Double Doubles
On 6/27/2007 Chris Chaput wrote in from United States  (66.74.nnn.nnn)

I prefer double-fronts in Downhill.

In Slalom you need to be able to turn and so a single-front is better, but since you "drive" off the rear a double-rear makes more sense.

In Downhill you don't need to take sharp turns and so a double-front is possible. It also gives you great stability. Since you "feather" the rear when sliding the turns, a single-rear works fine. I put more weight up front in the turns in Downhill to take advantage of the extra traction.

I rarely write or read anything here, so ease up. I am not making the arguemnt for or against six wheels. These boards can help and hurt your racing, but I don't race with six wheelers. Sorry for screaming "only" at you, but the arguement against six wheels doesn't make any sense. I appologize for not getting upset by your childish behavior, because I really don't care a whole lot what is decided about this issue.

Bro vs Pro
On 6/25/2007 Chris Chaput wrote in from United States  (72.134.nnn.nnn)

You can get a whip-like motion from attaching weight to the back of your board. You can also get the stability of four bushings in the back by using a second truck without any wheels on it and attaching parallel tie rods from hanger to hanger. If someone were to bitch about there being three trucks on the board you'd just weld the two baseplates together and remove the axle and voila - two trucks total.

Of course there is very little motivation to try to go faster, to get better traction and control, or to develop new equipment by thinking outside the box when it's going to be (or could be) banned at the drop of a hat and without any reason or explanation.

So who cares if the majority of people want to see the opportunity for advancement? We have big brother making sure that no one leaves the technology of the seventies behind. That's the "bro" thing to do. More bro means less pro. Keep it small. Nice.

childish behavior
On 6/25/2007 Tim Oates wrote in from United States  (75.15.nnn.nnn)

The ONLY reason to ban the six wheeler would be if there were a skateboard weight limit I won't get involved in rehashing the issue, but are you really serious about banning these boards. The ONLY reason why I rode one is because they were not allowed, therefore I got to do something that I shouldn't have. Everyone knows that fealing. As for whether the work or not is up to the rider. I cant assure you that there is some sort of centripetal whip that occurs when the wheels react to a slightly separated pivot oscillation. There are so many ways to play with that difference. The forward truck can be more narrow, or wider. The font can be wedged more or less, and can be higher or lower. Right there, there is about twenty variations. There is no doubt in my mind, that you can gyrate faster accross the flats with two rear trucks. It is my understanding that straps are not allowed in slalom racing. I suppose that will be the next issue, assuming that any one is that stupid. I can't wait to try it. Long live ballet!
Tim

Slim is getting it. Slowly but surely. Profit, hey Exxon and Mobil etc got that figured out, with Enron teaching us all about ripping us all off.

So, I look into my crystal ball and I see one big happy family with Slim, Chaput and Gesmer getting along great, smiling and slapping each other in the back. Slapping not stabbing and Jack just coasting/skating along and promoting skateboarding as usual.

BigZigs Take Top GS Honors
On 6/23/2007 Chris Chaput wrote in from United States  (68.228.nnn.nnn)

Different races, same result.

Pump Station is home to one of the fastest GS courses around and today was no exception. With a wide open top section that set up for some tricky offsets on the right-left chicane, speeds were faster than ever before. We were zig-zagging through the bottom at 32 miles an hour.

The Top 5 on BigZigs

1. Chris Chaput (4 wheels)
2. Brent Kosick
3. Kevin Dunne
4. Richy Carrasco
5. Michael Kaelon

I heard that the Gold and Silver were won on BigZigs in Colorado too!

Colorado Cup GS
1. Jason Mitchell
2. Chris Barker

I predicted good things from these new wheels, and I want to thank all of the races who put their faith in them and stretched the limits of speed and traction farther than ever before.

On 6/22/2007 slim wrote in from United States  (75.61.nnn.nnn)

Brady, why do you see my posts (as you quoted) as somehow "dictating" anything to anyone? I'm just expressing an opinon. If that opinion happens to cause someone else to think, "hey, i though i was the only one to think that," or maybe caused someone to think, "interesting. i never thought about it from that perspective. i think he's full of it, but hey, it's something different..." then fine. But that's pretty much the extent of how much influence i wish my posts to have. yes, i'm comfortable in my opinions and believe they work for me. but that's different from being self-righteous. in other words, i have no desire to make others be like me - you all can do what you want and as long as it doesn't hurt me physically or pollute my air or my water, i'm fine with it.

giving back
On 6/22/2007 slim wrote in from United States  (75.61.nnn.nnn)

it's pretty funny to suggest that i'm the one being emotional or invective when i'm the one being called names and ridiculed (even by Chris in post of 6/16/2007). Bara's "communist" blast may not be too far off the mark, though, even if it was meant as an insult, ha!

for some of you i get the feeling this banter isn't fun or enjoyable. if not, i can't imagine why you partake in it. to me, these websites are just like a bunch of guys sitting around the garage talking bs after skating or whatever. we're not solving the world's problems here and no one should feel any insult should they be exposed to a viewpoint different than their own. how boring would it be if we all thought the same way? i certainly am not trying to convert anyone here. and i have no illusions that my approach is the one and only true way: i don't believe such a thing even exists. all i know is it works for me.

i have no problem with for-profit skateboard manufacturing. as long as it is done as ethically as possible, i'm good with it, and i have no reason to believe Chaput doesn't do so. hell, i buy skateboard products, too, you know. i just want to express one man's opion that "giving back to the sport" is something different than commercial activity designed to move money from one pocket to another. apparently others of you see someone selling you something as something that is giving you something instead of the other way around. I'm puzzled by this since you are clearly giving more for the goods than the goods cost - thus the profit left over - and should be seen as the one doing the most giving in the transaction. but if you don't see it that way, fine with me. why the need to view me as less than human because i have a differing view? what's it to you?

let's go back to more appropriate "vendor" topics, like wheel marketers lobbying for skateboards having a couple more wheels than they've traditionally had.

BTW, I wish Jack the best with his new venture! He's a brilliant example of one who has given back to the sport time and again over all these years.

Uh Slim.....

It's called the "Vendors Corner" for a reason. People design and build product for sale. Persons recognize this product as a need for whatever reason and buy it, thus making the creator a "Vendor."

I don't do my job for free or at my "cost." Getting paid value for your services or products is the good ol American way.

In the world of high finance, skateboard wheel manufacturers, skateboard shop owners, and equipment manufacturers are generally not considered as high net worth individuals. There are few exceptions, Andrea of sole tech, Van Doren of vans, Tony Hawk, Danny Way, Eric Koston, to name a few. Guess what most of these folks have in common; they are not noted for skateboard racing. The streets and the verts are where the money is man. Since you my friend, Slim, is loaded, you should be very supportive of these people. I mean no bargain shopping, no ebay or browsing the online shops for the lowest prices and clearly and definitely no Walmart.
