I used to skate the Friday night session at Skatercross and at many Val pools. I never once saw anyone riding Emotion wheels. Shredi, Jerry Valdez, Kent and Scott Senatore, etc. I think they were yet another one of the bad ideas of the 70's.
Other bad 70's wheels - which did you think were the lamest?
1. The gooey lip Powerpaws - sssslllloooowwww
2. Alligator wheels - sssslllloooowwww
3. Wizard wheels - what was the tread for?
4. Z-Grooves - after the great success of Wizards...what were they thinking?
5. Continenntal - they were plastic not urethane
6. Sims Bowlriders - over 3" wide.

madrat, I'll bet those Emotions ('thane and rubber) are worth a chunk of change at this point. I remember their ads being in Skateboarder for several consecutive issues, at least. I remember photos of Alva at Gonzales' Pool and Hackett at SkaterCross in Reseda. I seem to recall a number of other SkaterCross riders showing up in those ads (Shreddi?). There seem to be a number of old SkaterCross riders that frequent this site. What about it guys? Was their a special thing going on for Emotion Wheels at SkaterCross? Were they based near there, or what?

STEVIEB...Avon Boosters! A wheel manufactured solely to work in the rain. That HAS to be a British invention, hee hee.
Not only can I do you a scan, but I have a NOS set or two. Never tried them out, too chicken, would you skate in the rain?
I have a set of Emotion wheels to, half rubber, half urethane, I remember seeing pictures of Alva and Hacket advertising them.

Two offhand,there cxould have been more.I wonder if i shoot these pages with my camera if they'll come out good,any suggestions?I experimented a bit,and it seems as though pics come out better if i shoot them in good indirect light and brighten them up on the computer,as opposed to using the flash.My stack of Skateboarder originals is about 8 inches thick,with a doubles including the "Cult of the longboard issue"with and without cover:)

Mad-rat the photo from Skateboard! mag brings back alot of memories of sending for stuff from Alpine sports and counting the days til it arrived,But to tie in with what Herbn said about rubber and older posts about rain wheels I wonder if you would have any ads for a wheel by Avon or Dunlop that was 1/2 rubber/PU they would have been in skateboard! at about that time.

I never saw the bowlrider shape 58x65(?)in person,only one picture and maybe mentioned in earlier ads,i think the ad i see might be the first color /picture ad,the older ones were for "StarTrac" wheels yellows were 75a but lower resilience than red,i think for more grip/speed scrubbing ability, same for the orange but 85a for smoother streets.I'll throw this in,in regards to resilience,rubber has LOWER resilience than urithane,it is a dampening suspension material,it's grip in the wet is due to it's surface porosity,rubber is slower,urithane does not have this porosity, will never out grip it in the wet.

That photo represents Krptonics the way I recall first encountering them. It wasn't even clear whether the name of the product was Kryptonic or Star-Trac, and I don't remember an orange or yellow. Herbn, you could be absolutely right and I'm not saying you're not, but now you've got me wanting to bust into my Skateboarder archive to check my recollections. I'll let you know what I find.

I posted a picture of a load of mint wheels from a 1977 UK mag a while ago on here. This should take you there in the pictures section.

I have a mag with the original ad,well one of the first,they had 5, red,blue,green(trans),yellow,orange(trans),the yellow and orange were redundent hardness with more traction and less speed,three shapes including the wide low bowlrider style shape.

... and if I recall correctly, the first color/hardness combinations were Pink=Very Soft, Blue=Medium, and Green=Hard. Now, by today's standards the "hard" green would be considered very soft... my guess is about 86A. My other guess about your oranges, Duane, would be to look very carefully at the outer edges. My guess is that your oranges will have a very slightly radiused edge, while the pictured greens have a hard, 90 degree-angled edge.

When Kryptonics first hit the market they were offered in three colors/hardnesses and two (I believe?) sizes. The translucent green is the original green. Later they went to an opaque, almost flourescent, lime green, but the wheels pictured below are from the original line. That's probably why they went for so much.

For $392 I could skate my new Krytos in Bermuda. Funny, I don't ever remember seeing the translucent green ones; my bro and I bought sets of opaque orange and blue 70mm respectively , off of this same mold, but the green I just don't recall. Maybe they were a little later? I still have the orange ones but the blue were ripped off 20 yrs ago.

I beleive the pre z flex zephir boards came with molded gripI dont think it had the stripping like the yellow one I have seen knock off z like boards i think some were made in vanuys in the 70s.

Maybe, wires are crossing,but i think early Z flexs came in a bag with the stickers unstuck. Maybe i'm confusing them with something else,but....on the subject of Z's,remember the early Jay Adams with the poor attempt at molded in grip.Also rumors of superlight Z's,alot of pro's used to claim they had superlight Z-flexs, Z flexs were anything but light, i'm guessing a few made with full foam core.When my rocker kick split,next to the beam, i cut it in half to see the foam,there was actually a small piece of soft packing foam in there and it wasn't even set in even. I had a Z-woody Jimmy Plummer model to, those were real soft wood,a friend of mine had a Z-winger,lite lam, Marty Grimes 33x10.75 with the first concave,that was soft easy chipping wood also.

I picked these wheels up quite a while back on *bay `cause they looked cool. They`re shaped just like them skinny Sims Competitions. Obviously a knock off of `em but my question is...who made them and when? BTW...they are pink-orange, NOS, and smell juicy.
OK, 2nd question...do I slap them on my NOS Sims Butcher Kicktail and run over some Bufo Toads or stash `em?

"I've got what appears to be a skateboard,it was in a shadowy corner of my basement packed in a trashbag.Some sort of "Sims Taperkick" brand of board,it's quite long and cumbersome,which may explain why it wasn't ridden very much,it seems to be made of pine.It has a unusual steering mechanism that makes this skateboard rather wobbly,the "kryptonic" wheels seem to have yellowed and deteriorated with age and have become very soft,the sims racing bearing seem to spin ok. Bidding starts at 20 bucks":).............Herb!,wake up!

The trucks look re-built. To me, that doesn't add up. If they don't know what they've got, why did they re-build them. They didn't have to re-build to sell it. Did a previous owner do it? Things that make you go Hummm.
