This crappy winter weather in NE Ohio is only good for skatin. I got this little sector9 sunset mini board. It has 65mm wheels on it and its almost like ridin one of my longboards. You can pull some nice carves too! To bad i cant go snowboardin in this damn weather!

h0dad went out on xmas day the way he always has done, to soulcarve a ghost town.
Later that night, he finds a local 10 storey parking structure in complete darkness and yet open..cameras are unable to see him as he takes many runs, at one point tightening down the trucks and buttboarding it.

yesterday was beautiful...the weather was somewhat warm (warm enough to wear a t-shirt...im in VA Beach. well i took the elevator to the top floor of my favorite garage (without security seein' me! yay!) i sat at the top for a moment, put on my wrist guards, and checked out the view (if you're familiar with the Pembroke area, you can see Norfolk from the top of this garage.) before i could even set my board down to bomb the first run, i hear the elevator door open and i hear "where'd he go? maybe he went to the top?" so i turn around the corner and i see an older guy and im guessing his little brother? only word they said was "ready to do this?" without a word we made are way down. i did a few runs with these kids and somewhere between riding the elevator back up, and having the desicision to turn left or right in the garage to different ramps...we eventually lost each other. (i personally think they ran off with there flexdex's and hid because they got there asses smoked...haha no im joking, they were cool kids, slow nonetheless) i took one more run down the garage, and i couldn't help but keep this big ass grin on my face the whole way down, and then looking over to the left and realizing how beautiful the scenery was. it's the first time i've actually 'become one' (as one would say) with everything around me. i just got an amazing sense of this surrealistic urban feel. it felt great. well i went to work, and little to my suprise, it warmed up alot more and the fog was insanely thick. the boulevard was empty on both sides. i took the backway i haven't takin in about a year or so, and to my suprise, they had paved it! i dont know when, i dont know why, but i had about 3 miles of dark, foggy, hilly, slick fresh paved road to skate all the way home. THEN i realized how good i could slide with my cherry's now that the road was a little wet. it was a f#@!in blast. i skated till my legs hurt, until i couldnt breathe without choking, until my clothes were completely saturated with sweat and condensation from the fog. got home, took a bong hit, and watched dogtown for the 19149814141847134 million time...it was great, it was definately the most fun i've had in awhile.

Grr...rain coming for Christmas in NorCal.
so sad. at least the snowboarders will be happy, i guess. Bastards. ;)
I love the empty streets of SF on early Christmas day, pity they'll be all wet. Was hoping to ride the new Ed Economy streetrider thats sitting wrapped under the tree. (what else could come in a 60" narrow box...hope hope)
Maybe I'll just work on my slides in the rain on an old crappy deck...and hope for better weather New Years Day...
Happy Holidays

I figure that this is as good a place as any to sound off a bit because I'm in that mood...
My fiance is making Christmas ornaments for our first Christmas tree while I'm drunk on Irish Coffee and it's inspired the dormant poet in me. Just thought I'd share a thought that popped into my head. One time, back in 93 or 94, this woman who was (all due props to my fiance) beautiful. She said that seeing me skate was like watching a good poet. Not because any tricks I did, mind you, because I was, even as a shortboarder, a soul skater (if it ain't fun, why do it, right?) and cruiser, but, she said, I was at one with my surroundings and flowing oblivious to who was watching me. As a writer or a skater it was probably the best compliment of the sort I ever received. Oh what the hell, I'm half-tipsy and rambling (make that 3/4 or whole)!!! If you've been there, you understand. If you haven't, you should!!! Hope y'all dig my current groove. Keyboards should have breath-tests! That's soul, my brothers and sisters!! If it wasn't freezing rain now, I'd be out cruising the town on my board, but since it is, I decided to babble on here.
G'night!!

the last time i went out skating ,must be a week ago, i was just cruising down to the store. the sprays of water from my wheels easily reached chest height. carving down the small hill, i could feel the board floating on a thin film of water between the asphalt and the wheels. in every carve i could feel the back wheels slip away without control, on the steeper end i had to bomb straight to prevent dangerous standing(i.e. falling) slides-wasn't very much soul in it, but water everywhere, from above, underneath, in my shoes and pants. was a little like surfing- maybe i should wear a neoprene next time. today it's raining again- i dream of skating down an endless 15%-grade hill, making deep carves, i can see it's warm, and, oh yeah, the street is smooth and dry. soul's gone carving.

I was saddened by the lack of soul, too. There's snow on the ground here in Boulder, so likely no boarding for a while. It's not gonna get warm enough to melt much anytime soon, so maybe I'll go snowboard this week. Gotta get my fix somewhere...

samantha, I started 3 boards at the end of last year, and it took me all year long to finish them. (Spare time? WHAT spare time?)My plan is to glue up 3 more right after Christmas and finish them next year (my goal is by end of June). Only one of those three is accounted for thus far. So, if you're in no hurry and would like a beautiful custom hardwood plank to ride, send me an e-mail and we'll talk about it some more. You won't be disappointed with the board, but the wait might be traumatic! -Mark Colden Dallas, TX

the rush!, just got in from a one ride session, yep the northeast is going into a bit of an early dose of the frosty weather ,and it's darker too! Getting out on my local drag strip dh run and zipping a 35 mph first run in the cold and dark ,solo, on totally loose trucks, what a cool ride, in many many ways.

I finally finished the longboard I made for my son, and gave it to him last weekend: 43" x 8.875" noserider surfboard shape, made from purple heart with maple stringers, Randal II 150mm with Bones Hardcore blues, 74mm Flywheels. My boy is 14 years old, and has ridden shortboards off and on for a couple of years now. He has never been very serious about skating, but he's taking to the longboard with gusto. All weekend he rode up and down the street, drawing carves, bombing, noseriding, and standing parallel. I went out with him to cruise the neighborhood twice and was surprized at how quickly and enthusiastically he was getting into the whole experience. I have many reasons to be proud of my son, but right now, us being able to ride together makes fatherhood seriously rock! -Mark Colden Dallas, TX

In south San Jose specifically in Almaden there's some places to ride in the neighborhood. Valley Quail Circle is fun, just to zip around on, if you drive around that area there's hills to ride

I try and get out there when i can, but it's hard with school and all.

Stubbs, Can't remember what I didn't see... but thanks for bringing it to life again just the same. The memory of a certain place and time can be so strong that you can hear the birds again, feel the breeze and smell the trees. Maybe you can hear Gene laughing and bragging as he tried to share the rush he got shooting Hiller.
I try to remember every chance to skate is adding to my collectioin of moments that I'm glad I had. Some stand out and I reflect on them when life gets dull, stressed or down right nasty. Those memories are a refuge. Part of you will always be on that hill in '77.
A toast to the next great moment in time. Everybody go get one.

does anyone remember the old days of tunnel rd in berkeley before there were millions of houses and the rd got all cut up? I'm thinkin maybe 77 or 78. When Vida Blue lived up there at the second or third turn past Charing Cross and we used to have the greatest races with the Alotaflex guys. And remember when Gene Perry Shot Hiller standing up from around the corner. He musta been going 50 or 60 miles an hour through the bottom. Amazing those summers were. There will probably never be a road like that again.
