Torsion Trucks

Wow! Eight months ago when I bought into this company nobody even knew who eXkate was. Now as you can all see we are of great interest for many people around the world. I once heard someone say there is no such thing as bad publicity.
I just wanted to take a moment to tell everyone that Mr. Jones, Dem has been taken care of and the Land Sailor desperado has been delt with as well. The company growth rate, thanks to all of you, has been fantastic and overwhelming, hence a
couple of things have fallen throught the cracks, no excuses just remedies. We are hiring employees and the slack has been picked up. so bear with us all you longskate cats and we promise service, quality and style. Enough verb!
Now for the brighter side of the news. Sometime next week Mar./15 we will be debuting our new lighter version of the torsion truck, with a new chemistry in the bushing that will dampen it, less resposive, less twitchy, same turning ability siply a
dampened feeling. The bombers will dig it. Weight from 4 lbs a set to 2.75 lbs a set. Stoke that.
We are going to be introducing the official exkate surf and skate team this month as well.

1. SANDY ... the choice of bushings would dependon the weight of the rider and what you want to do. A medium bushing you can tighten and loosen depending on terrain would be more versatile than going for a soft or hard. Having the trucks set up differently on the back and front helpd to ... Randal helped TYLER to post on his page about truck set ups.
2. Tannis ... hang loose, I got the tape and sent you a thnakyou email ages ago ! Also is it you with the Still Stoked board (my memory fails me) ?
3. Axle extensions ... not a new thing but watch out for them bending if you acid drop even off a curb ! A company in Aus makes a tracker truck remake with real wide axles for special downhill wheels they look bizzare but are impratical. INHO anything over Invader or Exkate 201s or even Randal II's is getting into the too wide mode for turny truck mechanics ... on a straight down the hill board maybe they would be OK.
4. Exkate Cherry bushings ... one small batch appeared to have got through with the metal not being primed before the urethane was poured, Only a small number so looks like I crapped out ! If you have them they go STRAIGHT away on the first hard carve so you'd know.

This the only pair of trucks I've owned, and for the past year and 4 months they've done their job superbly. I recently was doing some downhilling in excess of 30mph (we paced eachother in a car to get the speed figures)and speed wobbles were quite sparse. There was one wobble that nearly made me shit my pants, but overall the wobbles were kept to a minimum. Great value

JR, you said it all, why mess around with these wannabe's when you can get the best designed, top quality truck available today-Randal's original speed truck and R-II's are top of the line. Plus Randal has been around for a very long time, I'm still trying to find it, but there is an ad in one of my old Skateboarder Magazines for Randals from back in the 70's! They have been outstanding to work with, I will use Randal trucks on all my boards from now on exclusively.
Adam, fair enough, what you say makes sense. Just remember, it is hard to not get personal when the PERSON you are trying to deal with doesn't follow through. It's always important to try to stay focused on the issue when possible, but when the issue is a person's lack of follow up, then what do you do?
Rich, I agree, it has been a tall order to grow as rapidly as these companys have, it can be over whelming, this is obviously what has happened, you make a good point. Speaking of not following up-did you ever get that tape I sent you???
Dem, try Randall II's, they are awesome, I think you will love them once you get going on them! Skate safe Kids ;-)

In my opinion, both Kapu and Exkate can go to hell. I've tried contacting both for the past 3 months to get a new supply of trucks and to test their new products. We're only talking about giving them some business here.
I come from the engineering side of this world and they are definitely pissing off a lot of their customers. A simple message announcing their temporary holdout would have saved a lot of people a lot of greaf. We all know they're in some legal dispute. That's not secret. We're all just skaters. We want trucks that work and we're willing to try all kinds to find the ones that work for us. Just get it over with and sell us your trucks. You can't get rich selling trucks anyway.
As for the Randal tucks, now there's a guy who knows what he's doing. Maybe I'll just stick to Randal.

Adam- That does look kinda funky. Has anybody tried this? I was thinking about trying to knock one of the axles out on my indy's and put an extra wide one in. I gotta get my dad to help me on this one though. Oh yea, Dem, It sucks about your trucks and everything but I don't really wanna hear about it. Maybe you should just tell Jason before posting messages about suing the company.

Following the recent discussions,
I feel Adam is in the right here and further I think this forum should discuss the trucks not an individual. Jason takes the brunt for Exkates wickedly slow way of dealing with individual enquiries. No doubt they cocked up but what about all the satisfied customers. Ok he keeps people waiting TOO long but you have to put up with it for the product. The company has gone from some obscure new weird truck manufacturer to Longboard Legend status in less than a year. Helped by the internet exposure (yeh I take some credit there ... reading that Jason :-) ) So it is hardly surprising their business practices are falling slightly behind the image. I hope you sort it out !
It remains that Exkates are one of the TOP longboard trucks with bushings to suit all style so people don't let this crap put you off them !
In a more serious vein I have had 3 of the cherry bushings come away from the metal holder, it is not a design fault as none of the other colors have done it. It could be a batch of dodgy bushings so if you have had the same happen contact me so I can collate the info and send it to Exkate. By the way all it does is just make the trucks ride like you have the lightest bushings on so don't panic. Even if it happens while going fast the trucks still work its just they are very 'tippy'.

