Man some ad,people talking about it twenty years later,i had that issue,i think that ad was to close to the cover and its shreaded/lost, but i remember it crystal clear,the Stroker in the front had alot of risers and links that were not stock,probabely aircraft control ball joints like on my recreated,improved,strokers.

Thanks for the correction on how that race went,John.I hadn't finished re-reading the article(or look at the results!Duh!!)the in my copy of Slalom!(#19,Aug. '93)magazine.Those calf spats Roger was wearing are pretty wild!Too damn bad you all didn't get run #2 in before the rain,that could've been an epic race(not that it didn't have it's own merits).How about using that Turner for going after Hardwick's record?

Quite a while back I mentioned the mysterious black downhill Turner shown in an old Turner ad, with Ryan standing in a starting gate, in his red Turner leathers. Is this the other board in question? I probably have the ad somewhere. He had a Stroker on the front. That board always intrigued me. It was never pictured anywhere else, that I'm aware of. ...and you've got one just like it? I'm beginning a week of unplanned vacation time, right now. I might just have to go to Boston to look at it.

Wow,my composite v-lam(s) are a bitch to make,but i'd jump at 2 grand,no problem 70?,no sweat.Maybe i'll buy some foam,i can get 16lb ridgid foam,and carbon too.do i gotta change my name to turner? though.

Pre-school, actually I did not beat Hickey in that race. He was far more aero than me with the speed suit, calf fairings and helmet. He was more dilligent about practicing as well. I had not ridden teh baord before the event and was busy sourcing hardware to mount the wheels just two days prior to the event- in fact we stopped the UPS truck in the street to pick it up on the way to the airport. Despite teh boards short length it is inherrently stable. It is completely rigid torsionally with a little more trosional twist near the nose and tail to be a little more forgiving. Nothing rides like this deck. There is more of a difference between this deck and other downhill decks than between a Turner and a regular slalom deck. Jeff Caron of Catek bindings rode it and reffered to it like being akin to meditation even at low speeds. I believe the deck would be stable into the 70+ range. It is carbon fiber adn foam with I think some rubber sheeting in it as well. Bob said they are a bitch to make and I doubt he would make another for less than $3000. I paid $600 almost 10 years ago and Bob said it was a gift to me. I used to think the regular Turner decks in teh 70's at $80 per board were expensive. This board is a real treat. The smaller grip patch is fine for a regular tuck. The design was taking into account a course with some sharper turns up top and a long straight to the finish. One similar deck was made for Bobby Ryan who rode it stand up at Signal hill. Then a Heavy Longshore man Bob Puccio posted the fastest time laying down on Apex wheels (had aluminum hubs). Ryan in a desperate attempt to beat Puccios time on his second run shot the hill headfirst (prone) on the Turner, but still came up short. Ryan was a much lighter rider.

Less drag,mmm if you're refering to the air flowing around the deck,my longtime practice of beveling the edges of my boards seems more serious,i only do it cause i think it looks badass/cool, like Wes Humpstons 12 inch Dogtown bigfoots.

The main advantage of shorter boards is that they have less drag. Look at the Madrid Hickey boards and you'll see the same thing. If you havn't seen one I have a few in storage and could possibly be persuaded to part with one or two should a suitable donation to BADASS be forthcoming.........

Graig,I can't answer all of your questions,but: It works very well,having posted a faster time than Roger Hickey did.That race was held a few years back,in the Pyrenees mountains in France as an international invitational event.John Gilmour was the pilot then,the owner now,and you have to be very good friends with him to ever ride it.It's not too short,even for speeds in the mid to upper fifties.I don't know it's actual measurements,sorry.Manuverability at speed is a good thing,especially for slingshots from a draft.This board's sharp ends are only dangerous if it hits you from behind in the ankle.It isn't Aluminum.It's made like most other Turners,with glass wrapped over a foam core.John put on the tape,and with his clean tuck,his feet fit just fine.The shape is basically an inverted wing,IE.downforce with no drag.How much money? It's priceless,being a one-of-a-kind Custom Race Board made by the master craftsman,Bobby Turner.If I owned it,I'd never sell it..

That Turner is a very sexy looking board.
How does it work? Has anyone ridden one of them yet?
I personally believe that it looks a bit too short for racing, mainly because I think I would be too unstable on such a short board. How long is it actually? Wheelbase?
Are there advantages in having a shorter race board if you can handle it at high speed?
The turner also looks a bit dangerous, with all those sharp bits..is it aluminium?
I would also prefer a wider spread of decktape on top!
What's up with the strange shaping on the bottom?
How much money??
these are my opinions and questions for the moment.
I'm really interested as to other peoples' opinions, especially someone who might have ridden one.

I have never heard of this problem but then again I only ride once in blue moon. ( A free set of kryps to the man who can give me the origin of the expression "blue moon") I know the answer so dont try to goat s**t me!!!

Was I drunk when I made that nut tightening post? I better call my sponsor. I should have said that both the wheels on the right side of the board would tend to tighten up, and the wheels on the left would tend to loosen. Righty tighty, lefty loosey. Okay, I got it now.

Kludy,you've got a bearing that's putting down some torque on your(speed ring?)washer and then that nut.Try putting a larger washer on betwixt the washer and the nut.Make sure all is clean,but add teflon lube(use a toothpick)just between those washers.Oh,and maybe ditch the bearing that was on the outside on that wheel..

I haven't had my nuts tighten up since I switched to boxers! Seriosly though, you can use some Loc-Tite on the axle threads to prevent this. This will usually only happen to two of the four wheels (the front right and the back left) because these wheels spin clockwise (as you face them from the outside). The other two have a tendency to loosen up.

TODAY I was at a hill that is a 50mph hill I tried the trucks without the spinning axle and the nut tighten on me .How do you keep the nut from doing that. Yes I had new nuts.I ran 60 mph my 1th run and only 50 mph the 2nd , my wheels was not spinning after the 2nd, somebody please help me. Where I agree that they should be included with the purchase of the wheels, many riders don't bother to use them with the hard plastic hubs. Charles at Exkate told me that the spacers were galvanized and therefore cost a liitle money. If you want them and don't have them, it's a drag, and axles should be longer.
