What's the big deal? I agree with Chaput. Clear definition of a skateboard (4" wheels, 48 long, 12 wide, etc) and that it meet safety specs and that's all there should be. If a guy wants to wear a speedsuit, so be it. It's not like he's drafting a truck. He's just trying to maximize technique and gravity. All racing sports have specialized gear to maximize the intention of the sport. Gymnastics isn't done in jams. Downhill skiing doens't use baggy snow pants. Speedboarding should use speed suits if you want to maximize the sport.

"Not for the faint of heart"... that about sums it up! This is one BIG SCARY HILL!! No kidding...
When I arrived at the hill an hour early to take pics and notes... I thought to myself, "no way am I going to race on this thing!" Steep sections, tight turns, wild chicanes, roughest road allowed by state law, un-forgiving boulder infested terrain... the hills a great sleeping beast! It's awesome!
I do plan on racing in march. Kludy's not kidding when he says you race against the hill... HR

It was great to skate with Kludy, Hardwick, Hamm, Roger J, and Hugh R. today. The road block and radio system meant that we could "safely" hurl ourselves onto the asphalt (multiple times) without fear of being run over in the process. At least both my elbows match. As Gary jokingly put it, I can't skate much longer, I'm running out of leather!" Rick and I seemed to take turns trying some new, interesting "tactics". Rick tried a hairpin that you can barely make going 25mph at 35mph, and I tried braking with one foot and not returning it to the board before diving into the same turn. We do these things so you don't have to. You slowly learn about what you CAN do at Barrett, but more quickly find out what you CAN'T. Everytime I go up the hill and look out at that surface I say "I can't believe we ride that god-awful thing" and everytime we reach the bottom we skate right over to the "chair-lift" and head straight back up to the top. March will be fun.

Stand-up has never been an event in the X-GAMES , For that matter stand-up has allways been a side show for the folks who came to see the luge riders run.JUST A (SHOW ) THATS ALL. I love that and the sport is not that big just fun to do.Some of the luge riders who do stand-up are the grandfathers of this great new sport that is just now getting TV coverage. They are stand-up guys 1th and the luge 2nd. The luge has a lot of history behind it and the stand-up is still a baby. How we grow up is up to you and me and all the world to see. Hay I am a poet and dont know it.

if you made slalom scary,worthy of body armor,sort of like GS on skies with the safe slippery stuff,on your body instead of the ground.maybe it would sell?Then again,does it HAVE to sell,i don't really think so,i'm just suggesting how it might,if you want to run a straight row of cones on flat ground(or any other version),and like doing it great,do it like that for another twenty years. those pics were of the most recent landyachtz "R" prototype. The board is not the new DH, a new DH will be released this spring with some moderate changes. the new race board is based on a design i worked on 3 years ago and raced at seattle redbull downhill last fall. The riding style is much different than traditional.
we'll get you some more info on the board when we have it. there will be a small first run to hit the streets soon! (very small i'm afraid)
you don't like the bridgebolts?????? those were actually u-bolts, a rip off of the orriginal. they seem to work great on boards that you don't stand over the truck baseplate. they don't split my top sheets anyhow. just a prototype, won't be production. i just like keepin' them around.

Seems big air is what they,re after for selling those clothes and soda. Whether its skate, surf, snow, bike, whatever its all heading upwards. They even play Black Flag while everyone launches into the air. Most people don,t realize what a crock big air is, I mean its cool but not that difficult. Its just made to look more appealing than speed with all the excess. I had some kid start chatting to me in yahoo messenger the other day, said he was a pro skater and asked me what tricks I can do. I said I,m mainly concentrating on speed and agressive carving at the moment and he says "I hate you", like he,s judging me totally on the style of skating I,m into. The internets too easy for him, come and say it to my face in real life. And the TVS forums the same, fill of hatred for anyone who,s not flipping a 31", where the f@#k did all this closed mindedness and hate come from?
Anyway, things can only get better, theres more and more longskate companies and products coming out which surely means more events and sponsorship, promotion etc.

X games in fact anyting with the prefix Extreme is a load. I'm sorry but the woman's uneven bars or pole vaulting is as extreme as anything in the exgames. Only problem is that they don't sell clothes or soda. It's not the crashes that will keep an event. It's the age. After a 40 year old won the downhill rollerbladers, they yanked the event. Now they're learning lugers and downhillers don't attract the demographic that sells clothes and soda it will be yanked. The only exception to the demographic theory is the bullshit sport that nobody really does. Skyboarding, please. If you can afford to do it, you're already a finalist. Luge and downhill would only survive if it were done with skaters who also play nintendo on the way down while jumping over flaming pools of oil..... It's a good thing downhill will distance itself from this BS fest.

While I do certainly respect your views and long standing family history... the type of trendy "anarchy" that I am refering to is the american type... where the idea of "no government" has been taken as "no rules"...
I believe that the idea of no rules is dangerous... If there were no rules in regards to vehicle traffic, I fear that there would be many more deaths on our roads.
If there were no rules in regard to personal conduct, it would yeild the same result. The same if there were no rules in all types of organized racing (skateboard too)
While the political view of "no government" (actually... very limited government) does appeal to me... the idea of "no rules" does not.
On this note: I stand corrected on the political side of this issue, but I maintain my posistion on the "rules" side... :) HR

There is a LOOOONG way to go after those two hard right hand turns toward the top. This is one of those hills that makes you wish that you had a different set of wheels at the top than the bottom. Last October's winner Gary Hardwick, used Turbos (I think) and a nice low slide glove approach to the turns without braking. Darryl Freeman used the white Kryptos and was neck and neck at the bottom. If you can make the two critical turns without scrubbing a lot of speed on a FAST wheel, it will pay off in the end. If you go with a slower wheel that really sticks the corners well, there's a chance that you'll get reeled in before the finish line. There's a risk either way. After all, this IS Barrett Junction and anything can happen.

My grandfather realised the british government did'nt want him to fight fascists when they jailed him for doing so in London in 1933. When they let him out he went to fight fascists with the International Brigade in Spain. He fought under the Black Flag for 3 long years. They proved anarchy can and does work providing it remains true to its only principle.....NO LEADERS. The city of Barcelona had anarchist schools, anarchist hospitals,anarchist geriatric care, and yes, plenty of anarchist fighters. Not many yanks though. The only reason they lost was because Franco was testing Hitlers new toys for him (Panzers, ME109s etc). Next time your kids come home from school having been told the war started in 1942 you can tell them it was really 1936. Anarchy is a long family tradition for me. Please think before you call a longstanding political viewpoint a trend......What does this have to do with skating? Well, its one of few sports where you never get anyone telling you what to do......

Dave, I wouldn't worry too much about finding the right wheels to cope with the cat tracks on Barrett. If you choose the right line, those tracks won't bother you at all, no matter what wheel you're riding. Like Kludy said, I'd look for something maybe a little more gripy than the rest, otherwise you might find yourself on the ground at the beginning. Those first two rights are a real bitch if you can't keep your wheels stuck to the ground.

The m-80 will work and the powerpaw will also work on that hill . A soft wheel is the best , maynot be the fastest butt you willnot come off your board. The rain is stopping so time to go put on a roof or three.I still ride the cherry bombs, they are fast but it is a wild ride in the turns , I dont like it but I slide tru almost all turns. The livewire is great but slow depending on what you feel is slow.