As far as legality goes, all opinions expressed in my post are my own and do not reflect those of the Northern California Downhill Skateboarding Association.

My words may have been strong at times, but were IN MY OPINION very neccesary. It seems I may have gotten results. I will post them at the lounge next week.

You make some valid points, and I agree that there is value in your message
to the longboarding community, but I removed your post for several reasons.
First, you chose to cross-post it to three forums, which on any newsgroup
(or the NCDSA) is considered bad etiquette. Leave that tactic to the
spammers -- NCDSA readers typically read every post, so double and triple
posting just mucks up the works, and in your case, made it seem like you had
a serious axe to grind with Jason. Second, the tone of your post was far
more personal and inflammatory than was necessary to get your message across
to the general public. That kind of letter is fine for one-to-one
correspondence (if you choose to communicate that way), but it can get us,
the publisher, in legal trouble. Yes, the courts have ruled that publishers
of public Internet forums can be held liable *if* they are aware of their
content. Since we routinely "censor" the site to remove prank posts,
obscene posts, non-longboarding posts, and potentially libelous posts, we
would be considered "aware" of our content (as opposed to an AOL who can't
possibly read the millions of posts their forums get each day). In fact,
it's this censoring that has kept our content valuable, on-topic, and even
the recipient of repeated kudos from readers (check the recent complimentary
posts on the lack of obscenity on the NCDSA. That's me at work, not the
general public.)

If you want to repost your message in less objectionable terms I'd be happy
to let it stand.

Adam,

I do understand your concern, but please hear me out. Of all the places on the web, I respect NCDSA as a gathering of information regarding the sport of longboarding. That is EXACTLY why I posted my letter to Jason on your site.

After many phone calls and emails to Exkate I still had not seen what was coming to me. I had been billed for a product I did not recieve. I tried for eight months to solve it privately with the company. This obviously did not work. I was lied to many times and did not want the same thing to happen to others.

Exkate is a business that in my opinion was not conducting itself honestly. In the interest of not only myself but to other consumers I posted this information on NCDSA. It served as an effective way to get results using the medium of the very powerful world wide web and warning other consumers about what was happening to me.

I believe my post was much more valid than many of the downright slanderous posts on NCDSA. There have been many times when people spoke ill of a product simply because they liked a competitors product more. (Their posts were not removed) I was simply trying to get what I had been billed for eight months ago. Is this not a true reflection of how good a product is? It's the best review there could be! How well a company treats it's customers is just as important as the quality of their product.

In all honesty I think Exkate has a great product. I appreciate forward thinking when it comes to this sport that I get so much pleasure from. But Exkate is a business and their practices were not up to par. Don't the other visitors to your site deserve to know this? Don't I as a longboarder deserve to be treated fairly?

NCDSA is a forum for all of us with an interest in the sport. Please do not censor it. If you happen to be friends with Jason and my posts were removed for that reason, I will lose a large amount of respect for your organization. If it was because you just don't want a pissing match, please see me as a consumer trying to get results using the most respected forum I know. That is your site. I hope it stays that way.

it's about 18" wide or close to double normal truck width. It has a caster on it for 360 degree moves though so it may not be your cup of tea.

I dont know of any wider than 215's but I saw a truck axle "extention" think onh line on a page having to do with wind boarding. I dont have the url but a (cool) guy named Tyler sent me the page and will post it or email it to you when he sees this cause he is cool. The product looked like a bolt on axle that used your truck as a base.

The agreement made between both companies is extremely confidential, so I don't know about your sorce. Nobody has ever gotten the story straight between us. So this kind of misled information dosn't surprise me.The Exkate patent had nothing to do with us coming together because both trucks were different. We both felt working together would be better for the industry. NOW WHATS EVERBODY GOING TO TALK ABOUT?!! I know the KAPU II TRUCK SYSTEM. Just spent the day trying out all the range of Exkate bushings. I had only had the softest and must admit now I will say that there is a bushing to suit everyone. The green ones allow you to downhill only beaten by Randal originals. I setled for the blue bushes for everyday riding as I am not light. The red ones took out the sketchiness of the softest bushings and seemed a good first choice for most people. Anyway for more detail and the definative truck comparison article see SOUL CARVE after the weekend !

I love the way torsions turn but Exkate still needs to work out a few kinks. They offer no dampling - a rough ride especially on sidewalk cracks. And they still weigh a ton. What's up with that? Some of us like to lift that nose and ride on two wheels.

Although it may be very solid info I think something is amiss. Remember Kapu and D'adv are the SAME company ! I rekon that the whole kapu/D'adv scene will undergo a revamp soon. Still for now it looks as if Exkate may be the best ordering option.
Anyway I am picking up my sets of EXKATE bushings tomorrow (courtesy of Rene at Fluid) so by the end of the weekend the definative truck comaparison article will hit SOUL CARVE. Trucks included will be INdy, Invader, Randal and RII's, Kapu (with all the bushings), Exkate (with all the bushings), Tracker B52 and Sector 9's Pivot !!!
