Kludy, your posts have brought a tear to my eyes! You represent so many of us that kept the spark alive in the 'dark years' hoping and praying that some 'young bucks' would once again start the fire.
Some of us did it by racing and never making the podium, some by riding with any newbie that showed an interest and had a foot brake, some of us by putting on races just to see who would come, and some by pouring out their soul in every run, rant and post so that we all knew that there was still a true passion for downhill burning out there. I really do respect every over capped post that you ever wrote, you and Flindt retiring online but not in spirit, and Robmc3 telling it like it is year in and year out. We raced EDI as ams and I still have never beat him.
The difference between you and all the other EDI era guys I can think of is that YOU have a family, are a parent, and even have a kid that has gotten the spark. My daughter did the Sandia All Around the same year that Justin came out. She won, Judith Rogers took second.
Parenting is like one LONG run bro and I'm damn proud of the few that push into that one. Did you know that Biker is now part of the biggest club on the planet.....Parents!!!

Forgive me , am on a roll , Ha ! Please remimber that I am a person that just fell in Love with the whole sport. The ( Real Champions ) that I have been blessed to meet and ride with. I Never won the BIG RACE, not a great rider, at all ! Yes , been doing it a long time but that is just because I did not know when to stop or move on like all the real champs has done.
What I did get out of all this is I got to see the progression of our sport and meet young talant along the way.Know alot of riders around the world that love this stuff as much as myself and as for me to not only here and see but to be on the line with alot of todays best riders.
I have seen a sport go from ; to make it to the bottom of a race hill and stop; you won. To now predrifting and completey drift thru the turns is not real to me.Our sport went from just pure balls to talet in just 4 years !
For me I was the 1st of the two but to get to see all this happening has been very exciting for me!
I CAN GO FAST; ( JUST CANT TURN ) STAND-UP RULES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

3 times BQ and just did not stick, Ha ! learned my lesson that you already knew.My thinking was that if I retried it would be easier to just watch races. I was so wrong, not going to go there any more. Racing was never a job to most but there was a few that treated like one and I was one of thos that trained hard, never free riding, just balls to the wall every run. Gary was a great teacher at that.Ride like you race. Darin Kessing was my bigest influence with treating Stand-up skateboard racing like a job. Looking and finding sponsors to help with cost. Big time leather makers to show we where for real to our sponors. Not a job ? For years I looked every day for sponors and I have had many for short peroids of time. Road hills 3 times and week, always in leathers and always going as fast and hard as I could. BQ this sport was a job for me and I worked hard at it because it was the most trilling thing that I have ever done and the travel made it a real job ! My skateboard job has taken me to places alot of people will never see. My skateboard job payed me, not much but when I did it was a great feeling to work so hard at something knowing there would not be money at the end of a very long and hard weekend only to be paid a few bucks ROCKED ! Today 2009 there are a dozen riders right now that would tell you that , HELL yes this sport is a job ! WHEN A MAN PUTS MANY YEARS INTO SOMETHING IT BECOMES A JOB ! A CAREER OF PASSION BQ !

You retire from a career/job. never thought of skateboarding as my career or a job, just something I have done for fun for over 25 years. kludy is the only one to ever have claimed to retire from skateboarding. not sure how many times but I know at least once. no disrespect mr. kludy!

John Rogers, Danny Connor, Meatball, Jim Z, and Will Brunson are still killing it whenever they get a wild hair up their ass. John was grandfathered in, but the rest listed above all raced edi am at one point or another.
In fact, I hope Will, who is currently at Eastbourne, shows those top 4 how its done!
ps. People need to stop pulling Brunsons - you know, getting drunk, and keyword here, TRYING to jump through bonfires! I heard there was another one!

I know you are not retired bro! Just your old set of leathers are! Biker is retired. Dane, BQ, Caveman and John Dread are retired. So many of the EDI era guys that I looked up to are, but not you! Not Flindt, RobMC3 or DT. You guys are still going fast as ever and have stories yet to tell. Skate School keeps the tradtition alive and we plan to for years to come, teaching the youngsters the history of our amazing sport!.

I wont argue that its a great place for legendary things. Leathers ok, but a helmet like that should stay in action with someone who will shred just as hard as kludy does, for many many more years.

Our Skate School is a living tribute to the History of skateboarding with an emphasis on racing and downhill specifically. Just because we have ramps, bowls and banks doesn't mean that any of our prized museum donations are collecting dust! Dave Price dusts and sweeps the whole place every week! Just ask Jimmy Flindt or Rob McKendry who have both stayed here if this is a fitting place for Captain Americas retired gear.
We would be honored to have Captain Americas leathers or helmet to put next to Midgets OG slide gloves and lot's of other important speedboarding artifacts.
I'll e-mail you manana!

That doc should be passed down to someone who will keep shredding in it, not so it can collect dust in a room.
