The thing that bothers me the most about the exkate situation is *not* that my bushings broke. Hey, these things happen. They have a great product, and I know that a lot of businesses go through growing pains. The thing that bothers me is that *no one* in the company thought that I was important enough for them to email me. I recieved no reply to the two emails I sent through their website, and I have recieved no response to my posts on this page. I dont mind that the product broke, I just mind that the company DOESN'T CARE! I like their product, but how can I support these guys when they treat me like this?

I guess I felt the need to chime in. We ordered thirty or forty trucks from Jason for boards we're carving and selling and I'm happy to report that I've checked every pair of trucks/wheels out and they seem to be in perfect working order. I'm assuming that eXate is flooded with business and is having trouble with volume, right? Man, what a problem to have: too popular a product!!!

Wow four months! You are lucky! Mine lasted a friggin weak! Luckily they were an extra pair that they put in because they gave me some messed up trucks (they were drilled and tapped at the wrong size, and then they stripped and then I had to re tap them using a size larger screw!) But anyway, I only rode them a weak and one broke. I replace it and rode it for 30 min at the skate park... And the other one broke! Talk about a Piece of Shiette! I guess it is a crap shoot with those guys, sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't. I was going to write to them to see if they would replace them, but now I know that it will do no good. I guess I will just bitch about it here.... Hey Jason! Get a clue dude. You know that this web page has done wonders for your product, so don't piss us off! I mean whenever I go into a skate shop and they have your trucks, NOBODY in the store knows anything about them or has ever ridden them. Everyone that I come across that has the exkates, has either heard about them on this page or from someone that is familiar with this page. Please, get your act together, because you have a great product!

I have the same problems with my Randal's they're too big for my 9"-10" decks. They are very very very cool trucks, they are stable, turn great and are light but I would love to see a 6" hanger width version ( current 180mm = 7" ) for use on park/bank/vert boards or maybe even a 5" slalom version.
How about it Randall?

I´m riding a skull skates sidewalk surfer with trucks and wheels that come out to the same width as the deck (10"). Using randal ll´s would make the wheels stick out and I´m wondering how that affects riding your board.

I think we all know the exkate needs to start making their trucks with a machine process instead of a die process because that will make their great design more strong. It really is a shame that they have problems because the design ROCKS. I am personally going to try the 60 degree luge randal truck with the extra bearings

Well its been two weeks and I haven't heard a peep out of exkate, so I have no choice but to assume that they have no intention of replacing their DEFECTIVE PRODUCT! So, I advise you all to BEWARE OF EXKATE RED BUSHINGS. Mine delaminated (wrecked) after only four months of mild use. I hope that other people can avoid buying this product, because it seems to me that the company doesnt care about the product after they've sold it. I understand that things are pretty busy over at exkate right now, but I emailed them twice and they havent even bothered to email me back, much less deal with my problem.

Angled riser pads alter the steering ratio of the truck. The steering ratio is the angle that a truck turns compared to the angle that the deck is tilted. If angled riser pads are mounted with the thicker ends towards the middle of the board, the trucks will turn more given the same amount of deck tilt, making the board responsive, but twitchy at high speed. If mounted with the thin ends towards the middle of the board, the trucks will turn less given the same amount of deck tilt. It is also possible to mount the angled pads with both thin ends facing forward, making the front truck turn more, and the rear truck turn less. This has the effect of making the board steer more like a car.

Angled risers help prevent fishtailing and speed wobbles at high speeds. Its best to put them on both trucks.

Just a bit about the Randal models as this is getting confusing !
There are at least 3 versions of the trucks :
Original Randal Downhill - stable at all speeds and you can keep them loose and carvy and still not get speedwobbles
The Competition trucks - custom made variable angle & expensive
Randal II the carving truck - very carvy but not quite as stable at higher (35mph) plus as the downhill originals. Mind you a lot more carvy and a lot more stable than any conventional truck. Plus you can always crank the bushings down to be ultra stable.
So if they say Randal trucks presume they mean the original ones, if they say Randal II's they mean the new ones and if they have Comp or Competition in the name they are hte custom ones and I suspect no one would be selling theirs (unless they have had a lobotomy).

Well, what do you mean by "better"? I mean Randals are designed expecially for speed/longboards. Some people prefer indys on a board for the skatepark. Indys are good for the skatepark. If you are doing any carving or cruzing, Randals are better than indy, gullwings, destructo or anything like that. RAndals definatally have a unique feel to them, stable, but twitchy (if loose) at the same time. What were they $35? That is a good deal no matter how you look at it.

Q: How does truck width affect longboard downhill performance?
The reason I´m asking is because I´ve got a pair of Seismic 110 mm (hager width) that I´d like to use on a longboard.
Any input on the subject appreciated...

BTW, in a 1978 book on skateboarding, I found a photo of Guy Grundy going for a speed record on a longboard with narrow trucks.

Yes there are other Randal's besides the Comp II. Before the Comp II, there were (and still are) Randal Speed Trucks (don't know the "official" name) These are cool, definatally not as good as the RII for carving. They won't get the speed wobbles and if you mount them on angled risers, they are almost as carvy.

Thanks, Pierre. Just got a Sector 9 Super Cruiser (48") and slapped my old Indy 169s on it. It's fun but it turns like a tank and I can't pump it like I think I should be able to. Of course, I'm comparing in my head to my old fibreflex slalom board with Bennetts that was hyper-quick. Still, from the other posts it seems like R2s or some other such are the answer.

Neil, Kuu sports in Canada has just started distributing longboard equipment: Dreggs Cherry bombs and RII.
I do not know if they will sell direct to customers.

I just had one of my exkate bushings break on me and I've only had it for 4 months. The metal plate sheared away from the plastic part of the bushing? Has this happened to anyone else? I hope I dont have to buy new bushings for these trucks every 4 months...
