or carry on and try and dodge the car.Of course i ended up ATTEMPTING to the dodge the blue and white Swiss police Car (bad idea! I was going way to fast for my liking and ability and endin heading straight for the ditch with the young policeman staring at me from the car. Mi best idea was to leap on to the grass which was succesful but then, i remembered my board a little to late. This fault punished we with a loud thunk from the my skateboard connecting with the cars Bumper!. I got up from my fall grabbed my board and legged it. I was so scared and have never ran so fast in my life. I got away thanks to the my village festival with all the crouds.

i saw a part on gesmer on fueltv ,one technique he uses is to twist his stance to switch it, i do something like that and i thought it was quite unique, though i know that very very few things are truely unique. I really really can't compare my skating to gesmers(he he)i do the stance twist as i drop to put a slider glove down,it's a low driving move that turns backside pivoting slides into a frontside slide with sort of a yoga like crossing of the legs, ideally i twist and untwist in a smooth flowing move.

Foot braking is great, same with running off or a good coleman slide, but I suspect your speed's already gotta be reasonable. My favorite speed control method is CARVING!! If you can't keep your speed within safe and comfortable limits...Carve it off. If you're skating downhill where carving is dangerous because of traffic...DON'T SKATE THERE! At least wait till there's no traffic and you can carve(or slide, run-off, or foot brake)SAFELY!!!!My golden rule is never go faster than you can run...unless you're wearing full leathers and pads.

well, if you don't want to footbrake, which you should know how to do anyways, there are 2 more ways to slow down. sliding with slide gloves and sliding stand-up. using gloves is way easier to learn and more safe, but stand-up slides are bad-ass!

Hey Marli...practice standing with you front foot on the floor, knee bent so all your weight is directly on the front-foot leg. Then pretend you are pushing with the other leg, all the while maintaining your balance on the front-foot leg. Swing the leg forward (with knee bent), sweeping just above the floor as it moves behind you. That should help you get the hang of pushing for speed. Maintaining a slight bend in the knee all the way through your push will prevent a lot of knee strain...skateboarders' "tennis elbow".

Hi, I just recently go a longboard skateboard. I was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on what I could do/practice to get better at riding. I ride goofy but so far I don't really know too much about what to do on the board. I can push off and stuff, but any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

a long time ago a close of mine had a big of a bone r for the something i was secretly experimenting with and continued to pester me about the concept of the twisted board. understand that the twisted deck concept was only a way to study what eventually be the contoured decks i would eventually design. after several attempts by him to take control of the twisted concept for his own i let it "slip" that the only way to pump the board was to use an elliptical pump (something that i had actually attempted but had already given up on). anyway he swallowed it hook, line and sinker and to this day it's something he claims to have worked on... i bet he still touts as a valid technique. what an idiot...
sound familiar?

What the heck is a gravitational stop? And what makes it different from a normal slide? I read one of the press releases you posted a while back Mr. Hemingway and the description of Olson's maneuver suggests its simply a Pendulum slide? What's the general idea etc behind this gravitational stop schtuff?

8.6 m/s has nothing to do with gravitational accelleration. The units for accelleration for one thing are in meters/(sec*sec). And the gravitational accelleration is 9.81 not 8.6. Get help man. I have a schizophrenic brother-in-law and you are clearly down that road too. GET YOURSELF SOME HELP.

Learning about the Gyro Effect and retrograde motion is the best advise ever. How ever America is allways way behind every one else, doesent mean you have to be. Put those 2 together correctly and you get Mother Natures Brake System. 8.6 meters a second to stop.

Matt, try keeping the nose of your board closer to your planted hand and unweighting the tail end a bit more by dropping your right knee into the deck (if you're regular). Also, I find that the last 90 degrees are more of a pivot off the nose than a slide.. hope this helps

had to use a cane for a bit last year while recuperating from a knee slide w/o pads. soon found that skating with a cane is pretty handy. you can use it like a "third leg" poling out a push on the oposite side of the board from your push foot. it also doubles as a sort of detachable skooter handle which gives you a different king of leverage on the deck.

For fun, I once took a Broom-Ball stick and used it like a kayak paddle. (This is Canadian trivia, so maybe you don't know - broomball sticks are long and have rubber pallets at the end.)
It was clumsy, but also cool to give yourself an extra push, like an oar in a canoe.
Apart from that, try switching positons in mid-run. Stand with both feet next to each other, facing forward. Or change from right-side facing to left-side facing.

...a few quick slashes into a spaced out walk 'bout low'n slow against the driving wind. its off again as each carving turn pumps a rush that no crack could kill. then a big backside twisted into a crossed out carve with a switch at the very end continuing the same arc ending up backwards each time. coming up for air with an olie to manual but the back stayed grounded as the energy just dissipated into nothing (gotta work on those). boredom sets in and a few quick pumps and it's hurtling speed with the wind in the back getting close to the precipice that demarks the edge of the abyss. then a chirping screech enters the small frontside turn that slides into a tight backside drag'nthane (jus like a 360º but the front wheels ne'er leave the ground) body extended, centrifugal forces wanting to pull you past the tail as the front leg tries ever so deftly to keep the nose to the grindstone. a move like this sent me flyin' sideways in the air landing on my bum last time an' some kids got a good laugh at the art of falling...
...can ya dig it?
