Trackers
On 5/26/2009 PSR wrote in from United States  (75.68.nnn.nnn)

JR, those are likely earlier versions. By '76, you'd see a made-in-USA stamping, and then 'guarunteed' a bit later stamped on the bottom of the baseplate. Query; Are your axles fully threaded? If so, you've got really early Trackers.

Trackers
On 5/26/2009 JR wrote in from United States  (144.223.nnn.nnn)

I have a set of 70's Trackers that say Tracker only on one side of the base plate and not the other. There is nothing on the bottom of the base plate. Is this an earlier or later version. most of the ones that I have seen have Tracker written on both sides, parallel with each other. Any help is appreciated...just curious. Thx!

Sims Stratoglass --longboard!
On 5/25/2009 Buddy Rawls wrote in from United States  (205.188.nnn.nnn)

Herbn, those Sims Stratoglass boards were short 26 or 28, like you remember. But you know what, the whole skateboard market and media nowdays call any board that isn't a popsicle a longboard. Pretty hideous really.

really liked those back in the day, though i never had one, they were just sooo light ,lighter than the g&s and the tunnel "cloud" really light ,with plastic base speedsprings and a small wheel road rider 2 or powerflex 3or even the 1 or hobie's freestyle wheel ,just used to love to have the lightest light board ,skitches boards,,, flashback moment

Did Sims ever make dark (possibly blue) longboards with white logo? Maybe in 76 or so? Or am I imagining things?

Hope you vintage guys like the finished product!!
I thought it came out pretty sweet. I traded it for
about $60 of Maryland Blue Crab with a guy I know.
He needed a Hobie Weaver for his collection.
I need to compare this blue crab I hear about from all you
east coast boys with my own fabled home grown local
to me dungeness crab!!LOL
cheers

gullwing bushings
On 5/1/2009 buddy rawls wrote in from United States  (128.158.nnn.nnn)

when I went back thru my GW's, I got my splits running pretty well. I must admit, I went thru lots and lots of trails with different set-ups. I have them outfitted with blue Khiro bitches (tall cones in all 4 locations). I have the hangers adjusted so they are as near 90deg to the centerbolt as possible, and they are quite loose, but not flopping.

I have them mounted on a 26" Arrowsmith Competition replica with 66mm red zigzags. they honestly feel very good. But the wheelbase is quite short, so the lean to turn ratio is tight and whippy. Also kickturns are loopy because the hanger angle is steep, and the truck tries to steer away (common with steep hanger trucks). Case in point try some kick turns or carves riding a slalom board backwards.

On the other hand, I tried getting some old Phoenix working as well, and I just could not do it. I remembered my phoenix in the old days would track in all sorts of directions. They still did. there was nothing I could do. Phoenix were not identical to the Splits, the angles were a tad different. Even the new SL2002's (old now!) felt better than the Phoenix. Its funny I rode them to death long ago. or atleast for 6 months till the boards just got too wide for a 6" truck (actally 5.5").

I am a serious GW fanatic, on first name basis with Walt. Oh well, there has to be atleast one of us!

a couple years back when i was laid up, i got some stimulators and coned them out for bushings on a pair of splits....

...yellows and greens...

and it was only then, after installing them that i realized....

Gullwings really suck after youre used to new gear...

Dont invest too much on those bushings....the result may let ya down ; )

gullwing split axle rubbers
On 4/29/2009 buddy rawls wrote in from United States  (128.158.nnn.nnn)

I have not really found anything that works quite like the old big green conical ones they came with. what I am currently using and is working "well enough" is Khiro Blue Bitches, but I am using the tall conicals all around, so I had to order enough sets to make that possible. I have been toying with trying a set of the new tracker fasttrack bushings, but I have not checked dimensions or anything.

the big thing I have noticed is that the split axles and phoenix really work their best with a conical bushing.
