munchh's Bicentennial board
On 6/24/2008 mad-rat wrote in from United Kingdom  (92.233.nnn.nnn)

I'm pretty sure I remember seeing those for sale here in the UK back in the day.
I'm sure there are adverts for them in UK's Skateboard! magazine.
I'll try to see if I can find them.
Unless my mind is playing tricks on me after all these years.

there shapes are nothing like that, their wooden boards and they don't seem to have that kind of beamer feature, the usa patriotic thing is in a different pattern.

munchh's Bicentennial board
On 6/23/2008 Adam wrote in from United States  (208.64.nnn.nnn)

Such designs were all the rage in the run up to the 1976 Bicentennial.. which may help date the deck to 75/76 rather than later.

Ampul American Style Decks
On 6/22/2008 Vintage Man wrote in from United States  (66.245.nnn.nnn)

Attached is picture from my 1978 Skateboarder Mag.
On ebay type in Ampul Skateboard... 1976 and 1977
ads come up although hard to see...On my pictures and
via ebay did not see any decks that look similar to Munich's...
Munich's deck has that bottom style wedge similar to my
Val Surf deck, not suggesting Val Surf, but maybe that info can
semi date it/manufacturer of similar guess it?...
Has OJs and ACS trucks. So dating is not that difficult eh :---)
Cheers, hope the pictures are useful....

munchh's board
On 6/22/2008 buddy rawls wrote in from United States  (205.188.nnn.nnn)

that board with the stars and stripes tape is not an ampul. they never offered anything like that, as I recall. Unless it was pre 76, in which case it would have been a small 4 hole pattern or 3 hole pattern. boards can be redrilled, but that board looks very much like an original. If you find it to be an Ampul, definitely scan the ad. I would love to have it. whatever the company, I would love to have it, especially if there were different versions.

Bara's Quiver pix
On 6/21/2008 Steve in AZ...yeah, that guy. wrote in from United States  (130.13.nnn.nnn)

The thing I get from Bara's pix is a sense of provenance:

I currently have that sweet signed (and rather rare) 8 or 9-ply CYa.
The cut-down Bozi is (I'm pretty sure) from Kaylee in ABQ.
And I know (or at least knew) where Bara got some of that stuff.

I'm now a semi-recovered collector myself. Vintage Man calls me "Guru", so I take it as a compliment. I've still got ~100 decks across the vintage, slalom & longboard stuff with trucks & wheels to match most.

My ears perk up when I hear about one of the handfull of odds-n-ends that I may still desire, but like CB, I'd take any amount of free time and ride my increasingly FAT gonna-be-44-yr-old-ass down a hill or to a park to skate.

$500+ for one PAIR of NOS 'Gators? Yeah, I'm pretty done.

I've thinned out much of my collection, but the big items still remain until I can, again, muster the time it would take to get it all listed here or on th'bay. Yes, the Fusion and the NOS TyPage Complete will have to find new homes, but not just yet. BST for those another time.

Oh, and VM/Dave: No extra RR2's. Sorry, grasshopper.

totally agree
On 6/21/2008 herbn wrote in from United States  (71.127.nnn.nnn)

having bits of history to remember things, put things in prespective ,whatever memorabilia does for you,is pretty cool. But there is a point where it becomes a bit obcessive(sp?)and in a way it interfers with living in the present. Which reminds me to ignore the price of gas for a bit and drive up to some hills and revisit that rush.

2 much
On 6/21/2008 Bara wrote in from United States  (68.84.nnn.nnn)

I think at one point i had about 60 or 65 completes...something like that...only about 20 left and only 9 oldies...most are off to good homes...those Gyros...yeah, an odd combo...but they matched that blonde bottom really good so i went with it..about the same era...the 3 hole Ad+Traks were the best part of that board...bottom line though...it's cool having all that old stuff...but it just doesnt replace riding....i miss some of those boards now, but the places we went last year, this sh!t we did and the people we hung out with....

worth every penny

Something...something....
On 6/21/2008 munchh wrote in from United Kingdom  (86.149.nnn.nnn)

I'm going to kick myself when i find it, 'AMPUL' its a big 70's name i thought, there was a whole range like this, British flag also, but yeah, they were a bit before thier time, if only it was a bit bigger it would be a viable slalom deck!

Gonna traul through the mags i'll post the AD if i find it.

PS. the finish is all part of the final gloss/glass coat, its smooth?

A collector sent me pictures of part of his collection.
I recognize a lot of the trucks, parts, hardware and
many of the stickers.... This sweet quiver is a little more beautiful
and fancy for this Model T skateboard driver...
Hope you all like these pictures and skateboard styles...
Comments, know stuff about the various decks, ridden em before?

G&S Refurbish
On 6/16/2008 Vintage Man wrote in from United States  (199.67.nnn.nnn)

Looks awesome, good work... My 2cents :---)
Add a little pecan stain to it. Will darken
the "been protected from the light past 30 years" wood
to match the bottom of the G&S deck :---)...
Any hardware store, get a $2 paint brush and $5 small can of stain.
Your grip tape skills are excellent....
HEY YOU OWE ME $72 bucks!!!
Via your prodding or advice :--) I got a roll of that
3m stairway or tredway 4" x 60-ft. Which is in our world;
skateboard grip tape!! I like 4" wide vs 6" as my decks are less wide.
IS IT ME?? All G&S seem a little off center the logo and the
wheel locations. What was up with that??
cheers
David

G&S Warptail Part II
On 6/16/2008 Rob in VA wrote in from United States  (138.162.nnn.nnn)

If you scroll down a few you will see the refurb that Vintage Man did on this vintage Warp Tail. I took it and scraped off the old grip tape, sanded it down, and put on this grip tape to make it look a little more like the original grip that came with the board. It isn't perfect by a long shot but it looks OK. Might tear it off and start over but can live with if for now! Added a set of Bennett Pro's and Park Rider Logan 5's and it is now hanging on the wall in my office alongside a vintage oak Sims Pure Juice and Logan Earth Ski.

nice job
On 6/14/2008 herbn wrote in from United States  (71.125.nnn.nnn)

real good restoration, flashed back 30 years for a split second,i remembered that the polished Banzai's had a white outline painted/printed on,and not recessed in an ingraving, quite fragile, having all that in used but mint condition would be really really rare.
